Yorkie killed by Husky at local PetSmart I don't know if this has been posted here but here is the info. http://www.southwesternontario.ctv.ca/news.php?id=599 |
That's awful! |
omg how terrible!!!! poor baby and poor momma!!!!!!!! |
How heartbreaking for that family. My thoughts and prayers are with them. Rest peacefully, little one. |
That is so terrible. What responsibility does the dog owners have who killed this baby, I only take the girls to Petsmart for their nail trim and they are kept in their carrier at all times. When I took them to the Halloween party I kept them in the stroller. My Petsmart seems to have a lot of big dogs in it and I wouldn't want to take a chance. |
Absolutely Horrible Poor Baby Yorkie! |
thats terrible,i wonder what they are gonna do to the owner of the huskys, that poor lady seeing her sweet yorkie being mauled like that. |
Not to start an ugly debate... At the dog park we go to, on the big dog side every time there is a fight a husky is involved. *shrug* |
How awful!! Coby loves meeting big dogs, but there is always an unknown factor. Most people are good admitting that although they haven't seen any aggression, they can't be certain. Assuming on the side of good people, I'm sure that the husky owners were just mortified. No matter if you are 100% certain of your dog, it only takes one instant of something unexpected happening. And as the owner said, she wasn't saying her dog couldn't be a problem, but mortal injuries would be a bit tough for a Yorkie. How awful. I can't even imagine!! That poor girl broke my heart talking about it. Ty was the about the same age and the size as Coby. |
Lacy has always hated huskies...anytime she's been around one she get's really pissy. So we always try to avoid them. Poor yorkie...I can't imagine going through that |
oh my gosh that is so sad!! :( |
Thats terrible. The worst part is when you goto court the judge treats the death of an irreplaceable family member like an item. |
My dog always likes bigger dogs as she has a brother that is a big 80 lb dog. But that is also up to the owner of the huskies, if he knows they are aggressive they shouldn't be taken out somewhere like that. Its hard to say who is right, but some one is lost without there little pal now. How terrible to see something like that happen. |
Omgosh...I feel soooooooo bad for the family having to go through something as terrible as that....When ever taking my baby out to a store with other pets around I always keep her in a shopping cart or carry her...Ty was almost the same age and size as my baby.... RIP Lil Ty....:angel2dl: |
I am very careful with Chloe. Shes smaller than she thinks and I am just over protective of her. |
Oh Ive been in that petsmart before and saw it on the local new too...its so terribly sad..fact of the matter is any dog has the capability of turning for no apparent reason..I know my friends miniature poodle did some damage to my cheek as a child...I always carry my dogs around petsmart and I am even wary of them being around any other dogs of any size..I certainly wouldnt have let them near an unknown dog of that size..I feel so bad for them.. Dawn |
That is so tragic and my heart aches for the owners of that sweet little Yorkie. I agree...that any dog can get aggressive in the blink of an eye, and it's better to be safe than sorry. Maddie was attacked once, by a big dog who had never shown signs of aggression and had even been around Maddie a couple times before that. Maddie wasn't doing anything to provoke that dog either...he just decided to attack. Thank goodness she was on a leash and I quickly pulled her out of his grips. I will never trust a big dog around my little ones! |
That is so scary. At petsmart I usually let Rocky sniff the other dogs, not dogs that are too much bigger though, but dogs his size. But now I'll definitly be more cautious. It's his favorite place to go and sometimes you don't think "it could happen to me" |
I feel very bad for the family and that poor baby :( I don't worry about bigger dogs, but always watch for dogs that seem aggressive when we're out anywhere. |

oh this is just horible.... i feel sick about it... i ALWAYS carry Layla in petsmart for that reason.. there are SO many big eager dogs who want to sniff her and all i would take is one paw on her to hurt her badly.. and i KNOW i get looked at like.. i'ts a dog. let her walk.. but i just don't feel safe... we are signed up for classes there next weekend and i think i might cancel them. |
reason I do not take mine to petstores This is a prime example of why I do not take my baby's to a pet store.. they would be in a stroller, and I do not and would not care who laughed at me.. But keeping my furrbutts safe is first and foremost for me..  this is so terrible to read, and too many people think they can tell ahead of time if a larger dog will attack..  I just copied the story and emailed this to a friend that thinkes it is ok to take a yorkie and let him stroll around...  pooh's mum |

I guess for me personally, I don't want to keep my dogs too sheltered from meeting other dogs and carry them or keep them in a cart or stroller when we are out. I only bring one (two max) of my dogs when we go to a dog park or a pet shop so that I can have my full attention on them and the other dogs around and even then I know something could happen. But I think that in life, it's just that way and that at times bad things happen for no real reason, so I can't see not letting my dogs explore and have their own adventures. I of course, do my best to keep them as safe as possible -- but I start to drive myself nuts with worry from hearing about all the bad things that can/do happen to dogs everyday. |
This is so sad. I have always thought going to Petsmart or Petco or Three Dog Bakery or any other pet boutique is a treat for the yorkies, we don't go a lot, so I always let them walk in on their leashes, and walk around that way. But with this story and so many others about attempted dog theft and aggression, it is making me totally rethink everything I do :( - once again the irresponsibility of others makes life difficult for others. I think it's awful that the owners of the Husky have not come forward. |

Just like having children, we have to find the balance between allowing them to explore and enjoy life while also protecting them. It's just a hard pill to swallow when freedom meets with tragedy. I too, will continue to "treat" Coby to trips and adventures, but this is a good reminder to always be dilligent when doing so. |
