How old were your Yorkies before they were totally housebroken? I would like to know what the average ages are for most Yorkies before they become pottytrained!

Mine will be six in July and she knows where she is suppose to go but she doesn't do it. She usually pees outside 1-3 times a day and goes inside the rest:rolleyes: .

skoshi is almost 6 months and he will go to the door and wait. He wont pee inside unless we dont see him at the door and he waits there forever. He wont make a noise he will just go to the corner of the door and sit there. so sometimes we miss him.

Millie was 6.5 -7 months old. I got her when she was 12 wks old. So it took about 3-4 months. She is 100% housebroken. I never trained her on papers. She was strictly trained to go outside. and I spent every moment of every second on the training issue. It was my #1 priority. Everything else was secondary to that until she got the hang of it. I also did not give her free run of the house. She was sequestered to an x-pen, crate or one room and it was the room I was in!

see i dont use crates or anything. Skoshi has free fun except when we are at work then he is kept in the master bedroom. He never uses the bathroom while we are gone. I understand the whole crate thing but i dont like it myself. just saying i wouldnt do it. BUT i just kept all my time in going outside. and if he used it in the house we would make him smell it then make him follow us to the door and take him outside. so thats how he knows you just have to be persistent.

I'm still struggleling with this, they still go inside :(
I let them have a pp pad inside we also go outside, but they still have accidents...they refuse to poop on the pp pad
Do you think it has anything to do with their weight Marley is 3.9 and Leeloo around 3.5 pounds......how many hours can they really hold it when they are this small?

i mean i used pp pads at the very beginning and he maybe peed on them 2 times and thats all. and i mean like seriously ever like 20 mins you need to take him outside to see. be persistent and tell him outside. when i say skoshi you need to go outside he knows. i want to get a doggy doorbell or soemthing he can ring to let me know when he is at the door tho. but dont expect them to use the pp pads dont rely on that. rely on you taking them as ofter as you think to go outside.

I am having the same problem as you. Although my dog is only 13 weeks old, I have had her for about 3 weeks and not once has she made #2 on the peepads. Going #1 is not an issue, but she absolutely will not go poop on the pads.

Both of my boys were 6-9 months old when they finally got it. There were a lot of hits and misses before then, and a lot of frustration. Someone told me once that a pup cannot fully control his bladder until 6 mos of age, and I have to say that I saw a big difference after 6 mos.

For those of you still struggling with this, it does get better!

Jinny will be 2 in June and she still has accidents.

Jazzy is doing well. He is 7 months old. He is starting to want to mark a little though. I need to get him a belly band bad.

Phew! That's good to know. I am grateful that she's 90% good with the peeing, but I have been trying everything with the pooping. I tried putting a pad where she likes to go poop and another one just for her pee, catching her in the act and whisking her over to the pad, but she likes to make #2 as soon as my head is turned away! I can see all the signs of her wanting to go, but she will hold it until no one is watching. Is this normal???

Cozy has been 100% housebroken since 6 months of age. She is outside more than inside most days though. Everytime she goes to the door someone lets her out even if she only can in two minutes prior. I have heard that small dogs do not have full bladder and bowel control until 2 years of age. Hope this helps.

Joey has been fully housebroken since he was 4.5 months. He's so good.

lexi is 2 years old. she pottys outside when i walk her.. she pottys
on my deck on a wee pad, she pottys in her room on the wee pad and
she pottys right on the rug in the living room whenever she feels like it...
soooooooooooo, i guess she will never be 100 % potty trained unless i
pull that rug up and we shall see.. i doubt it though

do you want your pup pp pad trained or outside

I am the lucky one I guess, don't want to brag...but Winston has been trained to go potty outside literally since the day I brought him home...8 weeks old!!! I know he's amazing, I took him outside, before I took him inside my house that very first day, I heard this suggestion from a well known dog trainer in town. And it worked for me...never let him set foot, or should I say paw, in the house until he pottied outside...praise...persistence... patience...and never freedom to roam around inside til he did his thing outside. He's an awful smart dog, I can't even believe how fast he learns.

