How Much Did Your Yorkie Cost? How much did your Yorkie(s) cost?? I wonder what the average price is. I know prices are going up drastically in NY and I'm just curious what we all generally paid. :p You can select multiple numbers if you have more then one Yorkie. PS - This poll is private -- so no one will see your results. :) |
Yes, I agree with you. Vets are also very high in NY. I would love to have another but the vet bills scare me. Especially the unexpected. Pet insurance is a must and that is $300.00 a year. I envy those who have 2,3 and more. I have no idea how they do it. This post should be very interesting. Carol |
Vets are so expensive in Brooklyn. I have 2 dogs and I'm bringing home my 3rd dog in November. I have an "emergency" credit card with a zero balance just for my dogs -- I never charge anything on it. It's strictly for my babies in case (god forbid) emergency vet care is ever needed. |
I have the same card but never used it. When Buddy became very sick and was hospitalized in 09/05 for four days the bill was $2,000.00. No real diagnosis! Thought maybe poison or perhaps a nylabone. They found gritty material in the lower intestine. They were not sure what caused his sickness. I paniced about the $. They told me about the card you mentioned and I opened it but deceided to take money from a retirement fund instead. I didn't want the added bill to worry about. I honestly can say I did not spend $2,000.00 on the two dogs I had for 16 and 17 years respectfully. Once a year to the vet and that was it! They were never sick. I only had Buddy for less than a year and this happened. Thank heavens he is fine today and no more nylabones of anykind for him. Always expect the unexpected! |

My credit card is not for yearly vaccines or routine colds. I am saving it for something serious -- like what if Codie was diagnosed with heart disease and immediately needed rush surgery that same day?? I'd charge it all and not have to worry about paying for it on top of worrying about Codie's recovery. What can I say? I worry a lot. :p :p |
I only paid 1000. I got 200 off scent I got my bunny from the same breeder |
Thiis is a very interesting thread. I do wish somehow the price paid could be paired with other characteristics though, such as how much for what you consider show quality or how much you paid for your 3 pound baby or your 14 pound teapot. I guess that would be pretty hard to do, huh? |
i paid $650 |
I paid 500 for issabella and 1500 for nicki |

WOW! seems like most members paid around the $500.00 mark! Wish I lived where you are! I paid $1000.00 for Sadie and $1300.00 for Lillie. The litter that Lillie came from the males were being sold for $1000.00 and females $1600.00 I got 300.00 off because she was the second pup I bought from this breeder. Out this way Yorkies tend to be up there in price and, these are not show quality... |
ok jen, expensive, i paid $ 2000.00 for lexi. now thats expensive, but i didnt care.. |
I paid: $1,000 for Codie $1,200 for Katie $1,600 for Tia Plus I'm getting Cali in November (yay!!) :D But the price of my dogs is nothing compared to the love they give me -- I would have definitely paid more for them! |
I wish I they sold yorkies in the $500 range around here...You'd never see one for that price in NY...I paid $1,100 for Lady |
I paid $1750.00 for Josie...worth every penny. :D I love that my kids have a pet. :) I never did growing up. I just wish I could save enough to get Josie a brother or sister ;) ;) |
Both of my yorkies were $1,100, from two different breeders in Connecticut. :aimeeyork |
I paid 800, do I get to add in the roughly 6000 I've put into him in the past year for liver shunt surgerys and tests because I got him from an uncaring crappy breeder? I am just a little bitter about it. Not all the breeders fault though, I didn't do my homework before I bought him, but I think God wanted me to have him so I could save him. I don't regret a single cent! He's my boy! |
I paid $800.00 for Josie and she was 6 months old. |
I paid $5000.00 and I do not regret it at all. Stella is a stunning very well bred girl. I waited one year and I had to answer so many questions from the breeder for her but I was pleased to finally obtain her. :) |
He is lucky to have a mom like you! :) Quote:

I paid $1,000 for Ferdinand in Phoenix, AZ. Seemed to be about the going rate. Some were less (but not breeders that I would wish to purchase from), and some were more (but seemed to be breeders that were in it for the money). Plus I bought the Puppy Wellness plan at PetSmart which is $99 downpayment and $20/month... so $339 for his first year, but it covers getting him fixed and all his shots and checkups. |
I paid a lot for mine too but I didn't realize they went for more in New York, I live in michigan now but on my last trip in, I stopped at Puppy Petite in Brooklyn, and came home with Sissy. (My Gramma is 97, senile & she went with me, talked me into Sissy and asked me to buy 10!) Anyway, I wanted to ask any of you if you have heard of Puppy Petite (they have a web site) and if so, is that considered to be a puppy mill? I asked them and they said no but I am concnerned for many reasons (how Sissy acts most important of the reasons) but also because I didn't notice until driving away, she did not get her declaws off, nor her tail docked! When I questioned it, they said my agreement did say, for pet use, not for show quality. and it did say that, I don't know how I missed seeing her tail, do I hang a little flag on it now? I don't dare get it docked now-i would think it will hurt really bad as she is 7 months. Well I didn't mind spending the money on either of them, I did mind getting taken twice! My next one will only be purchased from a Yorkie Talker Breeder!!! But I love them both:) |
Starsky was $500 from a first time litter. I didn't know enough about yorkies as to what to look for. He is at 10lbs now and has long legs!! But he has the best personality I could ever get in a dog!! His sisters were smaller, I think he was a fluke because he passed his parents up,. Shylah was more. I got her at $850. Different breeder. I had told the breeder that I wanted something smaller than Starsky, more in the 5 to 6 lb range and I wanted a girl. What she had was a female that may get to 4 lbs if I am lucky. I was stupid again and bought her site unseen, didn't see the parents or where she lived. But she turns out to be pretty cute and tiny! She looks more yorkie to me then Starsky because she doesn't have the curly hair like Starsky does. She is almost 6 months now and weighs a little over 3 lbs. Both were bought in two different parts of Kansas. I wouldn't trade either one of them for the world!! |
I paid $500 for Mojo.......he is from a show family and well bred. I too had to answer so many questionaires about my family, and just about everything else. I bought him "unseen" in person, but was sent pictures from birth until he was big enough to bring home. I don't regret anything from that experience. And of course, he is worth so much more......and I have spent $1000s on spoiling him. He has always been healthy (expect for one tummy issues - that was food related, Greenies), but I have a very reasonable and wonderful vet! |
I do not know the kennel. But I would like to answer the part of the tail. Many European countried do not dock Yorkies tail anymore. I have heard that some breeders do not dock tail anymore also here in the States. My Stella has long tail and I love it!!! It stands like a flag. Her breeder lives in California but she is European and she shows her dogs here and there, she is not docking her Yorkies tail anymore. Quote:

I think Starsky is a doll! Quote:

Thanks 1 Attachment(s) Thanks Jenn218, We think he is a doll too. I need to get my avitar changed where Shylah is in it too. Here is a pic. of them both! |
I paid $850 for Hobbs and $900 for Hootie. They are brother and sister (although Hootie is from a subsequent litter) from the same breeder here in Alabama. |

Thanks I feel knowing this:) , she is a total sweet heart but hard to love at first (unlike Chloe) it was like she was never held by humans before or fed enuf, kind of like she was left to fend for herself as a baby and she did not like me loving on her or holding her at all. She is now learning that petting in my lap is fun but she acts like she is starved for food, love & petting now that she knows what they are. I am concerned but it is nothing life threatening. |

How adorable:) , don't you just love it when they pose together. Mine are just starting to but before I had to track them down and the pictures never came out good, unless they were taken separately |
