I know you said the vet said he looked constipated but I didn't know he wasn't going at all. That certainly isn't good. Xrays will not show radiolucent objects. An obstruction is still possible. |
I hope Phantom is feeling better soon. Last year Cali ate the bottom off a latex toy and stopped pooping and threw up. I took her to the er vet and he did an xray and said I just fed her too much and her belly was full. he kept insinuating I was overfeeding her. Even though she hadn't eaten in over 18 hours. He said we could keep her here and watch her and I opted to watch her myself at home. the next morning she pooped out the hughest peice of latex, I still don't know how she passed it. I was so mad at the er doc. She was fine after that. If he doesn't get better, maybe they can do a barium xray where they follow the barium through their system to make sure there is no blockage. I will keep him in my prayers. |
I am surprised your vet didn't give him Laxatone, it's usually given to cats for impacted hairballs. It is like a laxative, to make things go out the other end. Flagyll is very harmful to the digestive tact even in humans. It strips all of the good and bad bacteria out. I have a puppy I just bought that is taking precautionary albon mixed with flagyll , and I'm giving her Danactive to help her tummy keep from being so upset. It is a drinkable yogurt that has 2 different probiotics in it. I'm wondering why constipation would justify antibiotics? Good luck, hope he feels better! Elaine |

awww....poor Phantom....I will keep him in my prayers for a speedy recovery....sure hope he is feeling better and back to normal real soon!!;) |
Why did the vet put him on flagyl if he thinks he is just constipated? I would definitely let him know he hasn't pooped since Friday. I hope he gets better quick! |
My 10 month old Suzi went through this about a month ago. However she also had loose stools, then could not poo for a while. She did not poo until she was feeling better, and after a few days she pooped sooo much, and it took a little while for her stools to become normal again. The biggest worry is dehydration when the pup is vomiting so much. I would not give him anymore to eat , so his stomach can settle. Give him nutrical or kayro syurp , rub on his gums to prevent low blood sugar. The Medicine is suppose to help with the vomiting. Also, it will plug him up.... Make certain he is drinking water . The vet also prescribed an antibiotic for Suzi. She got well within 5 days. How old is this Yorkie? If a puppy, has he had all of his vaccines? Oh, i see that he is about 18months.... I sure hope Phantom is going to feel better soon! |
Aww, I'm just seeing this. I hope and trust Phantom will be feeling better in no time. Times like that are scary, so hang in there. |
canned pumpkin is for diahreha(sp) squash is for constipation. It didn't work for Bella though, nothing worked except the suppository |
Aww, I hope he feels better soon. :( |
Update Well, here'a a bit of an update this morning. Phantom seems to be feeling a little bettter today. Last night, we gave him some chicken broth to keep him drinking. He also ate a few pieces of his food, but not much. Then, we gave him a warm bath, and rubbed his belly (Hey, it works for babies, doesn't it?) He did a little poop last night, but there's still more to come, so we will be watching him closely today. He takes his medicine like a champ. He's such a good boy. Thank you to all those who replied. I will keep you all updated. |
I just wanted to let everyone know that Phantom is doing much better today!  -- He hasn't thrown up anymore, and he was able to poop! Thank you all for your replies and well wishes. It must have worked!! |
I'm pleased that phantom is well:) His symptoms sound identical to how Twinkle is at the moment.....she is at the vets and I'm waiting for the results of her x-ray to make sure she doesnt have an obstruction. I'm hoping Twinkle recovers as swiftly as your little one xxx xxx |
