Both of your babies are absolutely georgous. Sammy looks like she is definitely on the mend. What a little trooper! Loki's tricks are great :)

Ahhhh ... they look wonderful!! The video is so adorable ... what a great little entertainer Loki is!! I am so happy to see little Sammy doing so well! Thanks for the updates ... I look forward to hearing good news. ;)

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I just read about Sammy. It sounds as if she is doing really well. I loved the pictures of her bandages. To see what to expect bandage wise is a big help.
One of my questions is at what point did you know it was time for the surgery? I was thrilled to hear you got to bring her home the first night. Even if we do not rest we know they are in our arms and feel much more comfortable. How long did the surgery take? And what is expected when it comes to recovery time?
I will look forward to hearing how Sammy continues to do. Thanks again for the reply and pictures. Missie

I just looked at the video of Sammy walking. She is precious. She seems to be doing great. When did she have the surgery? Her little hair cut is darling. Seeing the video is putting me a easy somewhat. The bandages are even cute. Thanks so much for the pictures, video, and time to help those of us facing the surgery.

I am so pleased Sammy is doing well. What a good mommy you are. Both your babies are lovely. Wishing Sammy a full recovery.

Ohhhhhh Sam! I'm so sorry for you're having to be threough surgery!! But you look grrrrrrrrreat! Both the babies are beautiful.

I'm glad everything went fine. I hope she recover fast! She looks so pretty in the pictures! Sending her lots of hugs.

Her surgery was March 20th. They were going to keep her overnight because they usually do, but they had less surgeries that day and they got her done early so she got to come home. The first few days/nights were rough because the pain meds were not really working and then she got the UTI. Last night though, she slept through the night so a week later that's awesome! She will have bandages on for 2 weeks with limited activity (obviously) no running (which amazingly she had tried to do multiple times and I have to remind her, that's why she has to be watched!) no stairs (she's tried) no jumping (she's tried!). So as she becomes more active like yesterday she is going to be spending a lot of time in her crate or in the bedroom with the door closed. I put her on the floor if I'm not sitting ON the bed/couch with her, but now that she can walk that's only so helpful. After the bandages come OFF she has the same restrictions for 4-6 more weeks. THAT is the hard part!!

Oh as far as when it is time to do surgery - you should just see a specialist. We had a consult back in January and she said they would do both legs and gave me an estimate for the surgery. She called it "elective" saying that you don't have to get it done but they will get arthritis early and in Sam's case it did affect her ability to walk. She is almost 2, so they put her in the puppy category. It sounds like they like to do it when before they are 2 but I would go get checked now. We waited until now thinking the weather would be better and it did snow the first day we had her home but now it's 45 which is a lot better than snow! We do have to carry her outside to pee so that was a factor. Also I'm off work this whole week so that helped us decide. We wanted her all better by summer too!

You are just God Sent to us facing this surgery with Luvy. I so agree with the hardest part being not allowing them to jump, climb steps, and be their normal selves. I do not have a doggie stroller. Keeping her zipped up in one and having her near us I am thinking might be a good idea. I will start researching which stroller would be the best to buy. Any thoughts on the best stroller to purchase?
What was the determining factor that Sammy needed her surgery then? Give her a few sweet hugs and kisses from Luvy for the day. Thanks so much again.

Thanks so again for the quick response. Luvy is 9 months and we would like to wait until she is a little older. If we could just wait until the late in '08 we would feel better about the timing. We hope to wait long enough for her to be fully grown. We worry about her growth plate. We see our Vet again on Tuesday for Luvy to have some teeth pulled. We will talk with her again about timing before setting up our first appointment with Texas A&M Vet College. Thanks so much again.

OMGosh...what a little doll! Both your babies are! I can't believe how well she can walk with her casts on. Bless her little heart! I hope the days ahead go fast...it's so hard to try to keep them from being wild and crazy!

Well, the bandages came off today. They were starting to slip down so I called and they wanted them off. The staples don't come out until next week. The specialist's office is so weird. Every time I call they act like I'm being needy. I mean, they did want the bandages to come off so it's a good thing that I called right? I also called to ask when I should make her follow up appointments (next week and another 4 weeks later) and they were like "I guess you can do it now" and then they said they were "booking up fast" so why was it was problem that I called?? UGH. So I asked them if I could take her to our regular vet to take the bandages off and they said OK. Our vet's office is super super nice and didn't even charge us to take the bandages off.

