Free-feed or scheduled? Is your yorkie free-fed or fed on a schedule? |
free feed:) |
We used to free feed, because Kensington was always a "snacker". However, we've had to switch to scheduled feeding, because Paddington never lost all her pregnancy weight and is still a pound or so over-weight. Since they aren't as young and energetic as they used to be, we had to put them on a lite food and less of it at the recommendation of our Vet. The puppies do fine on the schedule - we just have to make sure our bigger one doesn't over-eat while our tiniest is getting enough. It seems to be working better now than the free feed. |
I free feed i guess i just don't get how to not do it lol i have 2 cats that eat the dog food so i never know who eats it lol |
free feed |
We free feed..seems to work well for us... Dawn |
I feed her canned food morning and evening, but she has kibble available at all times:animal-pa |
Their Kibble is free feed. Breakfast is 1/6 can each of food with their missing link mixed in. |
I free fed Dior until i took her to puppy sch and found out it wasn't best. so now she eats 6 am and 6pm and so does her brother.:animal-pa |
I free feed leave the kibbles out all day since i work i leave enough so if he get's hungry during the day he can eat from it. |
There's no such thing as free feed at our house. If I put dry food in the dishes - they eat it right then and there. So it's a little dry food in the morning and their main meal around 3 or 4pm - I like to feed them early so they can digest and whatever before bedtime. Works for us. |
i always have food and water out for my babies |
Always scheduled! This way I know exactally what my dog is eating. All my dogs have always looked forward to breakfast and dinner with jest and have cleaned up everything in their dish. I can rest knowing they have their daily food intake and nutrition in them. Treats are free feed daily. |
Miko (my yorkie) is free fed dry food (prescription for his liver issues)...Emma (my maltese) I feed Merrick canned mixed with Merrick dry food 2x a day. They get little snacks throughout the day...Yogurt, apples(peeled and cut), banana(for Emma), etc. I am working on starting homecooking for both of them, but with Miko's condition, a LOT of research is involved...So it will be a little while before I implement this, but when I do switch over....Meals will have to be scheduled... |
We switched from scheduled to free feed when the new puppy arrived. But, we will go back to scheduled feeding soon. Scheduled meals help owners monitor pet's intake and realize if something is wrong. Helps regulate potty times too!! |
free feeder |
I feed my lab on a schedule and I PREFER to do it that way, but Hootie and Hobbs refuse to eat on a schedule. So, to prevent a hypoglocemic attack, I free feed them and let them eat when they want to. |
Winston is fed on a schedule, cuz of hypoglycemia I leave kibble out for him all the time. And yes, plenty of treats throughout the day, has been about a month since his last "seizure", ever since I started canned food twice daily, morning and night. But with that he is gaining toooooo much weight, he was at the vets today, 8.1lbs. Does anyone know, does the "light" food have enough in it to keep his sugar up, and his weight down. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle... |
We schedule feed. I like this method since I know exactly how much each of my girls eat. I even supervise (it takes all of 1 minute) so I can tell if one is not eating to let me know something is wrong. Plus, they poop on schedule. No ant problems (huge problem in So. Cal.) and they get soooooo dang excited when I ask if it's Breakfast time or Dinner time! If I forget they let me know too. |
Their Kibble is free feed and mid day I mix up cottage cheese, missing link, and a little wet evangers (or other wet) + salmon oil(VERY VERY LITTLE OF EACH) |
Scheduled feeding. It works better for us to have them on a schedule. :aimeeyork |
Mine are free fed. |
Free feed the Yorkies, the other two though, are on feeding schedules ;) |
I free feed. I heard they are less likely to have food aggression issues if it is available at all times. Plus I just wouldnt want them to get hungary and not have anything available to them. Some days I eat more or less then other days so they probably do too. I also give them some variety as I think they get tired of the same thing all the time so I usually have at least 2 different kinds available on the floor all the time. They also get occasional treats but not all the time. Fresh clean water is also always readily available. |
I too free feed. Kibble is available at all times. I don't want any hypoglycemia episodes. Have read a lot about it. Thats why I like this forum. Very informative. |
We free feed here. |
I feed mine on a schedule but mostly it is for my conveince. |
Free feed because Conner likes to decide when he eats. He does not like to eat when he gets up - likes to wait an hour and I have to go to work. My sister comes in to feed lunch, and he just picks at his dinner. |
Kibble i free feed his canned i give him half in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. |
The kids are on a scheduled feeding. They know when it's time to eat before I do. |
| All times are GMT -8. The time now is 05:44 PM. |
