What high quality food do you feed? Please check all that apply. I am asking this because I want to know how many people feed Innova or Orijen. Ellie needs something for grazing, so we can feed her less homecooked. |
Sorry i'm not much help, its 100% raw here. |
Layla gets home cooked food (we will start back introducing raw when she is done being sick!) and we have to use Orijen when we travel in the US, since we cant bring food into the states |
i feed morgan a raw diet too. right now she's eating Nature's Variety and Primal samples, along with some meat chews. I'm gonna start giving her raw chicken and raw meaty bones soon too. |
I feed Evangers moist and dry |
Izzy gets Back to Basics and for a mix-up I will give her California Naturals and some Merrick Puppy Plate. I do give her Natural Balance rolls but only cut up very tiny for clicker-training. |
I use Royal canin, formulated especially for yorkshire terriers. |
I free-feed Innova Puppy and then homecook a little. |
I chose other because I feed Lacy Nature's Variety Raw medallions |
I think a raw diet can make your dog sick.. |
I feed Canidae. |
I've tried him on so many heres my list Canidae, artemis, wellness, chicken soup, california nat, grammys pot pie, Avoderm, nutro nat choice and diamond natural. He LOVED nutro and Diamond so we finally settled on Nutro because its easier to find and Im sort of worried about the whole recall issue with diamond. I must have called 20 places and 1 person carried it. so should that store stop carrying it i would be stuck. I've come to the conclusion that Nutro isnt the best but its not the worst either and its what he eats and ultimately that is what is most important, especially for my 3 pound baby. another thing i realized is that its not what i want him to eat its what he wants to eat lol |
Nature's Variety chicken and rice medley |
Cody's on Hill's S/D but I am getting my first bag of Canidae to see how does. He did great on just the little sample bag of it. |
I feed mostly homecooked, with some kibble from Blue Buffalo. I haven't found a kibble I want to switch to yet, and my dogs have done well on BB food. |
I feed Toby a mixture of Nature's Logic Dry and California Natural Puppy Dry. They are both all natural and highly recommended by Toby and me. :) |
I meant to say Nature's Logic Wet not Dry. |

We use Innova |
Natural Balance Organic. It is expensive but worth it. $10.99 per 5lb bag. I know that what Buddy is eating is human grade food only. Then I supplement with home cooking too. |
Canidae? What is this food? Also....I am noticing that NO ONE uses Science Diet....is there a reason for that? |
I use Nutrience or Blue Buffalo and also I home cook for them too... Dawn |
Canidae is a high quality dog food. It is one of the best you can buy. You can go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com to research just about every food. Usually Yorkies do well on foods that are 4 or 5 stars. Six stars may contain too much protein/ may be too rich for Yorkies although that is not proven. Overall, 6 star foods are the best. One star foods are the worst of which Science Diet is one. SD is one of the worst foods out there. Ellie used to eat SD and then we switched to homecooked and I am looking into quality kibble for her to supplement. Science Diet Chicken Adult Small Bites would not be a good choice because it has corn meal in it. Any kind of corn is not desirable because dogs can have trouble digesting it and some are allergic. Sorghum is a filler along with brewers rice. I am not sure that they have much nutritional value. Wheat and soybean products also cause a lot of allergic reaction. Chicken by-product meal could be any part of the chicken (except feathers some say), which includes head, feet, toenails... Finally, it is good that a meat is the first ingredients but ingredients are listed in order of weight and the chicken was probably weighed with its water. After getting rid of the water (which you have to do to make kibble) chicken is probably farther down the list of ingredients and the next few ingredients, which happen to be allergy-producing, hard to digest grains would move to the top spot. I hope this helps. |
Spanky has tried Royal Canin, California Natural, Chicken Soup, Wellness, Merrick and Artemis. I also tried to give him Avoderm and Canidae, but he would not even eat one kibble. He seems to like the California Natural the best so that's what we're sticking to. ;) I only feed him dry formulas because I was informed that wet food is not good for his teeth. |

Check it out at www.dogfoodanalysis.com You'll find that most of SD's foods are low on the list. If possible, yorkies should eat a food that is 4-5 stars for the best nutrition. Many vets recommend Iams, Eukanuba and Science Diet because they get money from those two companies for their practice, and in turn, recommend those brands of foods. Also, they are really well known and easy to find foods, so most pet owners can go to any pet store and purchase them. |
we just switched over to AVODERM.... two thumbs up.. less poop in my house...lol |

I was glad that you created this poll!! I was thinking of the need for one during a thread from the other day. But I haven't tried my hand at a poll, so I was going to suggest someone make one. Thanks for reading my mind. We're on Nutro, and it has helped Reggie's allergy skin but not completely. I'm thinking of trying the Canidae. |
We alternate between Canidae and Merricks. |
We have Canidae dry for grazing , candae wet 1 a day and home cooked most of the time, supplemented with Missing Link PLUS . Treats are either home made doggy treats, some fruits and veggies and Natures Variety raw medallions 1-2x a week. I keep it different so no one will turn their nose up:p :) |
