MY yorkie will not eat after being poisoned with moltrin
 

she was treated for her seizures and tremors..because being poisoned i have methocarbonal? for the tremors now..and i still have to force feed her baby food because she has lost so much weight. any suggestions? will the vet be able to do anything about her weight?

Sorry to hear about your little one. I don't have any experience with this but hopefully someone will come on that may be able to help you.

The vet can put her on IV's to make sure she is getting something.

With severe weight loss, sometimes it can be tough to get an appetite back. Have you tried a premium canned dog food? Maybe Natures Variety, Evangers? You could even feed homecooked for awhile - like mashed potatoes with some fish or chicken (and add calcium). Give Peanut Butter off of your finger - it has protein and has nice fat content; give cheese too - it has nice caloric content - but not too much, as you don't want to constipate.

This isn't the best quality, but to stimulate the tummy - have you tried the little toddler hot dogs in the little glass jars? Even when Marcel was at his worst (tummy wise), I could get him to eat those. But really, mashed potatoes can also really stimulate the appetite too...

Just a suggestion (although I like everything that Wyllie's Mom said) - what about the Nature's Variety Raw Frozen Medallions :confused:

the only thing she has tried on her own was eggplant parm last night. it basically made me tear up. but i wll try some soft food her favorite before was ceasar's. She has not even touched the beef with rice I cooked for her last night.

I really like the idea of mashed potaoes, you can add a little butter and cheddar cheese for flavor :p

Did the vet tell you why they decided to release her?
If she isn't eating and she is coming out of a poisoning, I think she should probably be there?

:( Awww. Well, that makes me think that cheese is stimulating her tummy. Why don't you pick up some grated Parmesan (in the big green can) from the store. It is nice and pungent - so since dogs eat first w/ their nose, it is a great stimulator. Sprinkle it on potatoes or anything that you feed her.

As for the ceasers - you could try it, but I do want to mention that it is a really poor food, nutritionally. I really wouldn't recommend it for her. Of course, if it's all she'll eat right now - I guess it's fine, but I honestly wouldn't feed it at all. There are such better options out there at good pet food stores. :)

If all you have access to is Petco/Petsmart - then I'd recommend Wellness Brand canned. But go slow on introducing new canned - you don't want to cause diarrhea. I'd really mix w/ mashed potatoes at first, given how little she has eaten lately - she could be *very* sensitive...

I will try the grated cheese with the beef and rice. And also I will make some mashed potatos. Will it matter if they are instant ?

I have heard bad things of ceasar' food but it might be my only option as of right now.

When do you think I will need to stop trying at home and require vet help?

She is cute! I would be worried that she isn't eating so I would try to get her to eat something (like now) and if you are not successful, I would call the Vet - as this is serious.

Also is she drinking? I would be forcing Pedialite thru a syringe all the time :(

The vet really shouldn't have let her go without eating...

I know they shouldnt of let her go. But because this vet was interested in how much money I had in my pocket instead of the well being of my dog. You know.

I have been force feeding her baby food about a 1/4 cup a day.. in 1/2tbs 8 times a day.

Ok, so she is getting food in? How about water? I would still be supplmenting with the Pedialite as well. Also does she pee and poop ok and often enough?

the food is getting in she hasnt vomitted since friday. Pee is normal but no poop yet just farts. Pedialite any kind i can use?

I get the 'unflavored' kind of Pedialite.

What about Nutrical - maybe you should be supplementing her with that too :(

She should be snapping out of this by now if she hasn't vomitted since Friday.:confused::(

PediaLyte only comes in one kind, I think.
You can also use PediaSure which is more of a liquid diet.
I think it has protein in it.

they didnt test her kidneys...i thought if she was peeing just fine ...her kidneys are okay? i tried for care credit and i was denied my mom also was

Doesn't Motrin severely damage the kidneys if it isn't reversed soon enough?
If she got a hold of Motrin, she needs blood drawn.

okay well i jsut talked to a pet fund its ALL4PetsWNY.com ...and HOPEFULLY they will be able to help me with her treatment I just have to wait for the phone call and hopefully cutie will be treated soon enough that i will not lose my baby... please keep me in your prayers...this little girl is my life and love...and she is so attached to me as i am to her..

I hope she does not have kidney failure. I have a pet fund might help me they are all4petswny.com I have spoken to the lasy and they will call me with information and hopefully i will be able to get her treated in the next 24 hours...keep us in your prayers and hopefully there was not any damage to the kidneys... im really upset the vet didnt tell us what could possibly happen....instead of being so money driven could have told us....please pray for us that i will recieve that phone call and cutie can be seen

I'm kind of confused - if she was treated at the first vet for motrin, which is kind of similar to Tylenol - did they NOT test her LIVER??? What exactly did the 1st vet do?

"Treatment of NSAID toxicosis consists of early decontamination, protection of the GI tract and kidneys, and supportive care. Vomiting should be induced in recent exposures, followed by administration of activated charcoal with a cathartic. Activated charcoal can be repeated in 6-8 hr to prevent NSAID reabsorption from enterohepatic recirculation. Use of H2-receptor antagonists (ranitidine, famotidine, cimetidine) may not prevent GI ulcers but can be useful in treating them. Omeprazole, which is a proton pump inhibitor used for inhibiting gastric acid secretions, can be used instead of an H2-blocker at 0.5-1.0 mg/kg, PO, sid, in dogs. Sucralfate (dog: 0.5-1 g, PO, bid-tid; cat: 0.25-0.5 tablet, PO, bid-tid) reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach and forms a paste-like complex that binds to the proteins in ulcers and protects them from further damage. They should have induced vomiting and gave activated charcoal through a tube down her throat if it was caught in time.

Poor little baby. I am so sorry you are going through this. I know mine love mash potatoes but my husband is not that fond of them. Sometimes I just cut them up and boil them in alittle water with salt & pepper and butter and mine are walking on their back legs. Potatoes being a starch is good for settling her little tummy. Personally, I would be careful about the eggplant. I had a schnauzer that nearly died from eating eggplant. He loved the cheese topping and I didn't think it would hurt him and he was deathly sick from it. Good luck with that sweet baby.
