Logan is on his way to see vet number 2. The vet he saw this morning isn't my normal vet so I felt uncomfortable with the diagnosis. He's on his way to see my mom's vet now. I'll let you know when my husband gets back from this vet, what she said. |
We just got home from vet #2 with a diagnosis. They did an x-ray & a rectal probe. They are confident that he does not have a blockage. However, on the x-ray his bowels showed up swollen. The diagnosis is that he has an extremely irrated bowel. We are to not give him food or water for 24 hours. Then starting tomorrow night we are to begin giving him rice & cottage cheese along with a stool softener. The vet is confident this will correct the problem. We are then supposed to work in pieces of his hard food, but not move him back to his regular food until tuesday. The 1st vet gave us liquid antiboitics, but i'm not sure he should take them on an empty stomach & I'm not sure I should give them at all since the first vet didn't tell me what they were for & he doesn't have a fever. I may call the 2nd vet tomorrow & ask her what she thinks about the antibiotics. But at least we have a diagnosis now & a plan rather then a wait & see. |
I am so glad you took Logan to another vet and got a better exam and diagnosis! I'm so glad to hear he wasn't blocked. :D |
It sounds like you made the right decision taking him for a second opinion. Best wishes to you and your pup! Hope he feels all better soon. |
Thanks for the update! I have been thinking about little Logan off & on all day ... poor baby. If I were you, I would definitely call the 2nd vet and ask about the antibiotic. He could possibly need it since his bowel is irritated. Please let us know how he's doing. Will continue to pray for a speedy recovery. |
sorry to hear about Logan. i've noticed you've been feeding him a lot of rice. could that be what is binding him up and making it hard to poop? what are the antibiotics called that the doc gave you today? they may be antibiotics for his stomach. is it metranidazol or famotidine? I'd try giving some plain non fat yogurt to help add good bacteria back into the digestive system. |
Glad to hear that Logan is better! |

Logan is acting normal just tired. He was also very interested in food when we got home at 6. I felt so bad telling him he had to wait til tomorrow so that his system could recoup. Thank you so much for your thoughts & prayers I'm sure they are helping greatly. I will update in the morning. I would not be hesitant to give the amoxicillian except the 1st vet that gave it to us didn't give us a reason to give it. Like this will help ..... so i'm hesitant to give because it seemed to me like the 1st vet had no idea what was wrong, but figured antibiotics wouldn't hurt. |

I'm glad he's acting hungry. That's a very good sign! |
Just checking in... glad to hear you took Logan to a 2nd vet. Looking forward to hearing good news in the next couple of days. |
He seems better. He still seems like his bum is a little inflamed, but he doesn't act as lethargic & He's doing everything in his power to try & get us to feed him. I gave him a tich of karo syrup last night before bed to make sure his sugar stayed up & we gave him a small spoonful of cottage cheese this morning which he ate with vigor. I hated to actually fast him til 5 because his last actual meal was 5:00 thurs. night & then he just had a little bit of rice & cottage cheese yesterday at 3:30 cause that's what the 1st vet told us to do. so if we fasted him til 5 that would of been 48 hours with only a limit bit of food & i thought that was too extreme. We'll probable keep him off food now til noon & then start giving him a couple small meals tonight. He starts the stool softner tomorrow morning & the 2nd vet thinks he should be back to himself by tues. Here's hoping. He's acting better. He even wanted to play last night. |

I'm glad he's starting to feel better! :woof: :woof: :woof: |
Update: Vet Number 1 called this morning with the results of tests they had to send out. All his tests came back normal so this in no way is related to his pancreas or liver. Vet #1 then diagnosed him with an irrated GI tract also & told me that the moxicillin has anti upset properties & also was to help stabalize that natural bateria in the tract that may be out of wack. So I called vet #2, but the actual vet wasn't in, but the vet tech said there was no harm in waiting til Monday to start the antibiotics, so I am to wait until monday & then call back in with an update & they'll give me further instructions from there. He is chasing the cat again which he wasn't doing yesterday so I presume we are on the mend. |
Thank you for the update. Very glad to hear he is returning to normal. I know this has been a tough week for you. Yorkies are so endearing but they sure are a lot of work! |