Her legs are all shaved, but I couldn't get a picture because they are really bothering her. She was totally fine with the bandages on but now she won't put weight on the left leg and she is just laying on the bed with my husband and she looks very sad. I ran to the local dog boutique and bought her this like $60 designer bling jump suit thing because that's the only thing they had with legs and she was licking the staples. So she looks hilarious and I swear she is mad at me for making her wear it. I'm tempted to just go buy some baby pants but her waist is only like 10 inches so I don't think I'll find anything that will fit. I need to order her some Go Fetch PJ's ASAP!!!

So I'll get pics of her legs maybe tomorrow... but here she is in her "bling" track suit thing. She looks like a rapper.

Awwww........she looks adorable in her designer jumpsuit. But I hope her left leg will feel better tomorrow.

Ahhhh, poor Sammy. Maybe the bandages felt snug & comforting and now that they aren't there it feels sore. Sweet baby looks so sad. Hugs & kisses from Toto & me. :p

I think that's it. She was definitely a lot happier with the bandages on and now she is not happy at all. She growled at Loki when he came near her to sniff her now missing bandages and she never acts like that. Yesterday she was trying to play with him. Poor baby is snuggled up for the night and hopefully she will feel better tomorrow.

I am thankfull for your up dates tede is going in next week. My I ask what they charged for both legs? My ins. is refusing to pay.I dont know why I got it. They have denied everything... nothing covered since he was a puppy.. well I think the rap suit is great.:getwellso I am wondering if the bandages on the legs gave more support. so less pain. and can you rap her up again? I know I ask if I could do something to rap up tedes leg since he is limping. Vet said no they need the mobility. I am just soooooooooo:crying: :hands: :wavecry: :cry8: upset. I just cant help crying when I see him,, hes upset to see me cry. but taking him in.. well you know...I wish he understood we are doing the best thing. Why did they do both? They want to do both on tede too. said get it out of the way and less chance of problem with meds.

OK so we went back to our regular vet again because the space in between 3 of the staples was all red and it was bothering her. They took the staples out and gave us steroid cream, a mild sedative.... and a cone... :rolleyes: She looks so sad! But she is very happy to have the staples out!! They were really bugging her in that one spot.

She is happiest in the middle of our bed, so we take turns sitting with her. I went back to work today after a week off so I think it will be my turn for the rest of the night!

:eek: She look good in her jammies. did they let her ware any thing at the hospital? I know tede gets so cold I worrie about that at night. You know a yorkie mom wakes up lots of time at night to make sure there tucked PROPERLY:p :p :p :D I'm sure we do it the right way... Is that a soft coller?

Yes its a soft collar. She is done with pain meds. I don't think she needs them. She isn't shaking/whimpering any more - that ended after about day 5. She was just very unhappy about the staples. She only got to take a blanket to the vets and leave her collar on. All she wants to do now is sleep on the bed, whereas before with the casts she was following me around the house and was acting normal. I know she is very scared and has no idea what is going on. Every time she adjusts to something we change it on her!

We love her Go Fetch Soccer Monkey PJ's but they have no legs. We ordered her some with legs and hope they come soon!

She is so cute but looks quite pitiful, poor baby. It's just so hard to watch them in pain, even just uncomfortable. Both your babies are so cute! We're sending hugs for a quick recovery!!!:hug:

I've been really sick so I'm sorry for the lack of updates. I have a sinus infection. Anyway Sammy likes shopping but it tends to wear her out so the only place we had to go today was Home Depot and they are pretty pet friendly so why not? She had fun riding the cart and now she is sleeping... WUHU!

Sam feels like 90% back to normal. That means she thinks she can do stairs and jump up on the couch which she is definitely NOT allowed to do so we have to entertain her. But overall I think she’s healing well. I keep trying to get pics of her legs but she moves too fast! Her legs are all shaved and her knees have big scars on them (good thing she’s furry!) So, here is a picture of the grippy socks I got her for traction!

The last picture is Loki sleeping on his favorite bed in the closet. He kept laying on the floor in the closet (his safe place) so I just put his bed in there. He's sad that Sam can't play, sad she is getting all of the attention... he doesn't like change and he's sensitive. He'll be fine once Sammy's back to normal. I need to send him to Grandma's house for special Loki time.
