update on lexi this morning went smooth.... she hated the medicine.. but who doesnt hate medicine right?.... she LOVED the perscription food they gave her.. and she drank plenty of water. i had to leave her for two hours while i went to work before scott got home from work.... i hated leaving her. when i got home, she looks like shes going downhill.... i dont know of shes going to make it. shes just whimpering and breathing hard.. and every once in awhile she spits up. i dont think shes spitting up medicine bc i gave her anti vomiting med. i think shes also vomiting water.... not alot, but enough. so i called the vet again...... they said that they could put fluids in her tomorrow. and they told me to wait and give her more anti vomiting med and not to force her to eat or drink. i just want her to get better... its breaking my heart to watch her go through this |
oh poor sweet girl. I think i missed your original thread.. what is wrong with her? |
Your biggest threat is dehydration due to her size.... I'm sorry Lexi is sick...and I hope you have contacted your breeder. |
She really needs to be on an IV. I dont know why that vet sent her home |
Could you get her into a different vet? A vet that can take her NOW? I do not like the idea of waiting. She needs to have iv fluids , because her condition is very unstable. Her little body needs support. She is too tiny to fight this on her own. :aimeeyork |

I really hope you have another vet you can rush her too because this doesn't sound good at all. She's suffering - you need to do something or you won't have a puppy anymore. you said in your other thread you would do all it takes - well NOW is the time if it isnt already too late I don't want to sound harsh - I want you to save your puppy !! you HAVE to get her to a vet |

And especially if you have to leave her by herself for long periods of time. I'm a pretty calm and easy-going person, but I am going to have to leave this thread now. Please do the right thing and do it NOW. |

I wasn't going to say anything else but you have to make a decision - The vet for treatment - or the vet to end her suffering. I'm so sorry to say that but that's your reality if you don't get her in RIGHT AWAY. She's hurting & you have to take care of her. It may be too late to save her and I'm so sorry to say that :(:(:(....but Parvo is a death sentence without the right medical attention. you can't 'give her medicine' then leave her alone. She needs to be watched right now and under a vets supervision |
Allison: I believe this dog is in a LIFE OR DEATH situation - AN EMERGENCY - and needs to see a vet immediately or SHE MAY DIE. YES THIS IS ME SHOUTING - and yes, I think this puppy may die. You need to find an EMERGENCY VET NOW. PLEASE. When a dog has trouble breathing - there is NO MORE TIME for discussion. She may have aspirated her vomit or worse. |
For what it's worth...PLEASE from me too. |

Tomorrow??!! I'd be looking for a new Vet tomorrow! But your little girl needs a Vet NOW! She is so little, she doesn't have much reserve. She needs supportive care ASAP! |
I told you in an earlier post that i went through this with my lab puppy years ago, the only reason lady made it was that she was hooked up to iv and spent a few days in the animal hospital. Please take your pup in to a hospital... |
Please get her to a vet NOW if you haven't yet. They can go quickly without immediate intervention. |
 I hope that since you're not here posting that you are at the ER vet:hands: |
so.... i took everyones advice...... and drove her 30 mins to the emergency vet. her glucose was low at 31. but theyll be keeping her overnight + all day tomorrow. i think it will be better because shell have a drip with meds the whole time. the only way she will get better is if she FEELS better.. im VERY happy i listened to every one and brought her.. thank you so much for your support and advice. hopefully Lexi will be able to thank you all after she shes better... btw, i was wondering if any one knows about any kind of donation group around baton rouge?? im a college kid, with family that can help pay for bills, (plus i have a job) but im just afraid she wont get better and i will run out of money. also, what do you think my legal rights are against this guy?? do i have any at all??? GOD i hope so |
I hope your little one recovers, and know I would be a worried sick. Here is a link that was posted recently that might help you. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...vet-bills.html. If all else fails, you might consider contacting a rescue group that could find a good home for Lexie. These little ones cost a lot, and sometimes getting a good deal from a bad breeder costs more in the long run. Glad you were able to take her to the vet, and I really hope she she isn't suffering. |
Does the vet take payments? I know I had an emergency this week and the vet let me pay what I could then make payments on the rest. Also see if they have care credit |

that's EXCELLENT to hear - I really hope she pulls thru this.... I did some checking - this site normally helps dogs in crises but they're donations are low :( IMOM.org Helping People Help Pets they aren't taking new applications but you could TRY and see if you can get someone to accept you - The other thing you could do is call your local shelter and see if there's a place you could apply for help - and the last thing I can suggest is SELL STUFF - Craigslist is great for that. But - before you do any of this try to work it out with the vet - if you show good faith maybe they'll let you make payments - as far as that breeder - you'd have to take him to court if you can prove your puppy came to you this sick - and I hope you've called him - he needs to know about the parvo if he doesn't already. I really hope your puppy makes it and good luck. |
Oh Allison I am so happy to see you took Lexi to the vet. I know you already know you did the right thing but... You did the right thing!:) You are dealing with a really tough situation and I know you are probably having to make some really tough decisions. I would think your breeder has the legal responsibility to reimburse you at least the cost of Lexi but I would think they would be obligated to also cover her medical expenses. I am sending positive thoughts to you and little Lexi and hope this vet visit will be the turning point for her recovery. |
I'm glad you took Lexi and I hope she improves throughout today. Unless the breeder voluntarily reimburses you...your only recourse will be through court. Small claims if it's under 1500 and civilly if it's over 1500, which I highly suspect it will be. |
Prayers are being said here in NC for your Lexi....God help little Lexi fight this terrible disease. Prayers and hugs being sent to you Allison...you did the right thing for her. |
I'm really sorry for you and your little Lexi....I hope she gets all the help she needs and gets better soon.......I don't know if any of these will help but it wont hurt to ask them .......I will be wishing you both well....... Pet Financial Aid Organizations |
I'm so glad that you took her to the vet, you more than likely saved her life! Now it's up to the vet and her little body to get better:love: Prayers will continue from all these wonderful YT'ers, and I have witnessed the power of those prayers many times here;) |

Allison - PLEASE keep us updated on how she is ok ?? How did she do thru the night ??? We're all pulling for her !!! |
I am so happy you took her in. Praying she pulls through this and you can look forward to a long relationship. I would borrow from family and make payments to them if at all possible. I know when Cali was so sick when she was a puppy my parents helped me big time. Please let us know how she did last night |
