Glad to see your post, Ms. Vicky. Been wondering how things are going. Things have been so rocky since you got Bleu, I don't blame you for holding your breath, so to speak. Hope you are over the "hump.":thumbup::thumbup: |
What fabulous news, Vicki! Praying lots of blessings in your life right now - your family deserves them after the rollercoaster you've been on! |
:cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer: Yea!!! Hope Bleu continues on his road to good health! He'll always be in our prayers! |
I think dogs are capable of hacking/coughing to get attention if it works for them. Mine does it sometimes. I have been very careful about not rewarding him when he does it so that he doesn't continue to do it but most of the time, I give in :p. He usually does it when he wants something that you are holding and no one is aware that he wants it. He will make the sound almost like he cannot breath and for sure he gets attention. for it He is not sick and I know for sure he does it for attention. |
Hi Im new here and glad to find this forum. My 5 year old Frankie had been coughing for almost a month, mostly in the mornings, and it really scared me. He had episodes when I thought he was choking and couldnt breathe, hacking constantly. I cried buckets everyday. We lost my other yorkie Derek last year due to a collapsed trachea and I feared that Frankie might have the same thing. We took him to the vet and after the xray and blood tests, they found out he had fluid in his lungs and a slight infection. He was given a shot of steroid, prescribed hypertension meds, antibiotics for the infection and diuretics to get rid of the fluid in his lungs. Our vet made sure Frankie's kidneys were in good condition before giving him diuretics though since long term use will be bad for his kidneys. After a week, his cough slowly stopped but he lost weight because he lost his appetite. He was drinking more water than ever before. The diuretics made him pee like every few minutes which was what the vet warned us about. To compensate for dehydration, we were giving him 5-10ml of Gatorade every 2 hours too. He's now recovered and his cough is gone but the vet prescribed meds for hypertension to keep him calm until he's fully recovered. We are off the diuretics now and Frankie's getting back his energy. Sending all the good vibes for Bleu's full recovery!!! |
So glad to hear Bleu to doing well. I had been out of town for the weekend and was not able to check so it was a joy to see your post this morning. Hope you are on an up hill road now. |
Hurrah! So glad to hear Bleu is feeling better. You both deserve it, after all you've been through. Here's hoping he will outgrow all this and be a healthy happy little boy, and that you will be able to just enjoy each other, without worry. Janice |
I so glad to hear he is doing well!!! Praying that all this is behind you guys now, and that Bleu will have the healthy, long life he deserves! :) :) |

Thank you for asking ! BLEU IS DOING GREAT!!! we thank all of you for everything but the latest is this.... One week ago today was his last episode. He actually had it when he got out of the bathtub from his bath... Wanna hear the good news ???? I gave him a bath last night NO EPISODE whatso ever.. So he has officially been one week no BREATHING PROBLEMS EPISODES COUGHING HACKING NOTHING! I have taken him off all meds as of 2 weeks ago. He is very hyper active runs plays rolls tosses turns anything a normal yorkie would do... We are so happy and enjoying him but definitely keeping him as calm as we can but yet allowing him to be BLEU BOY! SEEMS TO BE IN PERFECT HEALTH! |
Yay!!! That's what we want to hear! |
Yay!!! I love hearing good news;)!!! And yes it would be best to keep Bleu calm during his recovery. Im trying to control Frankie's barking too( which is out of my control LOL ) so as not to trigger another hacking episode. We turn on some music in the morning and keep it on til the evening so he's distracted from the noise outside. It actually works :D He's more relaxed and less angtsy. He still takes his hypertension meds in the evening which may be a lifetime thing according to our vet:( We are due for an ECG next week to check whether he has a heart condition. If all is clear, hopefully we will be off the meds. I am soooooooooo happy for you and Bleu!!! There's always light at the end of the dark tunnel:) Will continue to pray for our babies! |
Vicki, thanks for the Bleu Boy update :) -- and we're doing the happy dance here - rejoicing with you! |
By the way, our vet mentioned last time that hacking for a few secs is a way for them to clear their throat. I will verify this again. It makes sense though. I noticed Frankie does this when he barks too much:confused::aimeeyork |
