Yorkies make you fat I have gained more than 30 pounds since I got my Yorkies. I was an athlete the day we got Eddie, and now I'm a slug. I blame it all on him! Exercise used to be my priority, and now my Yorkies are my priority. Instead of going on a long bike ride in the morning, I go on a short walk and then play keep-away in the backyard. Instead of riding my bike to work, I drive so I can get home quickly during my dinner break and play with my boys. Does anyone else let their Yorkies run their lives? |
I have no control over my life ever science I had my babies.LOL Not that I mind... |
Yorkiewhipped..... I don't know if it's the Yorkies or YT that's creating the middle age spread??? When I had the brain injury in 1999 I was unable to do alot on my own. I had double vision or no vision in my left eye and my balance was nil so I could not ride my bike anymore. So, after talking to our wonderful groomer, she taught me to groom my own dogs. I sat with her for hours just watching her. I was lucky to have Maggie who was a noodle dog and would just lay on the table and let me practice on her. Then there was Rocky who (after I lost Jack I didn't think I could love another dog) stole my heart the min he was born (tail first, my little breech baby). Then Sunnie the "she devil". They got me through when i was at my worst. Yes, I gained weight. But they were the best therapy for my mind that I could have had. I got better for awhile but now I'm in a period of loss again. The only thing that seems to help keep my mind working is YT & the dogs. But there's always hope. My dr is sending me to the Memory Clinic here in Muskegon at the hospital and they're going to try and help me find myself again. I truly believe that there is something special about the breed. They are so focused & tenacious. When I'm in a "lost" state they surround me and I feel grounded. I am truly blessed to have them in my life. |
OK, i just re-read what I posted. Memories......... I must have forgotten the topic, sorry. Can I blame the Yorkies for getting fat instead of the pizza, cookies, being over 50 & inactive??? |
Mike, I'm stuck in a loop and can't get out.. |
O def. My primary focus used to be school and then my relationship with my boyfriend. Dont get me wrong I still love him more than anything.. well except maybe Armani. I used to work out 4x a week and now I would rather be home. I study but only if Armani is sleeping. I need to break this habit and get back to my school work I only have one year left of college and I am a double major.. I cannot really fall back. But o my o my.. my baby is so addictive. My boyfriend is jealous of him!! |
He has definitely changed my life. I cant imagine it without him! He makes me laugh every day. Especially when Im down. :luvu: But, I dont think he has changed my lifestyle too much. I still work, go out with friends, go on dates and do my normal household stuff etc. The one thing that has changed, I don't leave the house for longer than 8 hours. On the weekends it is shorter like 3 hours. I try to take him with me on the weekends. During the week, I go straight home from work because I dont like leaving him home longer than I have to. Before I had him I would run errands after work, go hang out etc. and wouldnt come home until late. Now, If I have to to anything after work, I come home first. The other thing is, I walk more...which is a good thing especially on those days I dont feel like working out!:p |
The yorkies have definately changed my life but I still feel like I have some control. But, my life changed in the opposite way of yours, Mike. I used to be totally sedentary...never exercised. I hated exercising and still do hate it but now I MAKE myself take the yorkies on walks a couple of times a day which has caused me to actually LOSE weight since I got them! Instead of going out on the town at night, we now prefer to stay at home with the dogs. BUT, we still have some control. Probably once a week we'll put the yorkies in their crate and have a night out with friends. |
Conner had definitely changed my lifestyle. I have lost weight (because he loves his walks). I do not make the stops after work that I did before Yorkie. My husband and I would go out for dinner almost every night (now we go once a week and bring home a doggie bag). We would go to concerts, casinos and do everything under the sun and moon. Now we are homebodies (and just loving it)!!! |
I used to be a member of a gym and the month i got Rocky i cancelled my membership! ahhhhh h:aimeeyork |

As for the rest of you, I see I'm not alone. Hard to believe a dog can literally change the way we live our lives. But I agree, it's almost all good. |
She mad be fat Before I hated to be home alone, so I was always on the go. When I first got her, I never wanted to leave because she was a puppy. I gained 15 pounds, since I got her. I am now going back to the gym, it hurts to leave her, but mommy has got to be in shape:) |
I would say that my life changed a lot, although I have a itty bit of control :) I used to like to go out, but now I'd rather stay home and go out when it's necessary. I haven't gone to the movies since I got Bengi!!!! (a year ago!!!!). I'd rather rent a movie and watch it at home with Bengi on my lap :) Sometimes I really need to go out, but I feel so guilty when I'm leaving, watching his sad eyes looking at me :( ahhhhhhhh. |

