Jerry, Sweet little Krissy is in my prayers. Bless you both. |
Hi...So sorry to hear about Krissy. Just a little encouragement. I just lost my little baby Yorkie 2 weeks ago after 13 yrs. He was always on the heavy side and didn't really lose weight. He was 12-13 lbs! About three months ago he started vomiting bile. To make a long story short, after many tests and x-rays he was found to have an enlarged heart and very large liver. The Vet seemed to think he was probably born with it. The last month he lived his liver started to shut down..... The large heart and liver may prevent her from breathing when eating fast or getting excited. Not as much room for lungs to expand? He never had fainting spells, so please don't worry too much about his heart and liver. Peanut lived a good life and was very happy and kept up with my other yorkies. I pray they find out what's causing the spells and Krissy will be home with you very, very soon. I will keep you in my prayers.:animal-pa |

Oh Jer |
OK here is the latest: The vet said her EKG looked fine so the cardiologist is going to do a sonogram on Wednesday evening. If that doesn't show anything they are going to do the MRI and it that doesn't show anything then they are going to have her wear a heart monitor for a few days to record what happens with her heart when she faints. They are hoping the Sonogram will show if it is a blocked valve cutting off oxygen to the brain. Keep praying for her..... A little while ago, she was eating a piece of food and fainted, as it was the dried chicken breast which is her favorite, so of course she was excited. Them she must have been in the process of swallowing because as she came too she started choking. Boy my finger was way down her throat pushing it down. NO more treats for awhile.:( Krissy is such a little trooper, She just HAS TO be ok...:( |
Oh my gosh!! Poor Krissy! Prayers for you and Krissy. I pray that whatever is going on with her can be fixed... |
I am so sorry to hear about Krissy. She is in our thoughts and prayers. |
Have they heard a heart murmur by chance? If it is a valve you should have an audible murmur. I have an older papillon with mitral valve degeneration. We caught his early and with treatment we have kept the enlargement of the heart that would normally occur in check and therefore he does not have fluid built up as would normally happen with a valve problem gone awry. Because his blood is not properly oxygenated when he gets very excited he will sometimes faint and then comes to right away. Mostly if he wakes up suddenly due to a loud noise or the other dogs barking. If it is a heart valve issue (this will definitely show on a sonogram), they can treat any fluid build up and you might suggest that they start her on enalipril to lower her blood pressure, it has been a wonder drug for my Ace. Since her EKG was OK I doubt they would need to add digoxin in at this point (the other med my Ace is on). Mitral valve degeneration is extremely common in small dogs and they can do well for many years with treatment. Good luck and I will besending positive thoughts your way! |
Keeping you and Krissy in my prayers. |

Her blood pressure was fine and they could not hear a murmur. I would be so happy if it was something surgery could correct but even medication for life is fine with me. |
1 Attachment(s) Well Krissy spent 3 hours with a cardiologist yesterday. They did a sonogram on her heart, stomach, lungs. All are OK. The regular vet said her heart was enlarged but the cardiologist said it was not and looks healthy. Her liver is very slightly enlarged. Krissy is still fainting so the vet is looking into renting a heart monitor that will record the heart rhythm during a fainting episode. If that doesn't work then she will go to another specialist for an MRI. She will be out third dog with over 4000.00 in medical in her life time. She gets to join Rusty and Mandy and hopefully the out come will be as good as theirs! They shaved her side so now she has lost some of her awesome coat. Keep praying!! |
She is just the cutest thing, and who cares about her shaved side. If shaving her totally bald would help I know you would just whip out that shaver as quickly as Annie Oakley with a gun. hehehe!!!! I sure hope whatever her problem is, it can very easily be corrected. Prayers are going her way. |

Wait until you meet her she is so sweet and loving. |
That poor baby. I have never heard of this before. You must be beside yourself. It's really good news that all her tests are coming back normal however it's not getting to the problem. I hope it's nothing like your thinking. I thought it was due to her eating too fast and loosing oxygen but now I see this update and it's totally scary. I hope things work out for Krissy, Jeri. I can't imagine waiting and praying daily and still no answers. Prayer's coming your baby's way. I hope you get answers soon. Hugs, |

Jeri, Keeping both you and Krissy in my prayers. I hope you can find some time to rest. I know your worried and not sleeping well. |
Krissy has not fainted today at all. She went on a walk and was very excited but didn't faint! Maybe it is wishful thinking but she seems to be better  We are still waiting to hear about the heart monitor from the vet. |
I am keeping you and Krissy in my thoughts and prayers! Hugs to you and your babies. Hugs, Mary |
Glad to hear Krissy had a good day yesterday! :D |

I so hope you get positive news from the vet...I know how worried you must be! Good to hear she has had no more fainting episodes.. |
Hoping and praying Krissy is alright. Hoping the fainting spells just go away...never to be seen again. But the not knowing is so over powering. When you say they did an ultrasound, I am assuming it was an echo cardiogram. This would most definitely show a valve problem, if one existed. The monitor is a great tool, to show any heart arrhythmias. Gosh, I feel for you and Krissy...I know how much I hate not knowing what's wrong...or how to avoid it from happening again...we just love our babies so much. |
