Warning! Long Story about Bloody Poop. Please Help! Squeekie had bloody stool last night, here's what happened this weekend. On Friday, her stool was a bit soft, not completely hard like the norm but not liquidly either. Her appetite seems fine, she ate her kibbles normally. She's not excessively drinking water. Her treats are organic chicken jerky. On Saturday, we were out all day, we left the house at 8am and didn't come home until 10pm. Squeekie doesn't like to eat when she's not in a "home" environment. So I gave her some half of no lactose string cheese so she can have something in her tummy, this was around 1030am. She won't Poo or Pee in the car or even if we stop the car to go outside, she won't Poo or Pee. So she poop around 11am, again, poop was soft not hard. Then we were mostly driving that day and didn't get home until 10pm, when we got home I didn't notice if she had pooped. On Sunday, she mostly slept all day. She was playing a little bit, but she seemed tired. I didn't notice she ate her kibble or she didn't drink her water much either. So I cooked them boiled chicken with the usual supplements. Hubby said she ate a little bit of it. This was around 5-6pm. She still looked tired and sad so I gave her no lactose string cheese to perk her up. She ate a little bit. Then around 1130pm she went to the bathroom to poo, then when she went back to bed, I noticed her butt was bloody when I was tucking her in. I started freaking out and she got really scared. So I calmed down. Then I ran to the bathroom and it looked like a scene from a chain saw massacre movie! She pooped ALLOT! Around the poop was liquid blood, some dark red. Then I noticed that she threw up 3 times. I'm guessing this happened before she went to bed back from coming from the bathroom. Poor baby, I watched her like a hawk, we didn't have pumpkin and all the stores were closed. I couldn't trust any of the antibiotics I have left. I have some left in pill form due to expire next month. But didn't give it to her. She was really uncomfortable, she kept moving around the bed and couldn't get comfy to sleep. I guess she was really hungry because around 130am she sneaked to get a chicken jerky and ate it in bed, after she finished she went to drink. I don't know if she had threw up after that because I fell asleep. What could have caused the bloody diarrhea? Her poop was fine and hard prior to Friday, then this. I'm planning to call the vet to set up an appointment to get her some meds. Any advice we surely appreciate it! |
Please get her to a vet fast. You never know what it might be and it is better to be safe then sorry. Believe me. |
Do you have cats? Could she have gotten into some cat food? |
The vet just opened and I got a 12Noon appointment with them. No we don't have cats. Its just her, her mom Naboo, and her dad Wookie. I free feed them, so she has access to her food anytime. |
What color is the blood that you found? Did it look like raspberry jelly by any chance? |
Um, yeah. It smelled like blood too, not poop. :( Quote:

Ask the doctor about panceintitis (sp?). I would call the doctor and let them know that this is happening. I don't want to alarm you but this could be really serious. Did you get to talk to someone and let them know what was going on? |

Squeekie doesn't have a fever and she has no issues with not eating. I am concern it might either be an intestinal bacteria infection, Coccidia, or Giardia. I did get a stool sample to bring with us for our appointment. I just feel bad that I had to go to work today and cannot be with her until her appointment. :( |
Here read my thread. I hope that there is some information in there that will help you. It really sounds like what happened to my Tinkerbell. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ns-please.html |
Thank you very much for all your help, Sharon. I am sorry to hear about your Tinkerbell. Quote:

Thank you but I am just trying to help another that they don't have to go through what I went through. Good luck and I will be praying for you. |
Thank you Sharon. Quote:

