| Kennel cough -- please help! hello all, i was wondering if someone can please answer a question: i recently purchased a puppy online from a breeder, when i picked the puppy up from the airport he was letting out these cough.. like he had something stuck in his throat, that day i brought him to the vet and they took an xray and told me he had an upper respiratory infection & said it could be kennel cough, my question is how long does this take to clear up? hes been on the antibiotics now for four days. it seems like he is getting better. coughing alot less. but not 100% thank you ! |

| We are on our second dose of antibiotics, its been two weeks. The first which was clavamax was not strong enough now she is on Vibramycin and has almost 98% stopped coughing its been 3 days now. In reading posts here I guess it depends on the meds and the dog. Hope this helps.

| i don't think there is a need. The antibiotics are only to prevent it from becoming pneumonia. It is not to cure the kennel cough which is like the human cold- it just has to run its course. |

| I would say no only because her coughing is not as constant, I have heard that it could take up to a month or two to shake off. My lil one also coughs once or twice now in the morning, before it was all day...

| It does take several weeks to clear. The antibiotics are to help prevent secondary infection. My vet recommends giving pediatric Benelyn to help ease the actual cough. xx Meggie |
