to be honest with you guys I've never even heard of Pedialyte so I don't even know what that is. I don't know what to do with Mickiey anymore- he still wouldn't eat but he did drink some on his own already, though VERY LITTLE! I did use the syringe and injected water into him yesterday and I used a spoon to feed him but I had to force it because he clearly didn't want to eat. I know that technically I should call the vet but he probably thinks I am crazy because I called so many times already lol. Do you guys think I should still be worried? I mean he did drink already a little on his own and I did get some food into him though very very little. |
have you tried offering something other than his regular food? A little cottage cheese, some plain yogurt, or a little boiled or grilled chicken. I would hand feed a little of the above foods and coax him and praise him for eating. Pedialyte is a children's supplement to avoid dehydration when they are ill. I'd go with a little honey in the water or Karo syrup in the water. Nutri-Cal has a lot of sugar in it, but I don't find it sweet at all -- its pretty yucky really. The honey/syrup may be just what he needs to go for the liquids again. How much does your little guy weigh? |
I think you should still call the vet just to be safe. It is not normal for them not to eat or drink.. My Braxton was sick when I first got him at 8 weeks and I had to feed him can food through a syringe(watered down) until he started eating on his own. my vet advised me to do give him a small amount every 4 hours. Once he started feeling better he started to eat on his own... |
I think you need to get that puppy to the vet!!!!!!! He has gone too long without food. Who cares what your vet thinks about you calling often. We are talking about the life of a puppy. Maybe you need to find another vet. Not eating/drinking is not normal. Did you take his temp? Give him some Nutrical until you can get to a vet. They will probably have to give him fluids as if he is not drinking, he is dehydrated. The longer you wait, the worse it will be for your puppy. |

I went back and read all the other posts you have made since joining YT and I am concerned that there is something going on with your baby. I highly recommend you take him to the vet and get a blood panel done on him. Better safe than sorry. Your puppy is small and he very well could be having some liver issues. What kind of food are you feeding him? I also would recommend you give him some corn syrup and water with a syringe about 3 times a day. When a dogs blood sugar level drops then they loose their appetite. Please keep us posted on how he is doing. |

Yes they are not going to tell you too much over the phone..just take him in..go in as a "walk in". They should see you right away since he is a puppy. Like mentioned before Yorkies can go down fast..Get ready and go now...let us know how everything went |

not eating - drinking If your dog is really not eating or drinking you definitely need to go to the vets quickly. He may need fluids which the vet can administer. Syringing water is fine - but you probably can't really do enough. Also you can syringe some Karo syrup straight into his mouth probably 1/2 mil. Sometimes when I have a dog that isn't eating I will try baby food chicken - most of them love it. By this time I do hope you have brought your dog to the vets. Karen |

Parvo? Im assuming u vaccinated your puppy but if not, PLEASE have him tested for parvo, not eating and drinking is a symptom, next is diarrhea and being lazy, not feeling well, and then they die. Please keep an eye on him! I had a puppy die of parvo a while back (he picked it up when we had a wind storm) and we didnt take him in quick enough (not eating or drinking was his first sign), I will never forgive myself, it's a horrible disease :( |
Wow, sorry for not responding sooner I've been trying to feed my baby again. I listened to you all, my vet will be in his office in an hour and I am going there right away so that he can see us first. My puppy is 10 weeks old and he weighs 2.4 Ibs. In the meantime before I get him to the vet do you guys think it is okay for me to boil him chicken and try feeding him that or he's too little? and as for the vaccines he had his first vaccine two days ago which is when his weird actions began. Oh and I tried putting honey in his water but no help there he still wouldn't drink it. Also, how do puppies get parvo? (sorry if I sound ignorant I am dealing with a tiny dog for the first time in my life and am getting absolutely no help from my friends or family). I appreciate your concern so very much. |
