Emme is throwing up... Emme is 12 weeks old today and is about 1.9 lbs and she has been throwing up since 1:30 am this morning. Her throw up has a smell to it but so I don't know if I should wait it out or take her to the vet??? Should I try to give her something?? |
I just checked her gums and they are now white...do I give the nutri-cal now even though she just threw up again??? |

make sure you give her plenty of water even if she tosses it back - they can dehydrate very quickly at that size good luck ! Edited cause I saw your post when I posted - YES Go to the vet if her gums are white - |
I just wanted to say again - get some water in her even if you have to do it with a syringe...if you don't have one - get one from the vet for future use - they'll give you one in case you ever need to do this again |
Nutri-Cal is working, her gums have pink in them again. She is actually looking around now instead of laying down. I have left a message with the vet's office cause sometimes they get there before the doors open and hopefully they will call me back if not I will be there at 8. She just got down and went to the water bowl on her own. |

Ok, we just came back from the vet. She was given some med for her vomiting and diarrhea (2 shots) and she was give an antibiotic. He could not tell what exactly was wrong with her except her tummy was tender but that could be from the vomiting, but her stool looked fine so if she is not better later today then I bring her back and we draw blood. She actually ate some science diet puppy food at the vets office and seems to be felling a little better. She is walking around so that is a good sign. Earlier she would not even move. I am soooooo tired right now but at least baby seems to be doing fine for the moment. Her gums have color back in them now too. |
poor baby girl. hope he is on the mend! |
Emme is doing better today, she did not want to eat to much yesterday, but she ate enough to keep food in her. This morning she still has diarrhea but so far no vomiting. She will not eat the science diet food anymore and she won't ear her Wellness food either. I did have a can of mighty dog food that I opened and she ate some of it. I have brought her to work with me so I could keep an eye on her, so on our way home I will swing by the pet store and see if they have Wellness canned food. I don't like the idea of changing her food around especially seeing that she does not feel well but I have to have something that she will eat. I think there is something going around....I have heard of several people that have dogs that are doing the same thing. |

I don't know if I'd feed her another food until her poo firms up/tummy settles. I think instead I'd grab some canned/sliced or fresh potatoes (and canned pumpkin) and give her some mashed potatoes with a bit of butter - potatoes can help settle the tummy, give her instant energy, and are easy to digest. Maybe hold off on the dog food until she settles a bit. |

I guess without blood work, I'm a *little concerned* with recommending too much protein, but - the toddler food that worked for Marcel when his tummy was bad were those little Mini Hot Dogs (for toddlers) in the glass jars (by the baby food) - I'd mush them up and he LOVED them, even if he wasn't feeling well. So, that may be something to try too. Babyfood is worth a try - though I know my guys never were too fond of it, but every dog is different. :) |

Do you recommend any test that I should have him try??? She was 1.9 lbs yesterday and 12 weeks old. She has always ate good and this is the first problem that I have had with her. The vet did say that if she was not showing more signs of improvement then he would do blood work but I don't know what he will be looking for. Thanks so much!! |

Oh - and - nothing wrong w/ giving that NutriCal every few hours either right now. :) |
He gave us some Albon, and he said that she did not show signs of coccidia but he was going to try it and see if it helps. She did like cheerios but I haven't tried giving her any of those since she has been sick. I did try a treat that she loves and she did not want it at all. You know they are sick if they turn down something they love. I will keep trying to get food down her and I give nutri-cal every 2 hours unless her gums start going white then I give her some more then and shove some food in her. Hopefully something will start to work and soon. Thanks for you help!! |

Emme was not doing well today at all. I talked to the vet this morning and we was going to wait until tomorrow to bring her in....but things changed. She would no longer eat the baby food that was put in her mouth, she would spit it back out. The vet said to wait a little longer and then if she was not better go to the emergency vet. Well I DID NOT WAIT...I went to the vet that I used for Teddy. After running numerous tests....she has PARVO!! We do not know what her chances are right now. The vet did say that she had already been started on the same meds for Parvo treatment from the first vet so that was good for her. She has already lost 3 ounces since Tuesday and will lose more. The gave her fluid injections under the skin, a shot for vomiting and a stronger antibiotic. She is home with me and she will go back to the vet in the morning and spend the day on Iv's and I will pick her up at the end of the day and take over the evening shift. Please keep her in your prayers...I CAN'T loose another Yorkie |
Oh no!! Oh I am so sick to hear this! Poor Emme and poor you too!! I pray that she can recover from this! I know it's not the same as being right there with you, but know that you and Emme are absolutely in my prayers and consent thoughts tonight. Please update when you can, but I know your first need will be to look after Emme. |

 ... oh no the poor Baby .... I hope she will be alright .... please send an Update ..... |
I hope you both were able to get some rest last night. I was up and down all night and every time I said prayers for your little girl. |
Emme is at the vet right now she will spend the day there and I will pick her up later. She will be put on IV (if they can get it in her) and then give fluid pockets when I pick her up to get her through the night. She did fine last night, mainly resting but she did walk to her water bowl twice so that is good. I will know more later today when the vet checks her out and gives me an update. Thanks for all of the prayers and thoughts....she definitely needs them. I will update again later today. |
Poor little Emme! I hope she can get beat this! Tons of hugs and kisses coming her way! |
Friday's Update 1 Attachment(s) I just picked Emme up from her day at the vet and she looks 200x better than what she did when I dropped her off this morning. Let me just put it this way, she was nothing but a limp noodle this morning and I honestly thought that I would get the dreaded call today. They told me to check in after 2 and that was the longest time. When I called at 2 they told me she was still hanging in there. I was supposed to pick her up at 5:30 and I got there at 5:15. When they brought her out to me she was alert and looking. I took her in my arms and she gave me kisses like you had never seen before. We all were crying!!! No...we are still not out of the woods yet but if she continues to do well like she did today and not fall back to where she was this morning I think by Monday we will have a better chance. Your prayers are working and for that I thank you and love everyone of you!!! Here is a picture of her after we got home when she went to get a drink of water. She has both of her front legs shaved for the IV that they have to give her but she is looking GREAT!! |
Oh, this is good news!! She looks so cute. I'm glad she is doing better. I will continue to pray for her recovery. :) |
Poor baby I hope she is feeling better |
How is Emme doing today? I've thought about her all weekend. I hope you both were able to have some nice quiet time healing and resting. Please give an update when you can. :) |
I am very sorry your baby has Parvo. I read your whole thread and was hoping it was not a serious illness. I am now concerned and worried. How is Emme doing ? Did the vet inform you that your going to have to disinfect your house and use bleach? Bleach is what is reccomended to kill the Parvo virus. |
Emme is much better, they do not believe that it was Parvo after her blood work came back. They think that she had a bacterial infection in the digestive track but they still treated her for parvo because the treatment would still have been the same. After the first day of the IV she was alert and running around looking for food. The second day she did 1/2 day of treatment with IV and antibiotics and was released. She is back to eating and drinking on her own now and is playing. Friday morning I took in what looked like a rag doll that would not move and Friday evening I had a dog with a I'm feeling better attitude and then Saturday, my little girl was feisty as ever. I have been bleaching everything anyway and I do have a product that is supposed to kill the parvo virus on carpets and furniture that I have tried. It also kills the HIV virus and it is used in vet's offices and hospitals. My sister was able to get me some to use around the house. Thank you everyone for your kindness and your concerns during this time. Your prayers were heard and Emme is getting back to normal. |
