Mia is hurt Mia was chasing a squirrel in our yard and ran right into the fence. She let out a big yelp and I ran out to get her. When I did she seemed okay but now she is really favoring her right paw. She can walk now but it looks like she is holding it up. IF I touch it she does not cry or anything but she definitely looks like she hurt it as she will not walk on it like normal...she is just limping to me. I assume if she broke it she would really be crying...I don't know what to do. Do you think I should take her to the ER or just watch it??? :( Can I give her anything for pain or do you think I shuld just leave her alone?? |
I would just watch it for a few days. I have had that type of thing happen ofter. Yorkies jumping off a table, skidding accross the floor, even falling out of bed. They limp for a few days and then they are OK. |

Oh poor Mia and poor you! Caren I don't know the right thing to do but since she doesn't seem to be in any pain, I would just watch her. You're already into emergency vet hours anyway so I can't see how waiting a little could hurt. I don't remember if I posted or told you about it at the time, it was so long ago but I had a patio chair break and fall on Spike (with my grandma in it) when he was younger. He was limping really bad. I rushed him into the vet and they did exrays. He was completely fine. I think it's like when we stub our toe we might limp a little for a while. I wish I was more help. Hugs to you and Mia. |
Sorry your baby got hurt. It is terrifiying isn't it? Never know when to run to the vet or when to sit tight and wait. Wish they could talk. |
OKAY Update Okay so I THINK I am going to just watch it for the night but I may take her in to the VET tomorrow morning. She is really limping now on that little leg. EEEKKKK...I just know my sisters dog had a broken paw and we did not know it was broken till we took him in a day later. I can not stand the thought she may have broken her little paw. I mean it does not feel like it but I can tell she is NOT happy or comfortable for that matter. :( :( |
If you have johnson's baby aspirin...you can give her one of those. Honestly I'd just keep an eye on her and see how it is a couple of hours from now. No more squirrel huntin'. :( That is Ramsey's obsession...waiting and watching...for just one squirrel. I hope she feels better soon... |
Thought of something else...dogs have a high tolerance to pain...which is why they do not necessarily cry when you touch something sore. |

Thank you so much for the help. |

OMG Mia is OBSESSED with squirrels too...she goes NUT and now she obviously runs into fences. :( |
Call me if you just want some verbal assurance or just to chat. Is Chris home? I know how scarey it is but I think you're making the right decision. Hugs! |

Ramsey will not play with Reese or Reggie...nor toys...she must...and I mean must command her post and WATCH for a lone squirrel intruder. I think the squirrel even knows when she is home and when she is not....I haven't seen him in a 4 days. Doesn't stop her....she is a dedicated squirrel hunter. |
Hope Mia is ok. I know when one of mine has hurt their leg or paw and I took them to the vet by the time we got to the vet they were so excited and walked perfectly fine. Hope it's just a little sore and some rest will make it better. |
Poor little punkin!:( Do you have an icepack? If so, I would sit with her and let her lay with the leg on it. That would help with any swelling and maybe a little with the pain. Good luck! Keep us posted. |
Well her little leg has actually gotten worse. Now she is whining and really limping even more. I think I am definately taking her to the vet in the AM. I really hope her little paw is not broken. I will feel like the worlds worst mommy. :( |

I hope Mia is able to get some rest tonight. If you need anything I'm just a phone call away! :) |
Hope all is well. You're not online so I'll take that as a good sign.:) |
I hope Mia is doing better. Hot Rod hurt his front paw the first time he jumped of the couch. He favoured a for a while but he was fine. I am sure that Mia will be just fine. Good luck at the vets. |
Hope Mia is doing ok now and is able to sleep through the night. Please let us know what you find out at the vet. |
I am so sorry to hear that Mia was injured. I hope that the morning she will be feeling ok and will have forgotten all about her booboo. |
Poor girl! I hope her little paw is okay! |
You're not a bad mommy! I hope she's ok and doesn't have a broken paw. Poor girl!! |
Well Mia has woken me up at lets....see ....let me rub my eyes and see if I have this right...yuo about 4am. She is not doing well. Something is really wrong. I know it. Now she is throwing up and shaking. She is also doing a lot of short fast beathing. Gish I hope that asprin did not bother her. EEKKK:( I think she is really in pain. :( I am going to go ahead and get a shower so I can be at the Vets first thing. Wish Little Mia luck please. :( |
I can imagine how worried you are...if you haven't already tried to keep her off her legs I think it would be best if she wasn't trying to run around. If this is of any help I just broke my arm and it was in a "splint" for about 5 days before they did surgery. Not that I think she needs surgery but the length of time it was not actually "set" was pretty long in my opinion. It was put in a splint by ER then the next day the doctor. I am sure she will be ok but to avoid any additional swelling and discomfort I would really try to keep her off it. Also just wanted you to know when I broke my arm I would not admit to myself that it was broken.....we just don't want that stuff (although I did get to the ER within and hour). Stay cool till you can get her to the vet....I am sure she will be ok. Praying she is fine. Tina |
Okay, I know you are completely freaking out. Geeze I feel so bad for you! Hopefully it's just bruised and the vet can give her a good pain killer. |
any news?? I hope shes ok! Sending prayers and good wishes! |
Checking in. |
Poor Mia! I pray that she will be okay.:hands: These babies can really worry us. My boy Mugsy will climb on anything just so he can jump. He has a leg injury as we speak. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. Take care. :big_hug: |
Aww poor Mia. I researched for you and everyone else about Asprin. the safe dose is less than 30 mg per pound of dog. A baby asprin is 81 mg, So if Mia is over 3#, which i am sure she is that dose should have been safe, unless she was allergic. A regular asprin is 325 mg so even an adult asprin would have been toxic for a 10 # dog. I hope we find good news soon!! Bella is sending kisses to comfort you and Mia! |
Okay, I'm assuming your vet opens at 8:00 or maybe 9:00 since it's Saturday. Where are you? I'm getting worried. I'm trying to decide how much of a pain I'd be if I call you while you're at the vet. |
Aww, I'm sorry, Caren. :( I am just seeing this now.I hope everything is OK! Can't wait for an update. Let me know if you need anything. :) |
