absolutely terrified for Bubba right now--prayers, PLEASE!
 

My three-year-old Yorkie woke me up around 6:30 this morning throwing up. I waited till he was finished, cleaned off his mouth and held him for a while when he started to breathe very funny. Thinking he was upset, I went out and sat on the couch with him just petting him. By 7:30, he still was breathing funny. I took him to go pee and he could hardly go because he could hardly move as he kept trying to breathe. It sounded like the way someone does when they have a stuffed up nose...making the same sound. I picked him up and brought him back inside and looked at his face as he kept making the sounds and you could tell he was struggling. He then started to shake uncontrollably. I am freaking out, my room mate comes out to see me panicking. She takes Bubba and grabs a blanket and wraps him up in it trying to soothe him and I get on the phone with my vet.
He is now at the vet for the day. They are doing surgeries but will examine him when done...they just wanted him there beforehand because of his breathing and then they can take care of him because I had no clue what to do.
LONGEST DRIVE EVER TO GET TO THE VET. Finally, he got so exhausted from trying to breathe he just fell over on the floor in my car. He was still making the funny noises so I at least knew he was breathing some but I became a leadfoot after he fell...I could not get to the vet fast enough!
Now I am sitting in my family room. I have class but I can't go...the vet is to call me anytime before noon and I can't sit in class with my phone off...I want to talk to the vet as soon as I can so I know he is OK...if I sit in class I will be so distracted by this. It's so odd not having him run around or sitting on my lap...it makes me sad :(
Has anyone ever had this happen to their dog? I heard of reverse breathing and that it is not that serious but it was so terrifying for me to hear him breathe like this and see him struggling...and then shaking...but it must be serious enough if he fell over in my car because he was so tired.
I left him at the vet and he looked over at me with his big brown eyes like "aww mommy, you're leaving me HERE?!" and I started to cry. I love my little doggie and I hate seeing him like this :( Hopefully by tonight, I will be laying in bed with him keeping me warm :)

I have never experienced the problems you are having with Bubba. Both of you are in my thoughts :hug: and prayers :hands:. I'll be watching this thread for an update.

I am so so very sorry - I know you must be terrified - I know I would be.

Oh, I'm so sorry - how scary!! Since your baby vomited, it is possible that he aspirated some of the vomit into his airway. If the aspirate made it into his lungs, the vet will be able to hear the "wheeze" in his lungs. So, that would be one thing. If something else entirely triggered the whole episode, it would be difficult to say. I will be thinking of you and your baby today - and will be watching for an update.

[I had a breathing episode w/ Marcel just last Friday at 2am and ended up at the ER. I believe he inhaled a feather from the bed - I literally thought he was going to die, that's how much his airway was occluded - so I know exactly how you feel. :(]

Awwww honey I'm so sorry Bubba had difficulty breathing.
That must have been terrifying for you. I will keep him in
my thoughts and prayer's today. I hope you hear good news
from the vet soon.

Oh no .. Im so sorry to hear about Bubba. Im praying that you hear some good news from the vet very soon!

I know you are on needles and pins waiting to hear from the vet. If it were me I would have to go down to the vet's office. Hopefully you have heard something by now. So sorry for little Bubba. Please keep us posted.

I don't know about the problem unless he has something stuck in his throat, but whatever it is I'm sure the Vet. will take care of it. I'll send prayers that everything will be ok soon for that little one. Keep us updated if you can.

I called the vet at about 12:30 to see what was going on. He thinks the problem was that as he vomited he might've had a reverse sneezing episode but wants to do some bloodwork on him and will call me back within an hour. He said that he will be sending him home with some allergy medication and perhaps something for vomiting. If something major shows up with the bloodwork then he'll have to stay there at least overnight, but that right now it appears to stem from a reverse sneezing. i am supposed to hear back within an hour. I will update later tonight when I get off work on whether or not he is sitting at my feet :)

So, if he reversed sneezed as he vomited, does he think he may have inhaled some of the vomit? Did the vet say he is now breathing better?

And my fingers are crossed too!! I just got on the comp and saw your post!! I'm so sorry you were so scared by all this, anyone would be when something unexpected happens to our furbabies!! hmmm mine reverse sneeze alot after vomitting but it does not last this long - make sure he checks cpli and tli for pancreas with blood work to make sure vomitting was not from pancreatitis. Also make sure he checks heart real well. Was it a honking sound? that is collapsed trachea -- go to you tube and type in reverse sneeze and type in collapsed trachea and see which it was. Hopefully it is just back up from vomitting but the shaking part scares me - was it like a seizure type shaking or scared shaking? So sorry you are going through this :(
