I thought Buddy broke his leg OMG this am the rain and wind was so bad. I put his raincoat on and had an unmbrella in one had and his leash in the other and opened the storm door to go out and he dashed out at the same time the storm door was closed by the wind leaving his right leg in the door. He screamed so bad and started biting my coat with anger. I was so scared. Once I was able to open the door he calmed down and let me check his leg. Holy cow I'm sure it was sore. He walked ok on it to potty and I carried him back home. He's never been injured before. What do I look for? If he's walking on it can I assume it's not broken? I feel so bad. That darn door slammed with such force I only pray he's ok tonight when I get home. Poor Buddy. I laugh now at how he reacted being angry at me and getting aggresive growling and biting my coat. I know what it feels like to get your finger caught in the door so I can just imagine his pain when it happened. Just say a little prayer for him that it's only sore and not broken. |
Aww, poor buddy :( I have no idea, but would *think* that if he was walking on it OK, that it's not broken, but probably bruised. Bless his little heart (and leg) I hope when you return home tonight, he's jumping up giving Yorkie kisses like normal. |
I think I'd have the vet look at it because dogs do sometimes hide pain and walking on it doesn't mean that there isn't a problem. Maybe iit isn't borken but did anything get damaged or does he need pain meds... I hope he is okay.:( |

Ellie, when he calmed down I checked his leg and pad and I didn't feel anything different. Nothing seemed out of place if that's what you mean. It is a miracel if it is not broken that door slammed with such force on him. He was walking. I wish I were closer to go home at lunch time. It's like a hurricane here this morning. I can't wait until 5:00 to go home and check. ER is right down the street from us if necessary. I know, if anything, it going to be sore. |

We don't want to run to the vet for everything but if a door slammed that hard on a small child's leg, seeing a doctor would probably be best. If it isn't bothering him when you touch it and he isn't limping or holding that leg funny, maybe he is just fine. |
Carol.. My heart goes out to you and Buddy. I sure hope all is well when you get in tonight. I will say prayers for both of you. Hugs to you and Buddy. I will be thinking about you both. Please pat him on his head for me. Buddy kisses will be waiting at your door. |
Poor Buddy. I would think it will just be sore. If it was broken I think he would not want to walk on it. |
Aww carol sorry to hear that. Hopefully it's ok. I can so see Buddy turning and getting mad like see it's your fault. |

Thanks Mary I appriciate that. Of course Bud will get that pat. |

Being a larger Yorkie and being such a solid build I am hoping his bones are solid as well. |

Everything happened so fast but when I think about his reaction I just gotta laugh. He was really angry with me, growling, showing his teeth and snapping at my coat. Poor Bud didn't know what hit him. I think that's the first time I ever heard him scream. I feel so bad even tho I'm laughing at his reaction. Bad me! |
Oh poor Buddy....he bit ya cause he couldn't yell a bad word. I hope he's okay...you could always call the vet and asked if you can give him an over the counter pain medicine. |

Thanks for that thought Deb. I am going to call him now just incase he's uncomfortable when I get home and as long as nothing else occur's during the day. Thanks |
I hope is ok , and nothing is fractured. Poor boy, that sounded painful even when you described what happened. if I were in the same situation, i would take suzi to the vet, they probably would do an exray to be on the safe side. bescase if their is even a small hairline fracture it needs to be splinted in place so it can heal propperly. I have heard horror stories of animals getting hurt, and then the bone does not heal back right, and the animal is lame for life. Guess I watch too much animal cops  Anyhow, the dooor slammed so hard on him and even though he is a bigger Yorkie , He still could have internal damage in his leg. |
I spoke with the vet and he said since he was not limping check it again tonight and make sure he's still not limping. If so bring him in which I will do immediately. It all happend so fast. I can give him a baby asprin if I think he's uncomfortable. He also said never give "Tylenol" just thought I would mention that. I don't use that anyhow, does nothing for me. Wish I could call home and ask him how's he doing? |
Poor Buddy...I think he needs a couple of weeks vacation in Fl....I'll sned you my address...:p |

