| Hello again! I pray the eye ulcer heals well. Thank you for your encouraging words. Does anyone "clean" around the eye? Emma's eye gets very sticky and almost seals itself shut. I want to sterilize water and gently wipe it clean. I did not ask the vet today b/c I thought the eye drops would clear the problem. I am wondering now if anyone has experience with home cooked fresh food for their yorkies? I am looking for recipes which are liver friendly. This whole liver shunt episode has given me pause to think. I now think that the Evo (Innova by Natura) has too much protein (52%) for yorkies even though my 4 year old 9 lb yorkie seems fine and has not had any issues with the food. My daughter has so much trouble with her little yorkie and his kidneys that she now cooks fresh chicken tenders and potatoes then adds raw carrots slices. She adds a vitamin supplement to the mix as well. She gives this to her maltese and shih tzu as well. But, for the maltese and shih tzu, she needed to increase the amount of food they eat so they would not lose weight. She decided to make the switch after the dog food scare last year. Please note that she has a holistic vet and the dogs are doing well. Has anyone read The Whole Pet Diet by Andi Brown? I am wondering about his diet for pets. He does add some garlic! If anyone is or has a holistic vet and/or home cooks their meals for their yorkies with good results, I would love to hear from you. Little Emma is now 4lbs but should be 6lbs. My vet cautions me about the proper nutrients. He is not a holistic vet and feels more comfortable with foods that are AAFCO certified. After the food scare last year, I am not necessarily convinced. Evo was not on the recall list. Thank you so much for responding to my posts. DAB |

![]() Ellie's recipe meets AAFCO guidelines and I would not use garlic or just any supplement found at the pet store.

| Hi DAB, So sorry to read about the kidney issues your daughter's yorkie is dealing with...Potatoes are high in potassium and not recommended for dogs with kidney issues. But if she's going to use them, there is supposed to be a way to reduce the potassium in them by letting the potatoes soak in water overnight, pouring out the water and cooking them in new fresh water. I would probably avoid potatoes though in this case.
