Who did you adopt your yorkie from? I think it would be fun to see how our members acquired their yorkie babies. We have a huge membership and there are a lot of yorkies represented here so, IMO, we are a good cross section of the yorkie owning community. If you own more than one yorkie, please tell us from what source you adopted the first one you got. |
This is a good idea! I am interested to see how it all turns out! :) Sully came from a hobby breeder named Brenda, in Lafollette, TN (north of Knoxville) |
I got Lily from a hobby breeder in Missouri. |
One is a New Yorkian and the other a Ohioan I got Gizmo from a lady named Lynn in Holmes, NY and my new baby girl is coming from Scott in Portsmouth, OH (you all may know him on the board as YORKIEDOGDFG) has anyone gotten a puppy from him before? He said he sent the oldest litter of pups to there new homes last week. Just curious. Gizmo05's mom |
I forgot to include "broker" in the choices but I guess people can use "other" for that category. Thanks for your responses. |
Great thread idea SoCalyorkiLvr! :D |
It's my first poll! Thanks Schatzie! |
I got Simon from the vet (I guess that's other) when his original owner left him there b/c he wasn't "perfect" (he certainly is to me)! I got Hallie from the animal cops who took her from being abused and starved! I get sad whenever I think about what would have happened to either of them. |
I got mine from my cousin. She is a beginner breeder. I guess you would call her a hobby breeder. |
Ummm... you fogot to let us know where you got yours SoCalyorkiLvr. :p |
I got Gucci from a private party/non breeder in NYC. He is not selling Yorkies anymore last I heard. He last Litter which was the one I got Gucci from gave him a lot of headaches. They all had ringworm and coccidia. When I went to his house to pick Gucci she looks fine, a week after was when I noticed a smal bald spot. It turned out to be ringworm. When I contacted him back he said his guarantee only cover genetic defects. I was lucky I found here a member who got Gucci's littermate and he also got ringworm and coccidia and the guy returned to her $300. So when I contacted the Guy again he then told me that he find out after I got Gucci that the pups had the ringworm, and since I knew he gave a refund, he refunded me $200. WOw, I guess I got out of topic. |
Duncan was a rescue - he had an awful early life poor babe, we were his 7th home and he was only 6-8 months old. |
A Danish breeder who breeds all kinds of terriers for show and family, but specializes in Yorkies. She and her husband have this great big farm a few hours south of here where they keep the dogs. I love going to that place - they love the dogs so much and are so proud to show them all :) |
Toto came from a show breeder [Tyava] and was such a perfect little angel! We just wanted a healthy pet and that's exactly what she was! In less than two years we have managed to turn her into a chubby, spoiled rotten little angel brat!! ;) Yep, Miss Prissy Paws has pretty much "rocked our world!!" |
my little chica 1 Attachment(s) Poochie was an 'accident'! LOL Her 'breeder' actually breeds toy yorkies and orange pomeranians separately... but somehow, when nobody was looking, her itty bitty yorkie stud got with her 9 lb pom and had one of the most adorable "oops" litters I had ever seen! So now, I have an orange yorkie with a pom tail. :) |
my bf bought nala from what i thought to be a "small breeder" than breed on ocassion but after a week and and 3 vet bills later it became quite clear that the lady was nothing more than a backyard breeder trying to make money. I have no idea what nala's living conditions were since she was a surprise. |

She is very cute! Adorable, actually. That tail is something else. If you could clone your baby or reproduce it, you could make a lot I bet! Did the other pups from the litter look like yours? |
litter mates SoCal, Actually, there were five little girls and one boy (he was already pre-adopted) in the litter and half were fuzzy, orange fluffballs like Poochie. The others had wavy, darker grayish yorkie fur. I never got a chance to see Poochie's litter mates all grown up, but I'm sure they are little dolls now, just like her. ;) |
Pixie came from a show breeder. I was referred to her by a few members of the YTCA while I was searching. |
Zsa Zsa come from a Montreal breeder . Jade come from a woman who chose to have a Doberman Pinscher and didn't want her anymore . |

Scrappydoo came from a hobby breeder in carlisle,Ia :) |
Stewart is from a breeder in Chicago who breeds only Yorkies. He had two females and one male. Stewie's breeder's brother breeds Papillions and I almost took one of them home! Too much hair! |
Hefner and Chai were both from a Hobby/ breeder=broker here in San Diego. Her grandmother has bred yorkies for 30 years but she is deaf so her granddaughter took care of finding forever home. She took puppies from other hobby breeders and sold them too so Hefner was from a "friend" and Buddha was from her Grandma. I was comfortable with this because hefner was laready neutered because the breeder did not wnat her "line" diluted so to speak and we were given a lot of training on the care and needs of these little guys. Chai came from a hobby breeder in Texas who has parti-yorkies, chocolates and traditional. I spoke to her for several weeks and had to convince her to let me have her. She received hundreds of emails from people wanting her and was even offered more money, but I lucked out and she liked me and picked me for her forever home. She wouldn't let her go until she was 14 weeks and at least 2 lbs and i spoke to her vet who was very professional, very nice, knowledgeable, forthright (she had an inquinal hernia) and raved about the breeder. She flew to me on an airplane and was more thatn we expected in personality and looks! |
2 Attachment(s) OK here's the truth. We got our dog bandit from a pet store. they told us he was from a breeder so we believed him. he was from a puppy mill. we got our new puppy tucker from people who home bred their yorkie, maggie. he is the sweetest dog ever!!!!! |
;) We got Ayrwen our first from a hobby breeder that breeds only Yorkies. (Maybe a little more than hobby). They are in rual Missouri. We got our second female Galadriel from them too. They both have been very healthy. They were very helpful and supportive. :aimeeyork Our male we purchased frorm a hobby breeder also a lot smaller scale than than the one the girls came from. We just have three right now. :animal-sm |
Hobby Breeder My bf and I bought Harley from a hobby breeder in Hagerstown Maryland about an hour from where we live. We wanted a local breeder who loved their babies as much as we do and we got it! The family was awesome and all helped to raise their 3 litters they had. We totally lucked out getting our darlin Harley bc his litter was an accident! Their male Scooter was such a lazy bum that he wouldn't even jump onto their couch but he jumped a waist high fence to get to his girlfriend Molly!lolv :luvu: So that's how Harley and his siblings came to be! I love him so much! :heart to |
Our first Yorkies came from a show breeder; Our last yorkie==well we bred him ourselves; Jerry |
