Blood in pee My Bindi had some bloody stools a few weeks back. We took her to the vet. She was put on an antibiotic and another med which I think helped harden the stool. They said it was probably from eating something she shouldnt have. :-/ Well now, I just saw a lil puddle by the door. It started out as regular pee but then some bloody tinge to it and then some blood droplets.... Is there any correlation? Has anyone heard of this before? Any suggestions/advice? Thanks.... Very worried... :( |
Not sure if there is a connection but she needs to be checked for a UTI and stones. I hope everything is okay. :( |
on phone w. vet right now :-S |
no appts today. going tomorrow. girl on the phone says she thinks its a UTI. Do you think she's in pain? is it a good idea to wait for my appt tomorrow (all booked today) or should I go in as an "emergency visit?" Emergency visit is double the cost of regular. |
UTIs can be painful and uncomfortable but waiting a day isn't a problem. If it is something else, I wouldn't be too happy about waiting. Personally I would wait unless I could tell that she really wasn't feeling well or couldn't go when she tries. If she were mine, I also wouldn't leave her alone with blood in her urine until she saw the vet though. |

I would not wait until Monday. |
When my 13 year old male had blood in his urine he had bladder stones. He had to have surgery to have them removed. |
Glad you were able to get her in to the vet. Hoefully they gave her medicine to make her all better. |
hey all, thanks everyone so much for ur help. I was able to get in. They called me back and had me come in right away. Shes on rimadyl for pain and a broad spectrum antibiotic... the name starts with a B but i forget... They felt her for stones but found none. If the antibiotic doesnt work then they said i'd have to go for a "workup" which includes a blood culture and an xray (i didnt opt for this choice as my first choice bc it was $$$). The vet said the broad spectrum antibiotic should take care of it as it is her first uti and shes only 1 yr and two months old. I go back in two weeks for recheck. Anything I missed? Anything I should note before i go back on the 21st? Thanks, V |

I'm a bit surprised that they would use rimadyl for a UTI. They may be painful but painful enough for an NSAID? How is she doing? |
You say, they felt her for stones and found none; they aren't ruling this out are they? I mean, with a human they don't always know, and they don't show up on x-rays, if they are in the bladder, at least with the older technology. The reason I mention this, I have read about certain dog foods that were said to inhibit the growth of stones. |

With blood in the urine, if she doesn't get better soon I would definitely go further. If there is any doubt about it clearing up correctly, if she has stones or if the UTI recurs, she should be bile acids test. |
When Chip had the blood in his urine he was treated with an antibiotic first since they did check his urine and found he had a bladder infection. The vet didn't think he had bladder stones because he couldn't feel any. I was told to give Chip the antibiotic and if he wasn't 100% they would have to do xrays. After the 10 days of the antibiotics he was a lot better but not 100% so I took him for the xrays. Chip had multiple bladder stones and had to have surgery. Just because they can't feel the stones doesn't mean they're not there. |
