sick yorkie help! My little girl is 2 1/2 years old. About a month ago she started vomiting the white stuff and then started vomiting bile, not often but maybe every 2 days. . Next she was vomiting her food undigested! I took her to the vet and he put he put her on Hill's ID. She had also lost about 3/4 pound, weighing a little over 5 #. She didn't improve so he kept her 4 days and she started feeling better. 3--4 days later same thing. He did a barium test with and without food and this was negative. she was also kept at the vet's for 4 days again. Brought her home and she acted normally for 3-4 days, eating her chicken soup for the dog lover's soul. She was doing good on that till yesterday morning, started acting sick again. I put her on the ID again, and she ate it with gusto. Then late afternoon she started pacing so, after reading this site I gave her a few crumbs of tums, didn't have pepcid. When we went to bed she vomited up her ID undigested, just more moist. I am going to take her in to my vet this am and see if I can get some results from earlier testing. She is now weighing just over 4#. I was hoping someone could give me some info. She is a beautiful little girl. Donna |
need help Please weigh in with your opinon. I think vomiting undigest food is her biggest problem (loosing nearly 1 1/2 pounds).I am leaving for the vet right now, and hope to get responses when I return. Thanks for any help or insight you can provide. |
I am not sure but has your vet done a xray? we had a Golden Retriver that had blockage in his intestins and had to have surgery. I really hope your vet can get answers for you. |
fecal exam for bacteria? |
I'm sorry to hear your baby is so sick...Hopefully someone on here can share their experiences with you... |
Thanks for replying. Yes he did x-ray first thing and then also as he was doing the barium tests. I left her again and he plans to do some blood work. I will pick her up (20 mile drive) and see what he says. |
How serious is vomiting up undigested food? |
I really need help. I didn't get the results or even info on the type of tests my vet has given Zoe. I asked him if he did a blood panel and he said bring her in and he'd do it, that was yesterday. She has pretty much stopped eating and has watery bowels (hasn't had an episode for 2 hours). I called today and he said the blood work, blood was taken from the side of her neck, showed her thyroid was low and he would figure out the dosage tomorrow!! and call me. I called the MU animal clinic, and they can't take her until 10th of June. This vet is probably more up to date than the others in my area, Any one have any ideas about a low thyroid or any of this? |
I don't have any answers but just hope you find out the cause and that your baby gets better soon! Warm regards, |
Hoping your baby get's better real soon. Has your pup been wormed? Just a suggestion. Bud was very sick for almost 4mos and I changed vet's before starting testing he suggested the cheapest and wormed him. It worked. It seems, not showing up in his stools, he had a lonely MALE parisite in his intestines which do not lay eggs therefore nothing to see in the stools. I wormed him, per meds from the vet, and within 24 hours he stopped throwing up and had a solid stool for the first time in 4mos. He also lost 1lb. PS He was wormed as a baby but never after. He was 2 when this occured. |
Thanks for your concern and advice. I'll talk to him about worms when I pick up the thyroid meds tomorrow. |
Please, do not puzzle your vet over. It seems he knows what he is doing. He just needs more time to complete his study of that problem.I think he is aware of the situation better than anyone else here in forum Please, keep us all posted about your babie's condition. I think she will be needing a special diet (most likely some homecooking)when she is back from the vet. Ask your vet about proper menu. Good Luck!!! |
Hope your baby will be ok. |
Thanks for all of your responses. Her tests showed that her thyroid is not working right. She is feeling better, actually squeakng her toys. She got her first dose tonight, and there are a lot of pills in that bottle! Maybe her hair will grow better now. Thanks again for your concern. Donna |
Donna, please keep us posted. Donna also |
how is she? I hope your baby is better> i also want to say to a poster above that doctors miss things too! my maltie poo was mis-diagnoised due to a dr puzzling over it! i admire asking for help from people who go through the same prob! so thats crazy for just asking, and that makes me mad! i hope she is better but im glad you asked becaue maybe it might help me or others in the future!:) |

Zoe had been feeling good these past few days, but yesterday she wasn't quite as spry, she'd still run to the door when someone came in. This am she started pacing again. Just wanted me to pick her up and then wanted down to walk some more. Took her to vet and before we got there she is all wet around her mouth and face (15 min drive). When I looked down at her she was glassy eyed. His guess is she has the "liver shunt" problem. Est. cost for diagnosis and surgery at a specialist is up to 10,000$. I have to leave on Sun and be gone till the 15th on a trip with my dau and 2 grand dau flying to Fl and I can't back out on them, we've planned this for months. It's killing me. Do you think it would be a successful surgery and how expensive was it. Please respond! |
Never mind, the vet just called, Zoe just died. |
Here is what I think. The wetness around her mounth says about nothing except she was not felling good about that car trip (it could be just car-sick). What about liver shunt, that can be serious. Before going for the surgery I would go for second opinion from other vet (or may be the third one). Believe me they can be totally different. Good Luck |
I'm so sorry about that. I know exactly how you feel.I lost my 6 month's puppy recently and that was a real tragedy for me and my wife. My wife had been crying whole week. We just could not believe that our baby was gone and our house got empty. However we found the strength inside to get another puppy one month ago and our pain of loss eased up by now. We are going to give more love and more care to our Tina. You did the best and there was nothing you could do about it.Accept that, please and keep on living. We all in forum feel deep sorrow about your loss. |
I am so sorry for your loss. Hugs and prayers are going out to you in this terribly sad time. |
I am so very sorry.... |