I'm so sorry, Carol, what a lousy way to start the day for you and Buddy. Those doors in the wind are scary and dangerous, the way they slam so quickly.....it's happened here before too, thankfully no legs in the way! I'll just about bet he is okay, especially since he recovered so quickly. I'll be thinking of you all today and hoping everything is fine when you get home. Sometimes, I think it would be so cool if they could talk....other times, I'm kind of glad they can't - no telling what they may say :p Maybe a webcam is what you need, you could at least check in on him that way?:) |
Oh, Carol, I can imagine just how scared you must have been when that happened. I'm betting he won't have any problems at all. If it would have done anything, I would think it would be evident immediately. That's what I'm hoping for anyway. Take care. Hugs to Buddy. |
oh poor buddy.. i hope he will be ok. im sure he will be carol.. he is strong like bull..please keep us posted.. i will say a prayer for little buddy boy. these dam winds here in ny are soooo bad.. give hugs and kisses to buddy when u get home from me and lexi. |

I do know it wasn't thank you. Webcams are amazing I know. If I had one I would never get any work done in this office. Between YT and the webcam there would be no time to work.;) |

That was my first thought. He would have shown signs immediately. I sure hope we're both right. Thanks for caring. |

The winds weren't bad at 6 so when I went back out at 8 I never expected the darn door to come back at us. I was rushing as usual. No matter how much I work with him NOT to go threw the door before me he does anyhow when I'm not paying attention. Thanks Gina, hugs and kisses he will get for sure when I get home. The winds are sooooooooooo bad. My office sits on the Hudson River and it looks like a hurricane out there. |
Ouch Poor thing. It probably hurt you more...I'm sure he's o.k. I did it last week to my nieces little pup. One minute he's in the kitchen I go outside to give the older dog a treat and shut her lb body in between the door and the wall. I truly thought she was in the kitchen..little girl is fast!!! Anyways she yelled SO loud I thought I'd pass out. This puppy is my niece Summer's whole world. (she battling Leukemia AND THIS PUP IS THE BEST MEDICINE) :( Thank god she was fine, but I thought with a cry that loud something has to be broken. I feel for you both. I'm glad in that Aiden is a larger Yorkie, I'm intimidated by the wee ones:eek: |

Hopefully the scream and reaction was just that, reaction. I am glad your niece's pup was ok after your incident. I will keep your neice in my prayer's for a recovery. Love the name Summer, so pretty. Yes, dogs have healing power's. I am sure he brings her much comfort and gives her added strength to get well. Hugs, |

That's so nice of you. Can I come too? |
awww poor Buddy! His reaction was that of an animal just stunned and shocked by pain... like a fight or flight reaction and most animal chose to fight. I'm sure he was not mad at you, just first instinct to attack the first thing near him when he is such pain. I am glad to hear he seemed ok though! Poor little guy! Now... are YOU ok? sometimes i swear it takes us down more than it takes them down! They are recovered, eating and playing while our hearts are still pounding in our chests like crazy! haha My fingers are crossed that you come home to a happy, non-limping pup! |
That must have been so scary! We had an instance with Chip one time that scared the crap out of me... cousin was holding Chip and Chip was wiggling and fell out of his hands and dropped on his left back leg right on concrete from probably about 4 1/2 feet off the ground. He couldn't walk at all and was yelping from pain. He would try to stand up, but would fall over. I was certain it was broken, ran upstairs with him in my arms, and by the time I got upstairs... he was fine... |
Awww, Archie, I hope you are Okidoky. If you are walking on the leg, that is a plus. I'm sure it was painful and quite a scare. |
Yowza! Poor Buddy and poor you. Looking forward to your update when you get home tonight. :) |
ooo...sorry Carol we just have only so much room.:rolleyes::rolleyes: Your baby probably was just reacting to the door wack but I'd watch it with him jumping off of furniture for a few days...just to be safe. |
