cost of L/P surgery? for those of you who have had this done, how much does L/P surgery cost? i live in CA but a price from where ever is okay, i am just curious, i think my girl has it and i am doing some research.. |
I am really not sure but i remember someone was getting it done for her dog here and it was $1,500 each leg. Mine have it too:( |
Shelby had the surgery in both legs. I can't remember the exact figure, without looking at the paperwork, but it was about $2400.00 for both. (That does NOT include the Physical therapy that she is having POST surgery) |
My baby has grade I and the vet said not to worry about surgery yet (possibly never)!!! |
I live in CA. as well and Zada had both knees done which ran 1,322.50. |
1,300 is not THAT bad, compared to the others.. the reason i thought my girl might have it is because when i lift her back legs sometimes i can feel them pop.. is this a symptom? other than that she is totally fine.. i read somewhere that the legs legs do pop sometimes.. is this true? my girl went to the vet today for her follow up bile acid from her L/S surgery hopefully the test comes back normal.. but i had him check her for L/S and he said she was fine.. what do you think about the popping? |
Well Zada's knees made a crunching sound and she had a grade 3, but she never limped or showed any signs of LP at all. I don't know, but a poping sound doesn't seem normal does it? Could you get a second opinion? |
yeah, i could get a second opinion.. it's not a sound, i can feel it, and it seems like it's more her thigh area, than her knees.. like the joint where her back legs start.. |
Gracie had both of hers done at the same time, it was $3800. Pre-op there were x-rays and an exam that was about $400. The surgical fee covered the post op care, even an extra bandage change and all meds. |
I hope your girl does not have LP! Good luck to both of you! |
Roxy had both done at the same time $3000 (Long Island) And she had a poping noise in both her legs, that was one of the signs with her. Other signs were that Roxy had this cute walk (like skipping) - I feel awful for thinking it was cute, b/c it actually was her knees luxating. When it would get bad she would limp or carry her leg in the air. That's when we got her into surgery. |
bilateral LPs depending on the grade of it can run from $3000-$4000. One leg can run from $2500-$3500 |
LP Surgery cost I had surgery performed on Gracie in November here in Virginia, cost around 1500 for one knee. It was well worth the cost, she runs like the wind now and I don't have to worry about her compensating with her other knee and causing problems with that one......... |
When Lucy had hers done, both knees were $2800 that covered everything, pre and post op. Although, physical therapy wasn't suggested. Instead I had to do range of motion exercises on her legs. If I had them done one at a time it would have been $1800 each. |
WOW where do you guys find the money for that?? Do the vets work out a payment plan with you? That surgery is equal is at least 3 months rent for me!! Yikes! |
Lily had both legs done and when all was said and done it was 3,200 and worth every penny. |
Codie had both knees done. They were $1,500 per knee and that included the x-rays and blood work. It does not include physical therapy after the procedure is over. The best money I ever spent. Codie is like a new pup again. :D His knees are solid and TIGHT and I couldn't be happier. My vet is truly fabulous. |
What are the symptoms, at what age does it usually prevail itself? I am so nervous now!! |
Lily would limp every once in a while, hold one leg up, skip when running and just before her surgery she would whimper sometimes when she would get up in the morning. |

WOW!!! Costly there... We have a vet in western Maryland, who says that it's only a couple minute job and a few stitches... He charges $300.00 per leg... Our Miss Bittles is there now... |

Well your lucky there! My Lucy had grade 4 LP and besides deepening the groove in her knee, they had to move muscles and tendons by cutting off chunks of bone and pinning them on in different places. I think I have read that some dogs have to have the bone broken and put back together because it is so crooked. Lucy's wasn't that crooked. Lucy was born with grade 4. She didn't walk very well when I got her at 8 weeks. |

omg it is definitely not a couple minutes and i would never let a doctor do surgery on my dog after saying this. $300? yeah right. |
I spoke to him about this again today and he indicated that it was, in about 90% of the cases, just a matter of deepening the groove and closing it up... From other folks in the area and their feedback, I believe him... My surprise today was that she is still early stage 2 in the left and stage 1 in the right... No recommended treatment other than Synovi G3 suppliment and Rimadyl for the pain...After xrays today, he diagnosed her as arthritic.... Maybe worse than a simple operation, since it has progressed to her hips also... I'm bummed... |

Actually it was my exaggeration that got the "couple of minutes" thing going... He did say that it was less than an hour procedure and usually relatively routine... Remember, we live in a depressed area, where the average income is about a third of the average California income... Mostly farmers, miners and retirees... The large animal hospital in the area charges more but still much less than the figures in this post... As I said in my last post, the LP is not what's causing her problem... It's arthritis... I guess all the years of NuPro silver have helped... |
Conner has to have LP surgery after his liver straightenes out. The vet quoted $700 for one leg. This includes bloodwork but not meds and physical therapy (which the physical therapist does right in the vet's office). Conner will probably be scheduled this summer. His last appointment was canceled because when they did the blood work, his numbers were a little high. The vet would not do the surgery until his numbes are within range. He is now on meds and special food and doing very well. |
I just got the info 3200 Tede needs both knees done. I also wount let them squirt meds in his mouth. so it going to be more. i had trouble after he came back last time. getting him to take meds. so im willing to pay more.but WHAT....15 min ...not what i learned |
