I don't like Shih Tzu, a lot of them have very bad smell...they are not smart at all. (on tests yorkies sooo much smarter than shih tzu). |

Well if she wants an intelligent breed, she should choose a Poodle or a Bichion Frise. Even though they're not intelligent, people still have them as pets..and continue to love them to pieces. |

Poodle - numer 2 yorkies - number 27 (stil good for toy breeds) Bishons - number 45 shi tzu in the and of the list number 70 By the way, many dog trainers told me that yorkies are very smurt, and one of the smarties toy breed. Quote:

brains The lists I found say..number one is a Border Collie and Poodles are 2.. Yorks are 27 and considered quite intelligent..I find them to be smart as can be.. very self-willed and hard-headed...a perfect match for me. LOL Health-wise, they are considered the hardiest of the toy breeds...I have seen this in pups. Pom and Maltese breeders tell me they can go to bed at night and all is well..get up and find a dead pup even into 8 to 12 weeks..something I do not find happens much in Yorks... |

For some odd reason, I'm not convinced. |
Why not? :) Well, anyway i belive in every breed there are very smart individuals and very stuped as well. best example is my airdale terrier. We got airdalle because we heard from many people they are the smartiest dogs (and i saw many of them...it was unviliblle how smart they are). But oiur girl isnot intelegent at all :( |

poor thing, but I have a Maltese and a Poodle..and they do things on their own without me telling them to. I love how they clean up after themselves. My Maltese has taught herself how to open the door! So saying that Malts are dumb..I think it's BS. |
I never heard anything bad about malts. I think they are great dogs... good combo witha yorkie (yorkie very hypers and malt calm down). But many people say it about Shi Tzu... |
I am a new yorkie mommy. I bought whiskey for my husband's birthday in may. He wanted a man's dog but when i saw her sweet face i fell in love. We also have a chihuahua and a daschund/rat terrier mix and i would have to say that they are the smartest dogs i have ever owned. Sweet Pea is my youngest daughter's doggie and she sleep with her every night and would guard us with her life. Harley is the mix and she belongs to my oldest daughter and she will do all kinds of tricks to have her belly rubbed-she is very intelligent and very sweet. What is sad is that my vet told me that Sweet Pea is getting cataracts. I bought her when my husband got sent to Iraq because we needed someone to snuggle on while he was fighting in Iraq. I'm just rambling on but just thought i would let you know that those types of dogs are very loyal and loving. |
Any Decision Yet????? |

Ok guys we are currently researching the maltese and s**tzu breeds, hopefully then when we have learnt a little more about them we will decide which one we think will suit our household and family! thanks to everyone for voting and posting info, your all so great! and i will post pics as soon as i get a new baby! To everstgirl(sp?) The kind of qualities i like in a dog, are good temperment, socialable, inquisitvie and fairly intelligent (basically a yorkie then:p ) lol |
Thank you, he is a blue merle. I had never seen one before and we fell in love with him as soon as we seen him. My dear hubby bought him for me for Valentines Day, he came all the way from Oklahoma on a plane. That was a day I will never forget, very special for the whole family. Of course both of my babies are special in their own way. I am glad you liked the pictures.:) |

Definitely a YORKIE first! I wish I had gotten a Yorkie years ago! I did vote for the Papillon (sp) because they are so cute and remind me of a Yorkie/Chihuahua (for some reason). A small Poodle is up there high on my list too. (don't shed or smell, cute and cuddly). I had a Shih-tzu for a few years....that is a cute breed, but he was pretty sickly - course, I heard that about Poms too though. (and each individual pet will be different). Maltese are so adorable too, but boy, they get dirty and tear stains all the time! (the red looking kind of stains). I've never heard of a Maltese or Shih-tzu eating their own poop - I have friends with maltese and Shih-tzu (and then the one I had) and no problems with that. If it is a big dog you are wanting, I like the German Shepards because they are very smart and loyal and easy grooming. Golden Retrievers are up there too, but they require lots of grooming. I am partial to labs, but they are hyper, but easy to train. Course, I think with any pet, it is what you and your partner BOTH agree on and like. Plus, once you go and look at each individual pup and breed, there might be certain areas that rate higher than others. I think that normally when you are buying a dog, you don't find them, they find you! :) |
My first dog was a Blue Merle Collie . Her name was Lark . |
