EMERGENCY!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! Sorry its long but please help me

:aimeeyork
Hi I need some help really bad and fast!!!! I have evil neighbors that live down the road who had 2 yorkies, well sometimes when im outside i have noticed them abusing them. So one day I was outside and I noticed one of them loose, so i called it and it came to me, it had no collar or any identification, so i made it my dog and I have had her about a month. When she came to me she didn't walk right everytime she would try to run her two front legs would slip out from underneath her, and she vomitted quite often which was usually bubbly and white, well about a week ago i had just finished giving her a bath and she went on about her business and i stepped into our laundry room to get something and she was beside the washer and i thought that was unusual so i called her no response, and i did it another time or two still nothing so i went up to her and petted her head and she didnt budge so i started to worry because this is very unusual, so my moms b/f picked her up and she was limp she could pick her neck up or anything, so at first i thought she was dead but shewasstill breathing. So my mom rushed her to the vet and at first he said she had trauma to the head, diabetes, and she was very dehydrated, (She was in there almost a week) so 2 days later hes like she has liver and pancreas problems, then the next day he took a stool sample and she had no worms but when we got her she was soooo boney, but anyways he really couldnt find anything out so finally we went to the vet and picked her up and he said that her teeth were so bad that she probably had an infection throughout her body, so the neighbors really done some damage to her, we had her home 1 day shes eating ok and shes drinking like crazy, but she can only pick her head up she cant walk she can stand for about 20 seconds total and she falls its almost like she in half of a coma, I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!! and the vet seems to be no help. SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE OR MAYBE WHAT I CAN DO PLEASEEEEE I LOVE MY SNICKERS SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!! :aimeeyork and she is a female yorkie between about 8yrs old and 11 (thats what the vet said) please email email me at sindel@e-garfield.com

I would give her nutrical for low blood sugar. If you don't have nutrical you could give Karo syrup. I really can't say exactly what is wrong with her it could be so many things. I hope she gets better soon.

LoveMyBaby 07-28-2005 11:12 AM

oh my gosh im so sorry ...
such a terrible story...
if your not satisfied with your vet go see another one...
i wonder what exactly the prior owners did to her.
have they even noticed that shes gone??
do they know you have her??
what about the other dog??
i think you should report those neighbor of yours.. quick!
im sorry i dont have any further advice but plz keep us posted :(

jbarile 07-28-2005 11:14 AM

This is so sad!! Im sorry I can't advise you. But from what you discribed this poor baby comes from a puppymill. and Its obvious if the owner is only down the block and you have her baby she really doesn't give a damn (sorry) you did her a favor by taken her problem off her hands! I would be careful investing anymore into a vet just in case you can help this baby the owner may come back for her! and If you should want to invest I would have her sign the dog over to you and possibly the other one as well! and turn them in to the proper authority. you would be helping both of these poor dogs!

good luck and please keep us posted to the out come

I agree with what Chachi said and I also think that you need to call your local animal shelter and report what you have witnessed and what is wrong with the dog that you have.

I agree because if the neighbor would want there dog back you would have to give it to them, it is their dog no matter how they treated it. I would go threw the animal shelter and tell them what you have told us and about the vet and see what they say. They might have a vet for your to take the dog to that is very good and cheaper. I would hate for those neighbors to get their hands on the dog again- what is the other yorkie doing they have to be awefully lonesome for each other.

Its Me Again!!!!

Thank you guys for being such good help. Well the other dog, well one time she got loose also she became my mini-me her name was pippi, loved her to death, my moms b/f accidently let her out and they wound up getting her, she got loose from them again, i got her again, she got loose again from my house through a hole in our privacy back fence, and of course they had to be outside when she got loose, so they have had her since, thats been about a month or so, so if i ever happen to get her back im gonna chip her, we even called the police on them and they couldnt do anything about it (you know how they are), and yes they know i have my snickers they seen her one time but i dont care what they think they will NEVER GET HER BACK the other one (pippi) they baby her a little more than they did my snickers, but when they are outside and they have her on a least, like when shes trying to go to the bathroom, they jerk her around on that leash like a rope, but thats cops for ya. please continue to give me advice and let me know if you may find out anything that might help her, i want her to walk again so bad and shes trying, it was just last friday she was walking and wagging her tail at me :( thank you so much

i agree with everything said before. what have they done to the dogs like hitting them? could some of the problems just be of old age? hmmmm, maybe phsical theropy can help with her walking. they have very special things i'm sure could help her! good luck let us know what happens!!!
ps welcome to YT!!