I've actually lost a lot of weight since I got my yorkie! I know that between aug. and december, I lost like 11lbs, and I'm not sure how much I lost since then, but I cant fit into any of the clothes I bought last year. |
My life has definitely changed since getting my babies, but in a good way. I have actually been losing weight by running around and playing with them. They keep me really busy. |
Oh, yeah, it's changed my life. Before Sadie, I was only responsible for myself. I didn't have to be home at any certain time, and could do pretty much whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. But now I have to come directly home after work, and then feel guilty leaving her again, so I never do anything during the week! |
i got to tell ya... these guys has changed our lives in so many ways... we don't go out to eat much any more because there are too many to keep in the vehicle while we eat... and I don't want any one to steal them or it is too hot out to leave them in the car. or I dont' want them to be left at home for that length of time. we have also bought a 'dog house' that is a 31 ft airstream just for traveling because of the yorkies. and yes i have gained 40 lbs since I have gotten my first yorkie. (more due to aging i do believe). |
I'm not sure what effect it had on my weight...but now instead of just going for the morning workout, I have to come home and walk them. So I get exercise twice in a day! We had to buy a house...though it was probably time for that anyway. But we made sure that it had a yard that was already fenced, and wood floors so we could more easily clean up messes. In the house we had to make sure there was a place to store dog stuff-so the dogs have their own "bathroom" for all their food, treats, clothes, grooming supplies, etc. We had to have a place for them to stay during the day that's their own, so we have a HUGE master bedroom with an 8x10 foot section that's their own, complete with xpen, contemporary carpet, and a big "gazing" window. I now get up at 5 because they're hungry then, when I'd rather doze until 6:30 or 7 |
I used to go to the gym now I run home to the babies but I do walk them so it helps |

Before we got Snickers it had been about 8 years since we had a yorkie in our lives. My son was a baby and I wanted to wait until he was older. Since we've gotten Snickers, and then Baxter, our lives are pretty much ruled by them. We don't travel as much as we used to, because we won't leave them. I used to do kickboxing 5X a week and was in great shape. Since the yorkies, I've stopped because I felt guilty for the time I spent at the gym. Now I won't even go on a treadmill because it takes time away from them! So yeah, they rule our lives and I'm not as fit as I used to be. But that's ok because I have two little angels that give me more joy than traveling or exercising. My son is going off to college this summer, and now I have two babies that will always need me. My yorkies give me pure happiness, what else in life could do that? |
O yes..I would def say that Tiny has had a lot to do with the "life change" LoL...I actully miss out on things just cause he's not able to go! My house now looks like a 2 year old lives there....(keep in mind I have no kids)..Tiny is my baby...Love him to ...Would not change a day of my life to do anything different! |
Wouldnt yorkies make you lose weight cuz you're constantly playing with lil bundles of energy? :p Princess has definitely made me change my lifestyle... but not in the weight issue but I cant travel.. I havent traveled since I got her because I get too scared to let someone else watch her for more than a day.. Oh well! |

Around the house, I can't keep up with them, so I usually just throw toys. They definitely give me some exercise, just not enough. |
Wow! I love this question:D Yes, my Yorkies (and my other 2 furbutts) rule my life!!! (And I do not mind!!) I'm a marathon runner and when I had just the 2 older furbutts, I could schuedule things around my running and training (I'm kinda addicted to running), because they'd been with me for 10+ years and were accustomed. But since AprilLove a year and 1/4 ago, and Nappy 5 months ago, chose me, I schedule most everything in my life around the furbutts!!!!:) I still run, and am started training for another marathon, but I haven't done that in 2 years. I am doing it way differently now, and I use most of my off days from work to get that in, and then have more time with them:) :) I glad I am not alone in this feeling, I think about every way I can cut down on my work time, away time, so I can be with these little hairy joyballs!! My weekdays after work, are pretty much furball and play time!!! I even hold off going to the grocery store for me, so I can be with them:p :p And yes, to the original post, I have gained a few since AprilLove first came into my life :D :p but, that gives her more of me to love!!!!lol |
I have gained weight since having mine but I think it is more due to aging |

LOL....I agree...I have to walk Max first while it's cool enough in the morning and then walk myself (and by then, I get to walk in the heat:p )....I've got my own home gym b/c I'm also a personal trainer, but have you ever tried riding a bike with a yorkie on your lap who wants his chin over your arm, or jumping up constantly b/c he can SEE that you're just SITTING there waiting for him to sit on your lap, LOL:monkey2: :hearts-xx |

Have my Yorkies changed my life..... let me count the ways... Yep, I don't stay out for more than 4 hours usually. I still go to movies and stuff but am always conscious of the time factor. I love coming home to 4 little faces that are so excited to see me. :)(ok, one of them is a Maltese) I have a lot more debt now... :( Sometimes I sit longer than I want to on the couch cause one or two of them are sleeping on/near me and they look so cute I don\'t want to wake them up. Ummm.. the living room carpet is going to be a thing of the past before too much longer... Pergo here we come. People used to be able to come in the living room and sit down with ease, now everyone has to wade through toys and potty pads and then move all the dog blankies and beds to fit on the couches. :D I think that\'s enough for now. Oh, one more thing... lots of people think I\'m a little batty with my furbabies... oh wait, that isn\'t a new thing. :lol tears |
