ideal yorkie weight: a poll? If you could only have one Yorkie and you could pick its weight in advance, what would it be? |
I chose 5 pounds. Not too big and not to small. The perfect weight in my opinion. Scampers is 5 pounds and I love his size. |
Well Britain is 3 months old tomorrow and she is already 3 pounds!! So I think she will get to about 6 (maybe). I wonder if it could just be puppy growth and it will slow as she gets a bit older. Either way I dont care. She is a doll no matter what size she gets. |
bumparooni ("bump" didn't have enough characters to count as a message, lol) |
Pippa is 8lb and this i think is a good weight! I know its over the breed standard but she is just a little more robust than the smaller ones but still small enough to carry |
I said 8lbs also. Still a very small dog, but not too fragile that I have to hover over him and worry all the time. Baxter is 12 lbs and he is a really sturdy little guy, but sometimes a bit heavy to carry. But I'd say 8 lbs is ideal. |
I have the ideal Yorkie and he weighs 12 lbs! Not what I started out wanting (weight wise), but Joey couldn't be any closer to perfect. God, I love that dog! |
I chose 5 lbs...not too big, not to small and perfect size for me. |
I would like Buddy to be around 8lbs. I would be to afraid to have a dog much smaller than that. He turned out to be 13lbs. but when he was that weight I thought it was perfect. However, so is 13lbs. I like the bigger Yorkies better than the little ones. It's to scary to me to have something so small.:yorkiesar Carol & Buddy:aimeeyork |
I like the 5 lb range only because they all fit on my lap at the same time. poor Ahia has to sit beside me when the others are all on the lap. she tries tho. when traveling in the RV I made a platform to lay on my lap so they could all have a seat together. they loved it. |
I choose 5 pounds, but anywhere between 5 and 6 is good. They're not so delicate as the tiny ones and yet small enough to carry around. But I think a large one would be fun to have especially for a family. |
I chose 6 lbs but 5 lbs would be fine but no smaller and no larger. My lap is only so big!:D |
I have a 5 and a 6 pounder and they are both perfect:D |
I like 5 lbs. But I think the ideal is anywhere between 4 to 6 lbs. |

I think the "ideal" yorkie would be in the breeds standards, 7 pounds and under and personally I like the smaller ones in the 4-5 pound range. |
Wow, it's looking like a perfect bell curve centered at 5 pounds. I guess that's about what I was suspecting. We love them in all shapes and sizes! |
I chose 4 lbs. That is what my little guy weighs and he is the perfect size for us - exactly what we wanted ;) BUT - then again, I'd also love a 3 lb'er - I know that is EXTREMELY small to some - but I like the little guys :p Although, I DO have a hard enough time as it is with Stedman being under my feet all the time  I am always afraid I am going to step on him... |
I think 7-8 lbs is a good size. |
I like the 4-6 pouind range. Tiny but not to tiny. Even thought the most beautiful yorkie I've ever seen was 10 pounds and had the most gorgeous coat and "babydoll" face I have ever seen! So to be honset, I'm more concerned with a great coat a face then size:p |
I said 6lbs - but, just because there was no in-between :D . Abbie is 6lbs (maybe a tad over). |
I choose 7lbs. That is how much my little boy weighs and I couldn't imagine another yorkie being more perfect than him! :) |
I couldnt choose.... my Tootie is 16 lbs, GIANT.... my Hopey is 4 1/2 lbs... I love them both and for different reasons their sizes are the best! tootie is a rough-houser and I cannot imagine him being any smaller(his best wrestling buddy is my 95 lb lab) Hopey is SOOOO SPOILED, it would be hard if she were any bigger, I have to carry her everywhere I go. I love them.... just the way they are! d |
Just weight? I'd go w/ a proportionate 5 pounder. |
I have four all with different weights. Newman is 12 lbs. Bella is nine pounds, Noel is (HUH) 16 pounds, and Tia is only 3 pounds. Having such a range I'd have to go with five pounds being ideal although I have to tell you I love Tia at three pounds because I can take her everywhere. I didn't go out of my way to get a little one this small but I am enjoying it:) Merry Christmas everyone. Elaine |
Thank you Alaska Yorkie! I appreciate this thread. It is great to hear from so many with "larger" yorkies. I love my solid pup and I am glad to know that I am not alone in loving the wonder of her, no matter her size. Now I want her to be as beautiful as Carley and Terra Boo! |
I agree as well. This was a great thread. I was a little worried when i found out that my pup was going to be a larger yorkie, but now hearing others with big puppies. I am just looking forward to her growing up and us bonding more and having tons of fun for many years. She is just a doll baby no matter what size she is. Happy Christmas!!!! |

But there is definitely no wrong answer to this poll. They are perfect in all sizes. |
I have one that is 4 and two that are 7 so i think 5 would be goood. right in the middle.. |
DooDah is 7 lbs and we like that weight. It seems what ever size your Yorkie is, is the size you like. I guess the important thing is that they are healthy at whatever weight. |