ReconsMomma 07-28-2005 11:27 AM

Technically the cops cant do anything about it. You have to call the local animal shelter. The animal shelter is the one that will help you in this matter. If I were you I would call them as soon as you can cause them people can get you in some serious trouble for taking thier dog if they want to. Taking the dog to get chipped isn't the smartest thing to do either. It can get you into even more trouble.

Call the animal shelter and do things the right way or you could be looking at some serious heart break down the road.

orinskye 07-28-2005 11:36 AM

i agree with everyone else...... the shelter is your best bet.... i know you want waht is best for the dog, but TECHNICALLY you could be considered a theif, both by the cops and the people that actually own the dog, and they can choose to come after you at ANY TIME (especially if they know you have their dog).... AND if you start making their life hell (which is what you are basically going to do if you go to the shelter) then that wwill give them even more reason to press charges against YOU........ you are walking on thin ice with this one

sophiedog 07-28-2005 11:37 AM

You need to check into the laws in your state. Here in KY, if a loose dog comes in your yard and you feed it, guess what, it's yours and it's your responsibility, if it isn't tagged and licensed. After 30 days you can get it tagged and licensed in your name and no one can do anything about it. We've taken in several dogs that way. Call the animal shelter in your area and PETA and the ASPCA on these people ASAP! The local shelter can tell you about the laws regarding stray and/or abused dogs. Good luck and I hope everything works out for that poor little baby. You are both in my prayers.

Most of the time this rule will apply. But more than likely the dog is registered and they will have the paperwork to prove it. It is very easy to play dumb about things when your dog runs away. I have delt with this many times when i was working as an animal control officer.

JCarlson2004 07-28-2005 11:54 AM

I'm so sorry for your little girl. But I do agree w/ everyone else. Be very careful that charges are not brought up against you. Please try to LEGALLY make her yours. Also, check out other vets. Good luck and keep us posted.

swtnutns 07-28-2005 01:23 PM

Please

Take Her To Another Vet Now!!!!!

red98vett 07-28-2005 02:15 PM

I think she needs medical attention from a different vet first ...and ASAP

then worry about those people - They sound terrible ....Kelly and the others had very good advise but it sounds like your baby needs some VET ATTENTION now or you could lose her - this is not good that she's this bad off....Please take her to see someone and tell them what the situation is - they can work out payments if money is a problem - but I would take her to a different vet and get her records from the first vet.

bubbles4blossom 07-28-2005 02:48 PM

O no that is so sad.Well the 1st thing i would do(the only thing i can think of right now)You report those people for abuse. You said that they still have 1 yorkie Right? That means that they are giving that yorkie twice as much cus (the one you have) is gone. That makes me so sick.Yorkies are so tinny and it is so easy to hurt them.I feel so sad for both of those puppys but at least the one you have will live out there live in a loving home.Did she even notice that one of her dogs were missing?I would go steal the other one so the can be together and it dont get beat on.

You need to get a second opinion from a different vet ASAP.
The first vet sounds a little shaky to me. And really I mean today when I said ASAP. Poor baby. Good for you for helping this little dog.

wendybee 07-28-2005 03:15 PM

you need to get to a vet ASAP you dont no what those evil people done to her that has come out now.
good luck and let us no how she gets on

We found out the hard way! A rottweiler decided to take up residence here and got into our neighbors garbage  . Poor fellow was so skinny, we had been putting food out for him. Instead of the neighbor coming over he called the sheriff. We told him the rottie was a stray that was starving, we had posted him in the paper but no one had called. He told us that since the dog wasn't tagged or licensed we had two choices: take him to the pound or take responsibility for him since we had been feeding him he was considered by law to be our dog! No way would I take him to the pound, the pounds down here kill strays in 30 days and surrendered dogs in 3, (if you take a stray in it's considered a surrender) and charge $75 for adoption, there are lots of big dogs in the pound here and most are put down. So, we got him tagged and licensed and found him a home ourselves. We get a lot of strays here and I refuse to take them to the pound. We take care of them for 30 days, tag 'em and find 'em homes. Most people around here won't even look for a missing dog, they just get another. I live in a rural county in KY and it's ridiculous at the amount of dogs that just roam the countryside, sometimes they form packs and turn wild, when that happens they kill the whole gang. It isn't fair to those poor creatures, it breaks my heart.

