Shaking This isn't an emergency but I am concerned. For the last few days, Ellie has been shaking out of nowhere. She isn't really having any other symptoms. She isn't scared. She doesn't have hypoglycemia. Her liver is pretty stable, so my guess is it isn't that (although it could be). I just cut her hair very short and it started around that time but it isn't cold in here and she still does it after I cover her up. I don't think she needs to go to the vet and I will try to keep her warm to see if that is the problem but I just don't know. Any ideas? |
Hmmm strange. Any loud noises in the neighborhood or any storms that may be scareing her? Sometimes they shake when they are in pain. Sorry I can't think of anything else. Hope she feels better soon |

My guess is she is just cold from her haircut. I had mine groomed last week and of course they cut all Bailey's hair off & just trimmed Angel. But Bailey has been shaking a bit also, so I have put a t-shirt on her. Seems to help. I hope that is all it is for you. |
Kayla will sometimes shake like that. I don't know either what causes it. I usually make sure she eats something or give her some entracal. I have noticed when Mandy gets nervous and shakes when there is a storm Kayla will too. She will also bark. I guess they pick up on each others feelings. Tina just sleeps through the whole thing. lol!!! Hope you can find out whats wrong, but its probably nothing to worry about. |
My little guy jasper shakes like that to, i always think he is cold, but he shakes with a shirt on also, maybe there size has something to do with it? |
Ya know, I swear these little stinkers have their own little deals sometimes....just to make us post about them. Marcel does this *out of the blue* sometimes too, and it freaks me out and confounds me to no end. Is he cold, hungry, low sugar, nervous, scared? Oftentimes, it seems none of the above. It'll sometimes come out of nowhere. Sometimes it'll be here and there for a few days in a row (like what you're seeing). At those times, I almost wonder if he's picking up on a smell in the neighborhood (something dead perhaps?) or a sound of an animal in distress. It's really weird and mysterious - and I always feel like a bad mother when I can't console him out of it, or figure it out - and then *poof*, it's gone as mysteriously as it appeared. Little poop. |

My main concern for Ellie is that her liver is reacting to something but I just don't think it is. I guess they could shake because they are small and get cold easily but this is not normal for Ellie. I have her in a onesie and in a blanket and she is still doing it. Either something is wrong or she doesn't like being in a blankey. She has been doing really well for the last few days too (except for shaking). She has been so energetic.:) |

I don't think it is anything outside. That is just not normal for her. Who knows. Now that she's been in the blanket for awhile, she stopped for the most part. If it's the hair cut, I guess I'll have to hold her til it grows out.   I just don't know. |

You could massage each ear simultaneously btwn your fingers - this hits all the "energy meridians" (if you will) and supposedly can be quite calming for all animals. So hard to know what to do when you don't know if it's anxiety or physical... |

It doesn't get worse in certain rooms either. She started it a little bit in bed last night out of nowhere but it seemed to stop a couple minutes after covering her up. She isn't doing it now but I'm sure she will in a few hours and it will be the same temperature in here. |
lacey always shakes after she has eaten and i have the lactulose or hepatto support on her food. she also does get cold really easy, but she is really skinny still. and now she shakes when she has to go out at night because the other night there were a pack of cyoties howling. she is affraid for almost a half hour when she comes bk in. i dont know if she seen one or if just hearing them has freaked her out that much but it took us a few days to figure out what was going through her head at night. |

Crystal, one thing you might check for that could be causing this is bladder or kidney stones. Dogs with compromised livers are prone to these and they can be very painful to the little dogs. Is her urine normal looking? If she pees on a potty pad and the urine is dark yellow or has a tiny drop of blood then that is a indication of stones. I hope is it nothing serious, I know you give her the best of care. |

i jusy uped her to 2 tsp 4 times a day of ld, i am trying to put some weight back on her. |
Huh, that really isn't that much food. Can you give less L/D and supplement with another liver-friendly food? I wonder why she is so sensitive even with very low protein and lactulose. |
here are her meals every day 6am: 2tsp LD, 1/2tsp yogurt, tsp apple sause lactulose 10am:2tsp LD, 1/2 tsp cottage cheese. 1/2 tsp carrotts. amoxi drops, vetri dmg 2pm: 2tsp LD,1/2 tsp green beans, watermelon, lactulose 6pm 2tsp LD, 1/2 carrotts , watermellon, hepato support 10 pm 2 tsp LD, 2 ml pedia sure, lactulose |
although i have to add even when i only give her1 tsp of food and nothing else she still does this, i have tried only 1 thing at a time and its always only when she has the lactulose or hepato support. |

I just had Bella shaved down. She shivered for 2 days. I just kept her dressed. She also acted very skiddish, easily scared. It's as if she was freaked out by losing her hair and the fact I could see different body parts shiver (knew she was cold) After a day or two she was running and playing like her old silly self:D |
I hope Ellie is doing better. Hugs and kisses to her. Sheilagh |
I just came across this thread. Aww I hope Ellie is doing better. |
