Just checking in to see how little Avie is doing today? Sure hope she is feeling better!:) |
Just checking to see how little Avery is feeling today. I hope she's back to her normal self. :hands: |
Update: The vet's office called today and i talked with the vet.. her blood test results were in! (i was so scared because i didn't know why he needed to speak with me unless something showed up on the test!!:confused:) anyway.. he thinks Avie has an underactive thyroid!!! :( he said he wants to check her again (im wanting to know what other tests i should have done, i want to get her retested.. just to make sure the levels weren't low due to the fact she was sick or if she was stressed from feeling sick/not eating anything, etc. ?) he said she would just have to be put on medication/pills to regulate it! :( my poor baby!! :( does anyone have any info on this or experience with their baby and thyroid issues?? also.. the vet put her on antibiotics-(i am going to call him back to ask) BUT he put her on baytril.. (which i was kinda ify about, after reading the mixed reviews on here!?) should i not give this to her anymore.. since it doesn't look like she had an infection? i have only given her half the dose for one day, so far.. THANK YOU!! please keep my baby girl in your thoughts and prayers!!!!! :heart to |
Hugs from zoeybear and Baby Chloe. I hope her results were just off cause she was feeling sick. Avery is just the cutest thing. I hate to hear she is feeling low. |
Aw bless her little heart. Bumping this for you so someone can answer your questions too! |
No but I'm glad it's treatable. My daughter's parakeet had an underactive thyroid. I thought the vet was nut's when he told us. The bird lived for 10yrs on meds. Long time for a parakeet I think. I'm sure all will be just fine. |

Thanks for sharing your daughter's story.. that is good to hear! i know it is treatable.. but it's still scary-especially not knowing for sure!? we are going to take her back to the vet and get some more info i hope! :animal-pa |
A Couple Questions....... We are feeding NV canned & kibble at the moment.. we were planning on starting them on the RAW medallions within the next week or so.. I have read that certain veggies aren't ideal for thyroid problems :questione.. ? BROCOLLI was one of the major ones.. and i KNOW this is included in the NV foods! :icon5: Does anyone know anything about this? OR anything to do with the feeding for thyroid problems? Also.. she doesn't seem to have really any of the symptoms for an underactive thyroid? i know they aren't ALWAYS present.. but just makes me think? :icon5: What would you recommend i have done with the vet? another blood test? (a certain kind?) any specific questions i should ask? any do's or dont's? * I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ANY INFO. FROM PEOPLE WHO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS.. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!! * :love-hug3 |

(they took some xrays of her head.. NO concussion(swelling), as of then-NO fracture, etc. soo that was good news! she had a fever, so he took some blood(had it sent out) and also put her on some antibiotics(since she had a temp) she started to act a little better late sunday evening.. but still was NOT back to normal! :( yesterday, she was better than the day before.. but could still see she wasn't completely herself..) i talked with the vet today (posted an update on this thread..) but the vet seems to think she may have an underactive thyroid? if this is the case, it is manageable.. Thank God!! BUT.. i just hate to hear anything could be wrong!! :( i'm still very worried and am VERY anxious.. i HATE feeling like this!! :thumbdown PLEASE keep sayin' those prayers for her, i appreciate it so much!! thanks for thinkin of us & the girlies send hugs right back to ya, chick! :2hearts2: |
I am so sorry about your sweet little Avie. I am hoping that the vet can you guys all taken care of and better. Sorry I cannot answer any of your questions-never have had any experience with thyroid issues. |
I don't know how I missed this but my prayers will be with Avie. I hope she is OK. |
Just wanted to say hope Avie is feeling better, please keep us updated. Prayers, as well as hugs and kisses coming your way. Continue to be there for Avie, you're doing such a good job!!:hearts-en::ittykiss::nursing: |
Im sure she will be fine poor little baby |
Maybe you should start a new thread asking specifically about her cond. That way you might get more answers. I have no experience with this, so I'm no help, but please know you and Avery are in my prayers. I hope she will bounce back good as new. |

Hope she is feeling better. My pom was treated for an underactive thyroid but then she was retested because the medicine wasn't working and she was diagnosed with Cushing's disease. But she is 11 years old. Their were no bad side effects from the thyroid medicine. |

I hope you can figure everything out! I would be beyond worried, but you seem to have a great head on your shoulders. As long as you are on top of things you will notice any changes in Avie. And it never hurts to get a second opinion. You guys will be in my thoughts. |

Awww...my Alvin Has Been Sick Before With The Same Exact Syntoms.vet Said That He Had This Virus...he Took Some Meds....and Now Hes Great!! Good Thing You Watched Her Close And Detected It On Time. Im Sure Shell Be Ok..good Luck!! |
Lady was diagnosed with an under active thyroid a couple of years ago. I promise you, it is no big deal to treat. Lady just gets Soloxine twice a day. A four month supply only costs about $13. She goes in twice a year for a thyroid panel and that's it. This is a very minor imbalance that Avie can certainly be treated for. I'm so glad it wasn't anything serious. |
I hope Avie gets to feeling better! |

Lady's main symptom was that she was really tired. She a senior so she sleeps a lot anyway, but she was really tired. Her coat had also thinned, but we thought it was from her allergies. Did your vet do a T4 thyroid panel? It's separate from the regular CBC. Or is that what he will do on Friday? A thyroid panel will tell you definitely whether or not she has a thyroid imbalance. Avery's symptoms don't really sound like hypothyroidism, do they? Vomiting, fever, none of those are associated with thyroid problems, The three classic signs are lethargy, hair loss and weight gain. Here is some information for you: Hypothyroidism: A Case of Hypothyroid Disease in the Dog at ThePetCenter.com Hypothyroidism In Dogs |
Ooooh Meg, so very sad to hear Avie has not been feeling well. I went through something similar in Jan. with Zander, vomiting then the d, some fever. I took him to the vet, he declared it a virus, gave him antibiotic, within a few days he was back to himself, phew! Perhaps Avie had symptoms for a virus, however ... since they did the bloodwork it may have caught the thyroid problem early enough to where she may not be showing symptoms yet  Perhaps the vet can retest her thyroids within a few months? I will join the team praying for her. Best to you & your baby. |