I had a very scary experience with bloody diarrhea. It started with just a bit of loose poop which I thought was odd, but wasn't terribly concerned. Within two hours Peppy was dripping bright red blood. It was about 4 pm on a Sunday afternoon, so I called the my vet (they have a vet on call 24/7) and took Peppy in. They started an iv right away to help prevent dehydration, and started running tests..... every test imaginable. Never determined what caused the episode, so it was chalked up to a gastro-intestional upset. I was told that some dogs just have sensitive stomachs and their bodies react rather violently to tummy upsets. He was in the hospital for 4 days. Since then he has had a couple of episodes of loose bowels a couple of times there was a little blood, and when that happens, I take him off solid food for 12 - 24 hours and give him a bit of Nutrical to help him through. Peppy is just a little guy at 3 1/2 lbs so I worry about him not eating. |
I am very very sorry that Squuekie is sick -- I know how scary it is to find bloody poo..... I will keep you in my thought and prayers. Good luck with your vet visit. |
My Lady just had HGE on Memorial Day and her symptoms were very similar. She started with just a little upset tummy and not wanting breakfast to bloody diarrhea about four hours later. I rushed her to the vet. Fortunately, I got her there quickly enough that her case was mild and she didn't have to be hospitalized. HGE can become very serious and life threatening quickly. Hopefully this is not what you are dealing with, but everyone should be aware of the symptoms. Toy dogs are prone to this and acting quickly can save their life. Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE) |
also check for clostridium this is EXACTLY when bella and diggy do when they have upset bellies from the bad bacteria. A fecal exam should show it. |
Thank You, everyone! I am writing all these down to ask the vet! I was so scared when I saw that I started screaming at my hubby, not mad, just panicking like OMG OMG. Squeekie noticed my mood and immediately started shaking and scared and wanted to be hugged. So I calmed down, toned down my voice, and she was fine afterwards. Squeekie was a bit cranky this morning but I think it was because she had dried poop in her butt! So I washed her before heading to the office. She seemed fine, she was walking around like she normally does watching me get ready and she didn't have a fever. I wish my vet has 24/hr service. There is an emergency vet near us but their fees are astronomical! When I took Squeekie there a long time ago for constantly vomiting, they charged me $700 just to get her hydrated and we still had to go to our regular vet in the morning for some meds. |

Lady is my first little dog and I am still amazed how quickly toy breeds can dehydrate. |
Good luck at the vet. Finger's crossed that it can be corrected on meds. It could be several things since so many stomach problems have the same sympthoms. I am so happy you were about to get a fast appointment. Will look for an update. Hugs, |
GOOD Luck !! It sounds like you know what it MAY be and your vet will find out for you - I hope it's something minor and treatable - |
It could be alot of things. My chachi had it when he had gastrointestinal upset. He also had it when he had worms. I would get to a vet |
I hope she's alright. I'm sure you'll post when you return from the vet. Please know in the meantime, she is in our prayers. |
thanks guys! I'm at the vet right now, they are doing blood work on her since I'm such an idiot I forgot the stool sample at home! The vet thinks its hge or pancreatitis because of the amount of blood I described to them. I think its bacterial. They wanted to hospitalize her but I said I'll monitor her at home since I know her personality better. Plus she hadn't had her 2nd stool yet from last night. I'll wait for that to see if there are anymore blood and she agreed with me. I feel sorry for her by herself in there because she wouldn't stop shaking or panting, she's so scared of this place she only does it. When she goes here. I called my boss and he gave me the rest of the day off so I can monitor her at home! |
I hope she will be ok. Please let us know. I am glad she seems to be acting fine. But, something is going on, and the faster it is treated the better. :aimeeyork |
I hope everything is okay with her Stella did that before and it IS scary, thank goodness it happened on a Friday afternoon before the office closed. |
omg I'm outside of the vet cause i cant go in with squeekie and I can hear squeekie screaming!!! I think its her, it sounds like her and I hear the tech shout "hey"! Omg I am getting pissed. Yup it was her the tech n doctor just me her back n said they had a hard time getting blood from her!! |
If it's HGE you may have to leave her overnight depending on what her packed volume (bloodwork) is. I was able to bring Lady home with her HGE, but I took her to the vet immediately so we caught it really fast. I was able to give her subq fluids myself, but in more advanced cases, an IV is needed. Pancreatitis can also be life threatening. Please listen to your vet. It may be necessary for her to stay overnight. |
They won't know until the blood work comes back tomorrow so its better if she stays with me where she is comfy. Especially how thy tech treated her |
I hope they let you know ASAP, tommrow! The waiting part is very, very difficult. I am curious about what area your in? i lived in Concord, for several years. Wondering what vet you took her too? :aimeeyork |
Christine, prayer's are on their way for your baby and you. I do hope she rests more comfortably tonight at home and has a better bowel movement when she does go. Please keep us updated. Hope the blood work shows only something that can be taken care of with meds. |
