| Lepto shot reaction symptoms Ok I have been doing some research and most of it I find is that some Yorkies have reactions and some don't. My mom forgot to tell the vet not to give Cricket a Lepto shot and so she got it. What are the symptoms my mom needs to be on the look out for? If something happens, when does she need to call the emergency vet? Thanks. |

| Hi I'm not sure what the specific symptoms are, but you should watch for any swelling of the face/head with any immunizations. Also, refusing food, vomiting, runny stool and lethargy. Now sometimes pups will feel a little icky for the rest of the day after their shots, but it shouldn't be extreme and it should not last more than a few hours. As long as she's eating, playing, and pee/pooping, all should be well Hopefully someone with some actual knowledge of this will come along shortly

| I forgot to add that our vet told me that the head/face swelling is an emergency situation, but 99% of the time, it happens in the first 20 minutes after the vaccine is given. It's so nerve wracking being Mommies to these little ones sometimes, isn't it? But OH so worth it!

| My boy had an allergic reaction to a vaccine last night. It did happen about 20 mins after he got it, his eyes got swollen & red and he broke out in itchy hives all over his little body! I called the emergency number the vet gave me and they told me to give him 2mls of childrens benedryl and just make sure his symptoms did not get worse. It worked and in a couple hours he cleared up and was fine. But the whole time, that was his ONLY symptom. He ate and drank, he was running around and itching himself, he did not have a hard time breathing and he did not vomit or have diarrhea. If that occurs then definately take him to the emergency hospital, but if its red hives, call them (instead of paying for a visit) cuz its probably just a benedryl situation. Good Luck!! |

| The first set of shots Venus got, think it had the Lepto in it. She laid very quietly, and didn't want to play at all, eat, drink, or even walk. The next day, it was like nothing happend! She was back to her old self again, getting into anything and everything she could. You can do a search on this board and find any post with lepto in it. Look above to the first dark blue line. Look for "user CP". Go across to the right till you see "search". I use the search engine a lot on this board! Hope your baby did fine with the shot! |

| Bailey had his Lepto shot last night and ITCHED all night long.. except when sleeping. I called the vet and he said it's a reaction to the shot.. and said..give him one tsp of Benadryl.. every 4-6 hours. He has no other signs other than the constant scratching which I hope goes away.. SOON!

| Many will not give Lepto because of the high risk of problems with it. Our vet will NOT give it to small dogs at all because of it.

Thankfully the itching has stopped with the benadryl or the reaction is over. He was miserable, I felt so bad last night.

| Miss Ellie had a reaction to her lepto vaccine. She threw up, went into shock and collapsed about 30 minutes after the shot. She doesn't get it anymore and I will not give it to any Yorkie of mine ever again.

| It is stated within my contracts, absolutely no Lepto vaccine.....It's been known that Yorkies have had very adverse reaction to the vaccine as well as death.

| One of my yorkies Lulu had a reaction to Lepto. After she received her shot I had her in my arms and went out to the counter to write the check and she went to the bathroom all over me. I thought that she was just nervous so I finished paying and went out to the car. After we got in the car she became unresponsive. She was awake with her eyes open but she was like totally dazed. I could not get her to respond to me in any way. We sat in the parking lot for about 20 minutes and slowly she came out of it. At the next appointment I told our vet about it and she said that if that ever happens again with any injection to immediately bring her back and they can give her a shot of benadryl to counteract the reaction, and she is to never have Lepto again. It was so scary that I will never have any of my yorkies have Lepto. They now have the immunizaions minus the Lepto. |

| My maltese is allergic to the Lepto also, so I gave my Yorkie puppy all her immunizations minus the Lepto and she was just fine, thank goodness.
