It WAS A pain cause when we knew he was coming over ....I'd have to go take the girls to my job and hang out there till he left - Oh....and we had to HIDE the poops in the yard...now THAT was big fun ! :D |

I've always owned my own home, so I have't had this problem...but I would though, if I lived someplace that didn't allow animals. I am a HUGE animal lover - any kind! Now, I have taken my little guy in places that didn't allow pets. I normally use a "sneak" bag and have only gotten caught once. I personally think that we all keep our furbabies in perfect health and very clean, so most of the time, they are cleaner then the places that won't let them in! |
I love these polls! It's so funny how many people hide their pets! LOL :D I lived in an apartment that I absolutely LOVED, but I couldn't understand why I was so depressed...in such misery. I needed a dog and I needed it bad. That was what I was missing. I lived in an apartment building that was very strict on NO PETS and NO SMOKERS. Well, I got Monkey. He never barked and he was so tiny. Problem was that I couldn't train him to "go" outside. My landlord and building manager both lived on the property (and my neighbor and I didn't get along), so I couldn't risk them seeing me. I couldn't have a litter box, that would be a pain to hide if they had to come in for anything...which was ALWAYS! Monkey was usually with me during the day, so I didn't have to really worry about him (I have this great little doggie bag...can't even tell). When my lease was up, I hustled to find a new apartment that would accept pets...so hard to find in L.A. I ended up taking this overly crazy expensive apartment (over twice the amount I paid before) that I don't like that charges me pet rent on top of it. I miss my awesome apartment, but in the end, it's all worth it ;) I am at peace because I have fur baby love! I wouldn't trade it for the world!! :luvu: |
I got my cat when I was in a college dorm room. My roommate and I would have to hide her, and all of her things, every month when maintenance came knocking on the door! |
We use to call my old landlord "The yard natzi". She would come every Saturday morning at 6am with her leaf blower and blow off the driveway and back deck. It was awful!!! Anyway, in the lease it said no pets and she was anal about it. I got Gracie about 2 years after we moved in. I never hid it from her and she never said anything. She even gave me my full deposit back when we moved out. |
I don't have a yorkie so i couldn't join for the poll... I haven't give up about getting a yorkie.. so I am putting it on hold until I find a home that allows dogs... and I am waiting on litter from this particular breeder... so planning planning planning.. I thought about it so many times to get a yorkie at my current apartment that doesn't allow dogs.. but I couldn't do it after all!!! |
Landlords have a reason for their rules. They own the property and they have the financial responsibility to keep the property up. If you keep an animal in a no pet location you are stealing from the owner because he/she has to deal with fleas urine feces hair noise complaints from other tenants which takes his/her time (I assume you get paid for your job) Being a landlord is a job and time spent dealing with dishonest tenants takes the landlord away from other earnings. I know you think I'm mean but it may be because you are feeling guilty, I do not know for sure is it? I love all animals. I love my Yorkie, my 10 goats, my 3 birds, and so on. BUT I DON'T HOUSE THEM WHERE I KNOW THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED. IT'S SIMPLY DISHONEST. What about that is so hard to understand? If I get kicked of this site for being honest and stating my feelings like so many others do every day, I'll live, and I'll still call it as I see it. The poll allowed posts and I posted my sincere feelings. |

Thank you. |
i'm afraid i'll have to agree with builder48 on this one. if you know that you are in violation of your rental/lease by having a pet, that is in fact being dishonest and lying about not having a pet, and also very rude to your landlord and fellow tenants. this kind of behavior should not be encouraged yet i feel like this poll seem to invite validation for a clear violation of a legal agreement and the common conscensus is to nevermind the rules, if you can get away with it, then do it. my parents had a rental once where one of the tenants gotten a dog in violation of their rental agreement. my parents were trusting, they never checked. when they moved, their deposit couldn't begin to pay for the carpet replacement and cleaning the yard of dried poop. guess who had to help with the cleaning... yeah... you bet i was annoyed. being an animal lover doesn't mean it's okay to violate rules you don't like at the expense of others. this may not be something you want to hear, but it's the truth. |
Well, I see my post got deleted, so I'll post again with my answer... No, I would never move into a place that does not allow pets. I have a pet. and I wouldn't want to move into a building owned by a landlord who doesn't like animals because I find that most people who don't like animals are jerks. |

When we rented, our apt was initially listed as "no pets", we talked him into allowing us to pay an additional security deposit for "1" cat. Which he did agree to, by the time we moved out and into our house we had 4 cats in that apartment. Our landlord was a major pain in the butt as he would come around snooping while we weren't there. Fortunately for us our cats hid when someone came in so even though there were 4 you were lucky if you saw 1. Plus what also helped us upon moving out we made sure to let him know when we moved the cat out, so he could show the apt as a "no pets" apartment. And when he stopped by our house to return the security deposit, which we recieved in full, he told us that he never had a tenant leave one of his apartments so clean. Desiree |
Never got caught! Just 6 months ago I was living in a "Pet Friendly" Apartment complex, that had a lot of Dogs & Cats, but they were charging a $250.00 non-refundable, so called "Pet Deposit" well multiply that by 2. I was just getting back on my feet and I couldn't afford it......I think my Leasing Agent knew, but she either didn't care or she was just trying to help me out? But there were so many other Dogs that we just kind of blended in, but not really b/c my male Artie, was such a character, he made it a point to know everyone; the other Tenants and their Pets, as well as all of the Maintenance crew. No one ever said anything but they probably couldn't keep track of who paid and who did not? Plus with that kind of confusion around all the time with different Staff? I felt bad and I actually out grew the 1 BD. Apartment, so we are now in a 3 BD House! Right next to a major Dog Park, that I had to commute daily to any way.......I pay the same amount of Rent, but at least I save on Gas! I have a great Landlord, that fell in Love with them so he didn't even charge me a "Pet Deposit"!:aimeeyork |
in austin tx, when I was going to college. I got a dog that is now my dads dog (he feel in love with her when he saw her and talked me into giving her to him, when I was living) and I didnt pay the deposed. it was 350 per pet ...we didnt know it was per pet, till we left to come here thou, we just thought it was a 350 one time pay any how well as soon as I got married my hubby payed the 350 and then got bunny :p.. 5 months later we moved here (germany) My best friend in college had a pit/lab mix pup and a cat and didnt pay either. And she had almost every person that worked in the complex in her APT. Most of them went to college with us thou. so I guess it didnt matter to them:rolleyes: |
