I would never do it. I'm not so worried about someone snatching them because they are usually in the back yard (with one of us) and no one can see them but, we have had a fox in our yard a couple of times...not to mention we have hawks and owls lurking around. I just dont' want to take that chance.And,....as soon as I start to walk away from them they HAVE to be with me...I don't think they would want to be outside with out one of us with them. |
Yuki is never outside by herself, Gracie (our 70lb lab/rot mix) always is out there with her. I am usually outside with them, but sometimes my boyfriend will leave the back door open for them and they are out there by themselves. I never let them outside at night (only just to go to the bathroom) for fear of coyotes. |
we let ours out in the backyard all the time to run around. |
Can I say once again that I'm sooo thankful for living in a country with no dangerous fauna? My two have access to a cat flap when I'm not here and on a warm evening I'll leave the back door open. Usually after about 5 minutes Dixie starts barking - I think she like her voice echo round the hills - so they get called inside again. My back yard is fully fenced all over 5 foot and very private so i have no worries about human predators. |
I NEVER leave mine outside unattended. Even though they only go in the backyard, and it IS fenced in, I still watch them when they are out there and they never go out alone. Not to mention, there has been a HUGE owl lately perched up on one of the light post that is in the back of my house - and there is no WAY I'm risking anything! |
Mine are NEVER left alone, even though my backyard is about 1/3 of an acre and completely fenced in, I refuse to risk it! I don't even let them off of their leashes in my backyard when I'm with them. I always think about what if they run up to a bush and there is a snake there and it bites them or what if something has dug some kind of hole and they are running back there and one of their legs falls in it, or what if they fall in the underground pool  The only place I let them go unleashed "outside" is my patio out back. It is all screened in and the top has a huge sunroof so the sun can shine right in and they actually have their own doggy playground in there with little hoops and things they can climb through, a little area full of those beany pillows that they can jump in and and a little swimming pool that I fill up for them for when it's hot. They LOVE going out there and it is 100% safe    and 99% of the time when they are out there I'm out there too just because it is SO much fun to watch them play! :p |
NEVER, there are too many wild animals that prey on little furbabies around here. They go in the back fenced yard to potty and right back in and I am with them the whole time. They get plenty of romp time in the house plus their walks so I don't see the point in taking a chance and leaving them unsupervised. Too scary. |
There are so many hawks in the area here...that isn't an option for us. |
I live in Queens NY, are you kidding? LOL. But recently I saw a Yorkie alone in the backyard over where I live, Unless I live somewhere in the suburbs with a fenced-in yard (I'm talking a 6-foot privacy fence all around) I wouldn't do it. And if, I'd still keep an eye on Pepper from the inside. |
I would have voted "Never" but I'm guilty of occasionally taking my potty breaks the same time Ging does, lol. But just for a few seconds! My backyard is fenced and then the area she's let out onto is fenced as well. Still, I will not leave her unattended for more than two minutes because I'm afraid she'll get stolen or a coyote will get her. |
The only 2 times i left them un attended they got out of the yard and ran to the front door (thank god). So from then on they have never been out of my sight |
My mom and dad have two yorkies that go in and out as they please while my parents are there. My parents have a large fenced in back yard and her Yorkies are a little on the heavy side. Where as my baby is 2.5 lbs and I live on the outside of town where the BIG birds have free range. So I could not let him go out side alone in fear something might happen.:) </IMG> |
I would maybe consider leaving her alone outside if we had a backyard she could run in, but we have a pool, and I'm too afraid she'd fall in! So, we take her to the front yard for exercise, and we put her on a long lead so she can run and not get away. When she's out there, we NEVER leave her unattended! |
I am lucky in that here in England we have no preditors to harm our babies. My back garden is completely fenced off with a solid gate that we can lock so Ellie is out of sight at all times when she is in the garden. On nice days we leave the back door open so the dogs can wander in and out as they like.It is lovely to see Ellie zooming round the house and garden |
It's funny that this thread came back up, Cuz last night my husband and I were outside with Winston, and this HUGE hawk type bird, just soared down, and I swear it was aiming for Winston. Well I ran out in the yard and grabbed him, and the bird flew away, but it made me think of this. Cuz I answered, "yes" but only a few minutes at a time...just imagine what could have happened in "a few minutes", I was scared to death. So now I want to change my answer to NO NEVER. I really thought before this, that my yard was safe for him, totally fenced in, and in town only 1 house away from the Main Street with great neighbors. But who'd of thought this humongous bird would be there...not me. |
