I had to take Phantom to the vet today He started throwing up on Saturday morning. Otherwise, he seemed okay, but he wasn't eating or drinking much. On Sunday, I made him a scrambled egg. but he threw that up too. He threw up all together about 8 times or so since then (with 4:00 this morning being the last time so far), and yesterday he still wasn't eating or drinking. I thought for sure he had gotten into something and had an intestinal blockage. So, this morning, we went to the vet and had x-rays done. Luckily, the x-rays didn't show any foreign objects, but they showed that he was constipated. The vet seemed to think that's all it was, but I don't know. He gave him Flaggyl (It's an antibiotic for bacterial infections/giardia/ parasites. etc.) and he is supposed to take it 2x a day for a week. Does anyone know of anything else (besides constipation) that could cause this throwing up that perhaps myself or my vet didn't think of? For now, we are just supposed to watch him. The vet said not even to feed him today - unless he goes and takes some food on his own, but he should get his appetite back in a couple of days. Well that's the vet's opinion. So, what do all the YT experts here think?? |
I can't help with the symptoms. Just wanted to let you know that I am praying for a speedy recovery for Phantom. |
It could be so many things from a virus to pancreatitis. If he can't hold down food, I'd be a bit concerned about his pancreas personally. Did he get anything unusual to eat on Friday? Have you been told to give something to keep his sugar up? If his gums are pink and the vet thinks he is fine, you may just want to wait and watch. Do what you have to do to not let him dehydrate. You may want to give PediaLyte. |

Hope he feels better soon. Isn't there a sort of doggie flu that they can get? Maybe that could be what is going on. |

I was just thinking, suppose he ate something like stuffing from a toy -- you wouldn't see that on an x-ray, right? I'm still leaning towards blockage because of his symptoms, but the Dr. couldn't see anything. I looked at the x-ray too, and didn't see anything, but would an x-ray show everything or just metal or plastic? |
Is he pooping normal? |

I think an X-Ray would highlight any foreign bodies in there. Hopefully if it's the doggie flu the rest won't get it. Have they been to any playdates recently. I know in the summer in NY there had been an alert about the doggie flu that was going around and they had said to avoid dog runs, park and the like. So a doggie flu is a possibility. |
awww poor phantom! I hope he feels better soon! :nursing: He has to be to play with his new ball lol;) |
My Bella had that. She started to throw up and was just laying around and was throwing up for a couple of days. I took her in and the vet said that she may just be constipated, but gave her some reglan to help her belly. I got home and used a 1/2 of childrens suppository on her and within a few minutes she pooped and within a couple of hours at the most she was eating and drinking again |