That is amazing! I've never heard of a puppy potty trained at 8 weeks. Have you considered cloning Winston?? I'd like one please...:)

That is funny...But really, I had a horrible time training his big brother Spencer(not really related)...I didn't think he'd ever get it, but I persisted, and won!!! So even before I got Winston I was so prepared for battle...my husband and I kept thinking this is a dream...He learned so fast...He's 3 years old now, and I really don't remember him having a single accident. Of course I paid very close attention to him, and never really gave him too much freedom to "go" so to speak...I know that if there comes a time and I get another, I'll do exactly as I did with Winston...OUTSIDE FIRST...POTTY...THEN AND ONLY THEN will he touch carpet...Good luck everybody with the potty training!!!

Rhapsody was completely trained by the time she was 4 months old. Tiger is over a year, he's pretty much trained, but I'll have to confess sometimes he will have an accident. :)

I had second thoughts about posting to this thread... the last time i posted about this I got slammed bad! Someone even had the nerve to say there is no such thing as a perfect yorkie!! " I dont remember ever saying I had a perfect yorkie... But oh well!

Anyways, I got Penny when she was 9 weeks old, and she was 100% potty trained by the time she was 12 weeks old. I guess some dogs just catch on quicker than others I dont know what the secret is. But she was just an exceptional PUP... she never chewed on anything and only peed on the carpet twice she pooped on the carpet about 6 times but then she had the dreaded diarrea.
So I consider myself very fortunate to have had such an easy time with her.

So happy to hear this...I thought maybe I really was dreaming, but yes I do believe I was fortunate with Winston in that respect...but I'll do it the same way again, and I try to suggest to others to do the same. They have to know it's OK to potty OUTSIDE and then they will...

Stedman was completely and totally potty trained when he was 4 months old. He is now 15 months and NEVER and I mean NEVER has an accident in the house. He is so smart and learns pretty much ANYTHING extremely quickly.

Tatum is a little over 6 and 1/2 months old and is doing VERY well with her potty training...she is nearly (well, basically) trained but still has a *few* accidents here and there once in a blue moon ;)

I got Conner when he was 9 weeks old. He was pee pee pad trained when we got him. He always went on the pads. Hubby and I decided it was time for him to go outside. We picked up the pads and took him outside when we thought he should go. He went when we took him outside, but he also went on the floor where his pad used to be.

He was no completely trained until he was 9 months old.

Now he never has a mistake. He will wait at the stairs for us to take him potty.

My yorkie is about nine weeks old and he is already pottytrained. i bought these training drops to put where you want him/her to go and he/she will sniff the area and know where to go.

When I got my lil Izzie at 10 weeks she was pretty much trained to go outside...however, since I am gone during the day and she is indoors in a playpen in the kitchen (can't leave her outside due to hawks/crows) she is also learning to use a potty pad...she is doing great with the pottypad in the playpen...gets it everytime... :) Then during the evenings while I'm home and she has the run of the downstairs, she has two potty pads in place for her and is learning to use those...she still has a few accidents where she is so close...but just missing the pad, but she is in the general area.... I also have carpet strips in my garage by my washer/dryer and work bench and when I am in the garage she will relieve herself there instead of going inside....oh well, better in the garage then on my carpet indoors. She is learning...and so far doing well....She is learning that going on the potty pads in the living room will get her a yorkie yummy...and she is quickly catching on to this as she does sooooooo love her yorkie yummies...She is also still doing quite well with the going outdoors also....She is now 17 weeks old (4 months) and I think she is doing quite well for still being so young...In a few weeks I will be home with her all day...(work for a school district so I have my summers off) :D :D I'm hoping that we will have time to get the potty training down so that I can let her go upstairs with me....

Housebroken? They're supposed to be housebroken?:eek: Just kidding- sort of. Gracie was 100% potty pad trained at 4 months. We moved when she was 6 months and had some set backs and started training her outside. She was probably 99% housebroken by a year old and that's as good as it got. She'll have an accident in the houde once in a blue moon if no one is home. I got Sugar at 17 months and I'm still having some problems. He was never taken outside so he is scared to death of grass. He uses his potty pad in a litter box but also uses my kitchen rugs. He was 2 in Feb. so I guess that means I've given up. Spike was hopeless- he's in a belly band.

Buddy was 5months old and completely trained. He was 14 1/2 wks when I brought him home. He picked up the idea really fast.
He has not had a accident since. He is now 3yrs old.

Bella was 6-8 months old....
Diggy goes where he wants when he wants he is 13 weeks and not to promising on the training thing. :confused:

I adopted Fritzel when he was 2 years old and he was not housebroken. It took a while but I think he has the hang of it now.
