Your advice is very much appreciated!! I really makes me feel better about my decision to know that it is what so many others with furbabies that they love so much would do the same.

I can't wait to have all of this behind us and Bucky healed up and back to himself. Thanks again!

Your poor Bucky. You have been given great advise. I also would
have the eye taken out, it's not serving any purpose at this point
and can, eventually become infected, why take the chance.
I want you to know that I am sending you prayer's for a safe
surgery.

Update!!

We were at this vet this morning at 8 am for the surgery, they said everything went fine with the surgery, now we just have to wait to see how quickly he will wake up. He is still asleep, but I can go see again him at lunch time. He should be able to come home tonight, depending on how quickly he comes out of the anesthesia.

I will keep you all posted. Thanks you guys again for all of you support and encouragement!!

Thnk God! I'm so glad to hear he's done with the surgery. You've both been on my mind. I wish him a peacefull rest and I know he'll be good as new very soon. :D

Bless his little heart, I am so happy for you that all went well.
Dog's are amazing in every way. He probably won't be any different
at all. I know with all the love you will be giving him he will be
back to his old self in no time.

Admin hope this is ok to say if not, I hope you understand that it is in the spirt of helping a dog in need.

I suggest you go chat with the gang at the yahoo group called blind dogs.
If you need the link PM me.
They will have a vast amount of understanding and help as they deal with blind and visually impaired dogs all the time.

Glad it is over. Hope you are both feeling better. Keep us updated on how he's doing. It was interesting because my horse still "blinked" his eye even tho' it was sewn shut. It would twitch along with the other eye. It made it almost impossible to detect that his eye was gone.

Update!

We got home last night and he was still pretty sleepy. Sorry I didn't update you guys last night! I wasn't on the computer much. He just wanted to curl up in my lap so I let him sleep. Vet said no food last night and just a little water if he wanted, but like I said he was still out of it.

When he got up this morning he felt much better. He is a little irritated with the cone on his head. He went outside for his walk, ate a little dry food and waited for me to make him some scrambled eggs. He got his belly full and curled up with his new blankie and he has been resting most of the morning.
I think he is telling me now that it is time to go for another walk. I better get going.

So all is well and we have a great start at recovery. Thank you all for your thoughts and concern!

Bucky here, I can only be on 4 a minute den I gots to go take anoder nap. I juzt wanted to fank you berry much for helping my mommy get frew dis. She was having a weally hard time. I told her dat everything was going to be fine, but you know how mommies worry.

I was kinda scard too, but it didn't take berry long and I sleept through the parts I thought I thot would be scarry. It was not as bad as I thought and I feel okay. I only have one complant, the dogtor didn't listen to my request. I heard him tell my mommy dat he was going to shave around my eye so I told him dat he better not SHAVE OFF MY MOUSTACHE!!! I has been grow'n dis thing for months and it is long. Well first thing I noticed when I woke up is dat the Dogtor didn't listed to me!! :eek: I am missin a big ole' chunk outta it!

Mommy will post pictures later IF I let her.

But other den dat I am ok.. Fanks again to all of my furry friend and de human ones too!

Bucky..is your Dr a skinboy? If so, take from my Mum...they have hearing problems. It would have been nice if the skinDr listened to your Mum but...psst testicles....= trouble. Your hair will grow back...you are the dude..we're all pullin' for ya' man!

Anyway, I knew that the cloudiness in his eye meant that he was blind, but he had no sign of infection and he was acting perfectly normal.

It did not look very “cute”, but he is my baby no matter what imperfection he has. So I thought “Ok, so he is blind in one eye, but he is still the same old Bucky personality wise. I just have to keep watch over him because if he gets too excited he runs into stuff on that side.”

Well, the first of last week I noticed this membrane looking thing in the inside, bottom corner of his eye (I later found out that dogs have a third eyelid, but I will get to that in a minute). As the days progressed it started to cover his eye more and more. Now you cannot see his cloudy little eyeball at all, just the membrane. He is still acting fine and it is not bothering him at all and there are NO signs of infection.

So, yesterday I took him to a vet that specializes in small animals. The vet said that the eye has been damaged so badly that it is dead. The eyeball is shrinking and will continue to and the third eyelid is what I am seeing that is covering it. He said that I have two options:

Option one is to leave it like it is and keep an eye on him to make sure that is does not get infected. Any dirt blowing in the air or hair or particles of anything can get in there. If it does than they will have to remove the eye when his immune system is poor because of the infection. And sew it closed when it is removed.

Option two is to remove it now and saw it shut. My fear with this is that they have to put him under. What if he doesn’t wake up?? He is scheduled to go in on Tuesday to have it done. That way I can keep an eye on him while I am home for the holiday.

Just wanted to let you know that we had to have one of little Yorkie's eye removed when she scratched it on low hanging limb and it got infected. The vet assured us that just having one eye would not slow her up at all, and she was correct. Coco just has one eye, and with her hair growing the way it does on her face, you really can't tell. It didn't change her personality at all, and she is still the most gentle, loving little girl.

I have to admit, that if this were me, I probably would want to remove it now and close it up, as I am so fearful of infections and compromised immune systems.

Ahhhh, Bucky, what a sweet update! We are really sorry about your moustache but it will grow back good as new. We know you are still a handsome little man!
