How scarry! I'm so glad little Koda is going to be ok. Living in the country have its advantages, but it also has disadvantages. I'm in the country and I am alway worried about bugs, spiders, snakes, lizards (TJ loves to chase lizards). We have to be on our toes constantly with these little guys. Please post pictures of the happy homecoming!:D |
A black Widow Spider! That is really serious stuff. I hope you get them all after the spraying. Koda is one lucky little Yorkie. What a living nightmare you went threw but you did a real good job in helping your little guy get the help he needed. Yayyyy for you Erin. Wishing Koda a real speedy recovery. Keep safe. |
I'm so glad you figured it out...it is so hard no knowing what happened. Good thing you got him in when you did. I know as soon as hubby gets home with that car, you'll be flying out the yard to go get him. Just remember...no speeding!!!;) |
Yes we will definately post pics of the little spideryorkie ;) Hopefully I get the ok for giving him a bath, I wouldn't see why not. He is messy from me dripping the syrup on him the other night, and when he was getting sick. His face was like a crunchball, and he will have that vet smell to him, yuck! Too bad the vet doesn't throw in a nice grooming package upon departure, lol! I am so excited, I can't wait till dh gets home so we can go!! I am going to call 2 diff exterminator companies and ask them abotu a specific insecticide for black widows. I have a feeling that their going to tell me it's something they have to come do, but if they can get it done while were gone I'll pay the extra cost since they have stronger chemicals than is allowed to be sold to the general public. Thanks everyone :) please remember the signs of a spider bite, as the mark it leaves is so tiny it can easily be overlooked and the bite can be fatal to our babies left untreated. |
Erin, my heart droopped when i saw this. I am so glad Koda is better. how scarey! |
Wow!! Scary stuff but so.... happy little Koda is all right. Give yourself a pat on the back for acting fast. Blessings to Koda, you and your family. Oh and a good vet doesn't hurt.:):animal-pa |

Whew! I'm so glad that you found out what happened to little Koda. We have Black Widows like crazy here in Florida, and we also have what they call a Brown Widow. I worry all of the time about them, because Scooter is constantly running through the shrubs and flowers and playing all over the yard. Bless Koda's little heart. I'm so glad that you are planning on doing a massive spray! I could feel your sorrow when you spoke about having to leave little Koda at the vet. I'm so sorry. It want be long now though, before you can bring your precious little one home. I think you need a hug! |
Glad he's doing better, Joey got suddenly sick at about four months of age with non-stop vomiting, and they suspected a spider bite since all other tests came back negative. I'm so glad your little guy is doing better, but have such mixed feelings on pesticides, and their long-term effects on our pet's health. Some suggest just clearing out the area, where spiders might inhabit; we had an orange tree that had small dead branches and leaves around it, and we were told that was a prime spot for spiders to gather. Glad to hear Koda's doing better, and glad you were able to get such fast care for him. |
glad to hear everything is going to be ok!! What a scare... |
oh wow, how scary!!!!!! I'm glad Koda is fine now!!!!!!!!!! |
Whew! I am sooooooo glad Koda is back home!!! Did the vet say all will be okay...no lasting effects, etc? You know, black widows come in all forms...some have the red hour glass, some are just solid black, some have a white dot or square shape, some even have a yellow color. I had to research this awhile back...it was scary to know that there were so many different kinds, but they all pretty much look the same. I was also told that spraying won't kill black widows or brown recluse spiders...UNLESS it gets directly on them. I don't know if this is true or not, but that is what the pest control guy told my mother when they sprayed her office. We live in the deep country too and have many terrible pests.....I know we found a black widow by the pool and we sprayed with some sort of spray that DH had to mix in his pump sprayer. After we sprayed the deck, we did find a HUGE black widow dead, so it must have gotten directly on it?! Last year, my nephew was bitten (from what they thought was a widow) while they were on vacation. He never said anything about hurting, but my sister notice a bump that keep getting worse...then, he couldn't move his arm....then it moved into his neck. They got him to a hospital and had to start iv treatments....it was horrible! Anyway...glad to hear that all is well!!! Give that precious baby big hugs and kissies from us here! |
Oh my gosh! Poor Koda! There are so many darn things out there to worry about. I'm so happy to hear that he is doing well and almost ready to come home. You made me laugh when you said his face was like a crunchball :p:D That was a perfect description of how it can get!! Be careful with the insecticide spray, that can be dangerous too. Have a good weekend with your baby! |
oh gosh, what a nightmare to have had to deal with. Black Widow Spider, biting your tiny Koda. I know it is worse the smaller the animal/person is to have gotten bitten. Poor little one. I am glad he is going to be ok. we have them here too. I have a field right behind our house. So we have to be very careful all the time. I hate spiders, and bugs.... That scare me, and are so nasty looking. Thankfully, this turned out well, and Koda is going to be ok.... No more spider bites  |
Oh my I am just seeing this today..wow..Erin I'm so glad that Koda is OK. Dang I hate spiders and didn't know we had them around here. Thanks for all the info on spotting the marks and symptoms of a bite. :( I\'m so glad that Koda is coming home today!!:D:D:D |
