Is he eating the canned U/D or the dry?? Please give him canned, not the dry if at all possible. Also, if I were you, I would ask for the L/D instead of the U/D because U/D contains pork liver which is one of the worst foods for liver compromised dogs and will overwork his liver. Overworking the liver will in turn cause more stones, so I would recommend you ask the vet for L/D. |

Most vets don't pay attention to the fact that u/d contains pork liver, but it is very, very high in purines and actually not good for dogs who are forming ammonium urate stones due to liver problems. Also, the vet may try to say "but the u/d is lower in protein" While this is true, it's the wrong KIND of protein and it's also very high in fat. |
