sick baby I am asking this for my SIL, she has no idea I'm asking though, she would have been on here to ask but she is too wrapped up with little tinkerbell..... she has a little girl that is about 10 weeks old (I can't remember without looking at the calendar) Lately she has been crashing, she crashed last sunday, and my SIL got her back with nutrical, pedialite, and subcue fluids, she did fine and then started crashing in the mornings and at night. Not as bad as the first time because she is keeping her right next to her and not out of her site, she eats some, and drinks some, not as much as she was. she weighs .....not sure the exact but I know she's under 2 pounds. She doesn't vomit but does have soft poop now, We are thinking coccidea but the crashing so often is scaring us. She has been given Albon and Reglan. She is taking her to the vet in the morning but for now I was wondering if anyone has had similar experience and if so what was the diagnosis |
When we first got Luna she had this problem. She needs to feed her frequently, and this formula helped get my girl stabilized until she was eating on her own: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58036 The nutrical is good to get her going, but shouldn't be used too frequently, as it will cause the crash. She needs protein and good carbs to keep her blood sugar stable. One of the effects of coccidia seems to be the inability to keep blood sugar level on their own, as they really won't eat enough. Also, keeping the baby warm is VERY important! Prayers going up that she is all better soon:hands:  |
she has her wrapped up and near a heating pad on the couch next to her. I will give the recipe for the formula. just keep the prayers for her. |
I don't have any advice but my thoughts and prayers are with you... |
thank you.... I will be sure to pass this on to her, maybe she will get on here and give updates, if not I will |
How is the baby tonight? I hope better:love:! Definitely tell her to call the vet if there's no improvement. These little ones can go downhill so quickly. Yet, they can also bounce back quickly as well;). |
she hasn't called me so I'm assuming no news is good news, for now. I know she hasn't had much sleep over the past few days with tinkerbell, so I really don't want to call alot, but she usually calls me when there is anything going on with her babies |
Keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the best. |
coccidia needs treated 21 days, vets usually only give 7 days  I would put her on some yogurt we use walmart GV strawberry & restrict playing so she doesnt tire & use the nutrical on a schedule so you are catching her before she crashes. I hope she gets strong soon. |
Well I spoke with her this morning and this is the first morning she didn't wake up crashing! WOOHOO!!!!!! My SIL said she hand fed her some wet food last night before bed and tinkerbell woke up just fine. |
Oh good! Thanks for the update, I hope that Tinkerbelle continues to do well:) |
I spoke to Dee and Tinkerbell has been up and playing today!!!!! She's starting to feel like her old self and going after her brother and sisters. She's eating some moist food and drinking the pedialite and so far so good for today. |
Well I was hoping I wouldn't have to add anything to this thread but tinkerbell is going to the vet this morning for a glucose test and some other testing. Dee and I don't believe it's coccidea, this is going on for too long with no change. She refuses to eat so she is hand fed and even after she is force fed she starts to shake and will still begin to crash. The poor baby has lost 2 oz so she is down to 1lb2oz at 12 weeks. She sometimes has energy spurts and goes out to potty on her own but then she sleeps for a long time and then starts to crash when she gets up. When I say crash, she shakes, her legs can't seem to hold her up, her belly also makes the worst gurgling noises that you can hear without being close to her. Pleas keep your fingers crossed and pray for her |
News on Tinkerbell 1 Attachment(s) :) :) :) Well good news. It has been a long 3 weeks but we have made it. She is now eating on her own. She has gained back up to 1 lb 3 oz, she is .1 oz from where she was 5 weeks ago. She is my little fighter. I have posted her cute Christmas picture so all can see how cute she is. Thanks for all the advise. I used yogurt with baby rice cereal and Pedialyte with can puppy food to get her back. She is now back on hard food. I still feed her rice cereal with puppy food once a day so that she will gain her weight back.:) :) :) |

But yes, thank goodness for cute yorkie clothes. Keep us updated on this little sweetheart! |
Mine lost her hair after an illness but it grew back on it's own and quickly as well. I just dressed her to keep her warm. I hope yours does the same. I would have a thyroid test done anyway. Jessica |
We have a sick baby too Hello We are just beside ourselves , it's been a roller coaster. Started Friday 12-21 We went from a health bouncing little 13 week old girl to a shaky weak little baby we have been to the vet 4 times He has been giving her shots to keep her sugar levels up and fluids shes on the up right now but still not herself. How is your little one doing now? I'm not real familiar with the breed but our vet is talking about her liver??? |
Help I have never posted on any chat group on the internet and to be honest I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but I am just so desperate to find help for our little puppy. I guess I' looking for some good news that there could be a reason for her being off balance and her head shaking besides her liver? |
Hi, Welcome to YT! I am so sorry your little girl is so sick. Have you contacted your breeder to see if her other dogs have this condition and to let her know that your puppy is so sick? I would start a new thread of your own. I do not know about liver shunts but others on here do. You will get good advice for your little girl. |
