Need some advise - Annika is feeling under the weather and has been throwing up :( It started last night on our last leg heading back home. There was a maintenance problem at the cockpit so there was some delay. We have been in our seat for about 20 minutes and suddenly without warning she barfed :( some white muccus and a bit of red came out . . .luckily I had some napkins but had to ask the FA for additional napkins for clean-up. The rest of the flight she was shivering slightly so I got her out of her bag and held her all the way till we landed :( . . . she seemed fine after that and no problems all night long . .she was her usual self. This morning, she gobbled up all of her food but 15 minutes later threw up everything :( . . .oberving her you would not think her sick as she is still her usual self. She had an appointment at the vet for her annual vaccine and nothing was found, just perfect health  although prior to leaving she threw up again - white some clear water with a few stuff in it - looks like leftover from this morning's meal :( . . .back home everything looks normal AGAIN until 15 minutes ago, she threw up again  . . well I actually gave a very small piece of the joints chew that came in the Yorkie bag I got from the meet . . .so I think that was what came out. I would appreciate if anyone can give advise or perhaps some idea of what food to give her temporarily until she stops vomiting :( I am starting to be concerned at what could be wrong with her :( . . . |
Oh sorry, maybe she just picked up something from the flight and it will pass in a day or two. I'd maybe do the rice and chicken diet for the next couple of days. big hugs and prayers coming your way. Feel better soon Annika. |
Aww poor Annika - she's probably a little stressed from traveling and all the excitement at the meet. I agree... chicken & rice or baby food would be good. Her tummy is probably sore after vomiting (like ours get) so some bland (?)/soft food should help settle it. But if she's still vomiting tomorrow I'd call Vet. Is she drinking ok? If not - try some plain Pedyalite. Hope she feels better Des. :) |

thanks Connie for your great advise :aimeeyork |
I am so sorry Annika is ill. We had so much fun meeting you both, we don't want the trip memory to be marred by a sick little girl. You might want to withhold food for awhile and let her tummy rest - check with your vet about this. When Bubba had an upset tummy we started him on low sodium chicken broth until everything got under control - my holistic vet said this cna be very helpful for even dogs |
If she is throwing up after every meal I would be concerned about pancreatitis or an obstruction. Is she pooping? You could withhold food and then start again with mashed potatoes (no butter or anything) or plain yogurt. |
poor baby !!! I hope she feels better !! Did she eat a new treat or something ? Sometimes stuff just doesn't sit well with their tiny tummies... |
Well I will add to the advice to give her bland chicken, like boiled, shredded and plain white rice. I would wait and give her tummy time to settle though. I see that someone asked if she is going to the potty ok, that's important! She just might be out of sorts from the trip and all the excitement. You could check with the vet and see if they think it's ok to giver a little pepto bismal, but you want to make sure nothing else is going on! I hope she feels better soon!! |
when millie was ill and vomiting the only thing she would eat was scrambled eggs and she always seemed to keep them down i hope shes ok sending healing prayers your way for your little tink hugs janis |
Poor baby. Hopefully it is just a combination of stress and maybe a new treat she wasn't use to. Maybe the veyt can give you something to settle her tummy. |
Oh Des I hope she feels better. poor sweet Annika. Daisy was getting sick yesterday. Thank god she is good so far today. BTW Bre says THANK YOU for the tshirt;)She loves it! |
ooh poor Annika, i hope she feels better soon. I would do the chicken and rice too. When i suspect an upset tummy i have given a little pepto bismol to coat the tummy ! |
chicken and rice diet is a great idea! and alot water to help it past. she'll feel better soon =] |
Sorry to see Annika is a bit under the weather. Perhaps the trip upset her stomach a bit. I would give her a 1/4 tablet (crushed) of pepto bismol to settle the stomach. It won't hurt her. I hope she's feeling better today. |
ahhh poor Annika! I think that's because of too much partying :) I hope she feels better soon! make sure she drinks plenty of water |
thank you all for your wonderful tips on getting her back to her normal self. I did not have chicken so this morning I added the evanger's organic chicken (just a little spoon) mixed with water to her boiled rice . . .so far she has not gotten rid of that till I left for work . . . besides vomiting she is her normal self though so perhaps it is just the travelling. I did give her and Tiger a little of the treats that our special Mom's made for the YT meet-up and they love it :) . .but I better not give anymore until she is fully recovered :) Hopefully I won't come home to a messy Annika  |

I have been feeding Madison boiled rice and ground turkey for a long time. I do mix it with their regular canned food, but whenever I try to cut back the rice mixture, he ends up having tummy problems....so I figure it must help settle his stomach. I make up a bunch of them (I used to use chicken, but the turkey seems to work just as well and is much cheaper) and freeze them in small containers (at the beginning I fed Max Cesar dog food and I saved a lot of those little containers they come in, so that's what I keep them in; just fill, cover with plastic wrap and then I use aluminum foil over them and label them with the date and contents. This amount makes approx. 18 of those containers. I use 1 can low sodium, fat free chicken broth and then add enough water to equal about 3 cups total liquid; 2 cups long grain or medium grain white rice, and 1 tube of the frozen (defrosted) ground turkey. Then just steam it all together and let cool before portioning it out. I always liked to have some chicken/rice or the turkey/rice in the freezer even for Max in case he gets sick. That way, it's right there when I need it and I don't have to go out to get something for them. I hope little Annika will get back to feeling herself real soon! |
Oh baby Annika I hope you are feeling better today and that it was just all the excitement and traveling that got your tummy just a tad upset. Des we got home at 6:30pm yesterday:eek: and thank goodness I took off from work today to catch up on sleep and laundry. Keep us posted on Annika. Loved the meetup and so glad we finally met....hugs. |
:(I am so sorry Annika is feeling just like her Auntie in NY:( It must be stress, give her some baby food or chicken and rice. Cuddle up with her and lots of TLC! Hope she gets well...My poor baby! Maybe it was too much partying:p(JK) Get well sweet Annika |

Hi Seana, thanks for sharing your tips on feeding Madison . . . I think that is just a tad bit too much work for me since I am already going crazy with my schedule . . .I do give my furbabies frozen carrots and peas added to thier organic chicken and kibble :) but today annika just had some plain boiled rice with the organic chicken mixed with a bit of water . . she still gobbled it down so hopefully she won't throw it up :p |

There seems to be a fair amount of dogs throwing up for a day or two - sometimes with loose stools, sometimes not. Two of mine went through it. I just didn't feed them for one day and they were fine. I'm glad Annika is doing better today. :) |
