Once again, Princess is in the hospital....
 

Is this gonna ever end? Last night Princess started having a little bit of labored breathing (keep in mind she has been on Clavamox for 4 days). Luckily, my future brother in laws girlfriend, who is a vet, was in town for the weekend. She listened to Princess and said it would probably be best to take her back to hospital bc something wasnt right. Well, we drove her back down to Charlotte and they took her in immediately and said she was defintely gonna stay the night in the incubator. We the got a call at midnight and the vet said they took more xrays and found a hole in Princess' lung. She said Princess was bouncy and eating, but they needed to get out the air that had escaped her lungs and went to her belly. They call it "tapping" (they use a needle to suck the air out). The doctor said he hoped that this hole will mend itself and, if not, we might have to put a chest tube in her!!!!! They need to do some more tests and they said if worst comes to worst, they might have to give her a trachea wash. What is going on? We saw her this morning and she acts so normal. She was trying to bite off her bootie that has all the iv's in it (they have her on more meds). The only thing is her breathing sounds a LITTLE bad. Thsi poor puppy has been through so much. I want her to live, but I do not want her to suffer through any of this. We told the doctor to do what he needs to do, but if it gets to a point where he thinks she might be suffering to let us know. This is so weird bc she really is acting great and not anything like she was a week ago. I hope that is a good sign. :confused:

i am sooo sorry i was so excited when princess came home i wish there was somthing we could do to help your in our thoughts and prayers dont forget to breath i dont know if this is good advice but would a humidifier help of hurt the situation when my girls get bad colds or alergys we sleep with one i know this is more that a bad cold but ...good luck

Oh my, I am so sorry you and her are both going through this. How long does the vet want to give the hole to mend before he considers a tube? Geez, I hope it heals itself very quickly!!!

I am so sorry to hear this. :( My thoughts and prayers will be that she get better really soon so that you guys wont have to entertain thoughts of how to deal if she doesn't.

I read your first Thread when you got her back home I was certain that was the end of that, but now this :confused:

OMG ! Poor little girl ! I was so sorry to see this thread - I was really hoping she was ok !!! please know my heart goes out to you - I always check in here for these little angels - and this is NOT good to hear .....WISHING you all the best for Princess - she is stronger than you know - I've read about and known some very sick babies that have come thru things that almost looked hopeless ...I'm Praying your Princess is one of them ....BIG HUGS to you and think positive thoughts. Please keep posting updates - many of us are praying for your baby.

I talked to the doctor today and he said she is doing better and they didnt have to "tap" into her chest to get any more air out. This is good. He said he is also not giving her a trachea wash or a chest tube. He switched her antibiotic to some risky one that might affect her growth (great..she is only 2 pds now at 6 months). I really just want this nightmare to end. Seriously, she has spent the past 2 weeks at this hospital. But, the doc is gonna take her out of the incubator tom. morning and if all is well, she will be ready to come home tomorrow night.
Oh..two words of advice......PET INSURANCE. I just applied for it and, of course, got denied until her pneumonia clears. But it is worth it for my little Princess. I would give my right arm for her!! I will let everyone know whats happening tomorrow!!

PS- With her weight at 2 pds and she is 6 months--do you think she will get to at least 4 pounds? Before all this and the medicine that might stunt her growth, the breeder said she would be 4.5-5.5 pds. I just dont want her to be so small where it would cause more problems.

we had someone post on their pup having a tracheal wash and it was not good. Before you make any decisions on that procedure, you might want to do a search on tracheal wash to learn of any dangers. That said, I sure hope you baby gets better, I lost my Max at 4 months from pnuemonia and liver shunt, he was just under a pound. Love, Millie, Benni and Gare-Bear

I'm sorry she is back in the hospital. It is good that she is better and I do hope she continues to improve. It's been a rough ride for both you and her. I can't really answer your question about her weight, but I would certainly do some research on the antibiotic and ask questions of the doctor until you are satisfied you understand how it would affect her. We thought Princess was coming home today, but she cannot. Her glucose level dropped, so the doctor wants to do a bile acid to totally rule out liver shunt. I cannot go visit her bc, I am sure everyone has heard, NC and a lot of the southeast is on a gas shortage. Most gas stations here are already out of gas. We have three cars filled up and one of them is going to be used to hopefully pick her up tomorrow!! Please keep my little Princess in your prayers :(
