Ambrose broke his leg Ambrose broke his leg yesterday and is in surgery this morning. The break is very bad; basically his only option was surgery. If they would have put a splint on it, he would have never be able to bend his leg again and his leg probably would have to be amputated later in life. My poor little boy. I was at work when it happened. My boyfriend was at home. Ambrose was throwing around a toy on the floor and my boyfriend left the room to make supper. He then heard Ambrose yelping in agony. I believe the surgery will go well but I am really sad. Ambrose will not be able to walk or play for the next 4-6 weeks. I will either have to have him in his crate or on my lap. He is only 14 weeks old so he basically will not be able to be a puppy for the next 6 weeks. I'm so sad!

You'd be amazed at how well these little guys can bounce back! Make sure to ask the Vet lots of questions to ensure Ambrose has a great recovery! Ask about vitamins ... pain management ... how this will affect growth in that leg ... things to strengthen after recovery ... You probably have little pens and such since he's a baby, but we found that a baby crib or something small helps immobalize while letting them be with the family and see what's going on.

| I am sorry to hear about Ambrose!! It is so hard when they are hurt, you wish you could take it for them. They do bounce back quickly though, and you will be surprised!! It is hard to keep them as quiet and still as they need to be!! Best of luck, I hope Ambrose has a very speedy recovery!!!

Thank you so much for your support and advice! The surgery was more complicated than the vet first expected. He ended up having two fractures instead of one. Not only are there pens in his bones, he is in a leg and partical body cast! I haven't seen him yet. I may be able to pick him up tonight but most likely he is coming home tomorrow.

Poor little baby. But, like someone said you will be suprised how fast they bounce back and they also mend faster being young like that. Mandy bounced Tina off the bed when she was 8wks. old. I kept her quite and in her kennel for awhile, and then she got when the others ran she could keep up with them holding that little leg out. It was so funny. She did fine and your baby will too. Just take extra care and love and kisses.