Hello Again!!!!!!

thanks for writing back we appreciate the help! Of course like i said the police cant and wont do anything, i live in missery (missouri) and the town i live in is absolutely no good. The animal shelter wont do anything, i do appreciate the advice about calling them and asking them the laws i will have to do that. But other than that they dont care about your pets really, they like to find them on the streets and then fine you money, but they are not really animal people, like i said the town i live in they are all crooks BELIEVE ME, so that would be out of the question. And as far as the neighbors go, im not concerned about them, they seem to baby the other yorkie a lot more, than my snickers, but someone asked about the abuse i have seem them do and they yell at them a lot and when they walk them on leashes they jerk them, like when they are going to the bathroom they jerk them back in the house i dunno if they think its funny or just ignorance but at least i saved one and I AM AFTER THE OTHER ONE AGAIN!!!!!!!! And i will get her b4 long hehe. Keep me updated as i will for you guys thanks soooooooooooooo much. btw shes sleeping lol :moon:  sindel

Snickers update

Pleased to hear this little angel is improving. Did the first vet put her on any medication for infection from her teeth? Infected teeth can kill a dog so it is important that she be put on antibiotics ASAP and then have a complete dental workup done. There is something seriously wrong with this little one and she needs medical attention NOW. Did the vet do any x-rays of her legs? It is quite possible that she suffered a head injury however the vet should have done x-rays to rule out skull fracture etc.

You can't just leave her to get better on her own she needs to be monitored by a vet who knows what he/she is doing. By leaving her to recover on her own you may well be sentencing her to a life of deformity.

Has it occurred to you that your neighbours aren't asking for her back because they are aware of the amount of $ it is going to cost to bring this little darling back to health.

Take a yorkie rescue is never easy and almost always results in extensive medical bills. I applaud your efforts to save these little furbabies but you must also be prepared to provide the kind of care they need. I'm sure if you were to contact a yorkie rescue group in your area they would be able to assist you in getting the care the dog needs as well as helping save the other dog.

Good luck.

sindel 07-30-2005 08:37 PM

hey thx for the info. I never knew of a yorkie rescue group, so there is most likely not one around here missouri really sux. I have not taken her to another vet im going to see how her checkup goes on wednesday. No the vet that i have been taken her to has not done any xrays though now that i think about it he should have, i will have my mom ask him that at her checkup. She is doing really good today!!!! Shes walking really good, shes not stumbling all that much she staggers a lil bit but other than that shes doing excellent!!!:) Eating fine, drinking fine lol. Im actually taking better care of her than the vet was, they had her laying in a bed with water and food, and she couldnt feed or drink herself, so i feed her on a plate, and give her a water bottle and she does fine, but they didnt really do anything to help her improve. But shes doing better, and i will have the vet take xrays Good though :) well i better go thx a lot

Happy to hear she is doing better. By all accounts it certainly sounds as if she suffered a head injury or a stroke. She sounds like a fighter so hopefully she will continue to improve. She's in good hands now.

If you report the dog as found to the police and the local shelters in this country ( England) After 9 days the dog becomes legally yours. Call your local animal shelter and find out what the legal time limit is on the dog to be able to keep her legally. If they have not reported her lost or stolen after a certain length of time LEGALLY she becomes yours and they have no legs to stand on to claim her THEN if you chip her and she slips out and you see them with her by law they would have to give her back to you. That is how it works here. I found that out with Cheeky while I had her. I am sure the states have a legal way to make her yours as well if she is not claimed and if they are not coming for her I doubt they are reporting her lost or stolen either.
As for her health take her to a second vet and get an opinion from them it could very well be her teeth if they are that infected. Good luck with her and let us know how it works out.

Please keep us posted on her condition! One suggestion: keep all the receipts from your vet. If the neighbors do decide to come after you then you will have proof of the amount of money you have spent on her medical care. Also, I think the suggestion by people to call the animal shelter is a good one. They should know about laws that would apply in your situation.
Good luck!! :)
