im so sorry for your loss.. my heart goes out to you... please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers |
I'm so sorry you lost baby Olive. |
I can't go through this post without expressing how thankful I am for the kind and caring words everyone is sharing. It is such a comfort to me. Today, Olive's best friend (a 7.5 month old maltese, Holly) got spayed. Thankfully she made it through with flying colors. (Needless to say, I prayed all morning for her.) After I heard that she was okay, the floodgates opened up, and I cried my eyes out. While I was happy that Holly made it fine, I couldn't help thinking about why my little Olive didn't make it. It was a very painful day for me. We may never know why, but I pray that this pain goes soon. I miss her so much. |
I'm so sorry for the loss of Olive. :( |
So sorry to read about your loss. RIP little Olive. |
I feel your pain. So sorry you lost little Olive. I lost Willie on New Year's Eve about two years ago. Rushed him 50 miles to an Emergency Vet clinic only to have him seizure and die just as we arrived. He had a urinary obstruction. I still remember him every day, but the pain is not as sharp. We have three other Yorkies and they worked very hard to bring me out of it. I hope you can bring yourself to allow another puppy to help ease your heart break...if not now, soon. |
I am so very sorry for your loss. Remember the good times with Olive, it will help to relieve some of the pain. |
Im so sorry for your loss. Reading this is making my heart break |
I am so sorry for your loss. milu was 2.6 lbs when she got spayed. i was very very nervous about it. but i know exactly what you mean about the pressure to get them spayed 'in time'... for all the worried mommies who also need to spay/neuter their little furbabies, i guess all i can say is that it is rare that dogs die from the spay surgery...so, the good outweighs the bad... do you think olive was allergic to anesthesia? you know as in humans, some people also die from anesthesia. do you think that was the case? or is that not the case because the blood work indicated that she would be fine with anesthesia? I am very sorry, I hope you are feeling better. |
 I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers! |
Sorry for your loss I know you're devastated...don't let "non-dog" people make you feel bad or frivolous for mouring your loss...only dog people really understand what our dogs mean to us...you are in my prayers |
We had a dog some years ago that happened to her. She wasnt a small yorkie but a large crossbreed collie. We decided to have her spayed at three yrs old and she also died under the anaesthetic. The vet said she went out like a light. Post mortem showed she had a congenitally small heart for a dog that size and an abnormally small lung. So you little one could ave had something undetectable since birth. I know how you must be feeling because we also was so gutted and felt as if we had taken a lamb to the slaughter. As to us we had taken a healthy dog in and came out with nothing. |

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your sweet baby. :rbyorkie: |
You make the appointment when you are ready, sweetie. And know that she will be fine through it. I don't want to make anyone overly fearful of their babies undergoing anesthesia, just be as prepared as you can and do what you think is right for your own baby. Since Olive's death, I have researched, read, talked to numerous vets about the best safety protocol for we can do to prepare our babies for surgery. And this I want to share with you all: 1) The safest anesthesia to use is Sevoflurane. This is also known as pediatric gas, because they use this for pediatric surgeries for tiny babies undergoing surgery. It is also the safest on the liver. 2) Do the tests before undergoing anesthesia: blood work, bile liver acid test, and an EKG! An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of the heart. A very prominant vet clinic here performs an EKG on the dogs before undergoing surgery. The clinic (though rare), has had anethesia deaths, and it had been because of irregular heart beat or cardiac arrest during anesthesia. So because of this, it is now a mandatory test in their clinic before surgery. The vet told me that there has been instances when they DID detect irregular heartbeats, and have actually postponed the surgery, to wait until further tests can be done and the puppy is bigger/stronger. I know I'm now completely traumatized after what I went through with Olive. But I know that in the future when I bring my next baby to be spayed (even though I'll probably be close to panic-stricken), I have the knowledge to be prepared and minimize the risks. "Tractorqueen", my prayers for safety for little Bella as she goes in tomorrow. Please keep us posted. I'm sure she'll do fine. Thank you all for your loving words and support. I still have days with I bawl my eyes out because I miss little Olive, but it's your posts like this that will help me heal. quote=LilMissy;2530941]Thank you so much for responding to my comment in this thread (and sorry to the OP for barging in). I actually just made an appt yesterday for Missy to be spayed on March 30th. I have felt wrong about this decision since the moment that I made the appt. I rebooked it THREE times trying to decide when would be right. She is 6.5 months old now and weighs 2 lbs 12 ozs. She had to have major leg surgery 6 weeks ago...I just don't feel right about putting her under anaesthetic again, but as people have been saying...the pressure from the vet has been on. "Get her spayed before the first heat"...blah blah blah. I'm sorry but it's not worth losing my baby. I think that I'm going to phone tomorrow and cancel that appt. She can have one heat. Give her some time to heal so that she's nice and strong when she has to go for her spay surgery.[/quote] |
So sorry for your loss. I am so scared to take my Bailey in to get spayed. She will be 1 next month and has not been in heat or I did not know if she was. I know I have to get it done but I just am so fearful. She has some puppy teeth that need to be pulled as well so I know she has to be put under. I know I have to get the nerve to so it soon. |
