| Is there a tummy bug going around? Timmy was sick Saturday morning. Throwing up, fever and the shakes. Called the vet as soon as they opened Saturday morning and they told me to bring him in. Thank goodness they are good about getting me in right away all the time. My baby boy had to stay at the vet for about 4 hrs. They put IV's on him, took x-rays just to make sure he didn't swallow anything he wasn't suppose to swallow. After almost 300.00 later...he had a tummy bug. You just can't take any chances with these little guys. My vet gives me options but of course I wanted everything done on him. I just panic when they're sick because of everything I went through with Lilly. Anyway after he got fluids he was back to his normal self. They gave him meds to stop him from throwing up and antibiotic. Now last night Mimi was throwing up. I hope Gabby doesn't catch it. Its like how can you keep them seperate. I'm here at work stressing because I want to be home with her. Thank goodness my kids are home with her so if they see her get sick again they can call me. I've already called the vet to see if he needs to see her or can prescribe the same thing for her that he prescribed for Timmy. I'm also freaking out because I bought them a new case of food (Canidae) and after I fed them the first can from the new case thats when Timmy started to get sick. I know it's probably just a bug and not the food but with everything going on I can't help but to think about other possibilities. |

| Canidae just changed their formulas of their dry foods. I'm not sure about the canned, but you should call them to find out because if they did, it's just like switching foods without making the transition gradually and it can upset their stomachs. Loki had a stomach bug once and it was just like you described. He was fine in about 2 days.

| Thank you! I hope they get better soon too. I hate seeing them sick. I'm calling Canidae, I do know changed their formula but I just didn't think about it. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I probably shouldn't even be replying because I know so little about this, but from what I have read, I was told that they didn't get "bugs" like this and that you should suspect something else instead of a flu like thing. Perhaps it's the food, or even something around the house like an insect bait. Hope someone with more knowledge responds.

| Dogs can get viruses, like colds and stomach bugs, but they can't share them with us. Bacteria can be shared between humans and dogs. You should always be diligent, but if everything else has been ruled out it is definitely possible it's just a virus.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Ok, thanks for sharing that. So, what you are saying is that they can get a virus, but can't give that virus to us, but they can give it to another dog. Do I understand this correctly?

| They can get so called "bugs." You did the right thing by getting your baby in ASAP. There is nothing worse than letting it go on for too long and then treating a really sick baby. Glad they are feeling better!!

| I do think there is something going around. Ivan (our shepherd) was awfully sick for three days last week. |

| Little Man is sick too. He's threw up several times today. I called my vet and she said there is a tummy virus going around. She told me to get some Citmetidine(sp?) and give half to him and no food for the rest of the night, but give little water so he don't get dehydrated. She said if he gets diarrhea and still vomiting in the morning to bring him in. I just feel so helpless, when he looks up at me after he gets sick.

| So Sorry! I'm so sorry to read about all the little furbabies that are sick. Hope they all feel better soon. It's so stressful when the little ones are sick; I get soooo scared when my girl doesn't feel well. I've recently been told that there's a kind of bronchial infection that some dogs have picked up from the dog parks. There's also some type of viral thing they're picking up if they drink from puddles in the park after it rains. I was told that dogs who've been given Revolution haven't become sick, but the others have. Heard this from a fellow (in the park Sunday) who's recently adopted a rescue dog and had to fill things out about taking the dog to parks. I haven't found much info other than that, though. Still, it's enough to make me worry!
