Tibbe Yorkietalks all day - chortling, chirping, woo-wooing, barking, snippy growling(SO cute!) and generally making all types of throat sounds of one kind or another when he wants attention - which is usually 58 minutes out of every 60. First, he throws behaviors - does some of his obedience tricks to get my attention - which usually works every time. Next he presents me with one of his toys or chewies in my hand or lap. But if somehow I do manage to ignore that and he thinks I've ignored him far too long(especially when I'm on YT), he gets righteously hurt, will get down on the floor in front of me and bark earnestly, turning his little head up and to one side, one eye fixated on mine, muzzle pointed upward slightly and letting rip with the barks! Still, he's such a good boy that if I still don't give in to his wants, tell him "Quiet", he gives it up completely, shoots me a cold look over his retreating back and goes down the hall, gets up on the bed with his back to the door and sulks all alone. He knows that gets to me more than anything, knowing he's down in the other part of the house by himself feeling lonely. He demands his time and will take no excuses before the manipulation tactics start - or else I'm given a very cold shoulder - or butt - at that's what I see first when I walk into the bedroom to make up with him. |
I know my three each get their needs 'voiced' differently. Jasmine will paw me gently when she wants her pink blankey, make pig noises when her food bowl is empty and bark at the den door when she wants out. Prissy hangs her head low and looks her saddest when she wants to be loved on. She is the quietest of the three unless the other two causes trouble then she will put everything in order very quickly. Maggie Mae spins like a Tasmanian devil when she wants out to potty, jumps onto my chest when she wants love, when she is talking to her fur-sisters she has to kick her back legs a lot bc she thinks she is in charge....her fur-sisters just thinks she is nuts. Another thing about her that I think is funny........she has never conquered the 'sit' command, but I can shout "Bang" and she will instantly play dead. She is a ham! They each have such different personalities....I just love watching them, so much fun!! |
My babies are opposites. My boy barks for attention and when he hears any noises and my girl is 5 1/2 months and I can honestly say that I don't remember ever hearing her bark only whine to go out from time to time. |
Teddy barks at EVERYTHING all day until he wants to pee or poop then he just stares at me with big eyes, like @@, and gives me 0.5 seconds to get to the door before he promptly deposits on the floor. Go figure:rolleyes: |
Loving these stories! I'm glad we've finally busted these master manipulators! |
Oh yes . .Galen comunicates. He makes little whiny noises when he wants to see me and he is in his xpen. When DBF comes home. He barks. Also I have no idea why. He barks like a crazy dog when we are getting really to go somewhere with him. . Drives me nuts |
General: Max and Teddy perform sits and then stare. They will tap us with their paws first if we are not watching. Max will also present a toy to me and lead me. Sometimes he resorts to talking. He cracks me up when he says "woof" softly like a human. Other times, he sounds like Astro on the Jetsons. Generally, I would say Teddy is like Jillie and lets his sibling do the talking. We imagine Teddy saying in his head, "Yeah, Spike. Yeah, Spike," like the cartoon. For alerts, like the phone ringing or bad guys, both boys will bark their heads off. |

I am laughing that Maggie Mae is a master of Bang, but not the easier sit. These little ones and their personalities are so much fun. |
Teek does not bark. He was at my house for 5 days and I was taking bets with my kids on if he even knew how to bark. On the 5th day though someone came to the door and he let out a single, very quiet bark. We all stared at each other in disbelief! He has been here 6 weeks now (he is 9 years old) and he barely barks. I love it though, to have a quiet dog like that. When we wants something you know he wants something. He will come up to me and paw the back of my leg to get my attention. He will come in the room and start at me until I get up and follow him. Usually it is to go to our other's dog dish and paw at it to tell me it is empty. I keep telling them that his setter brother only gets fed twice a day because he is a gluten, but Teek doesn't think it is fair that his bowl is always full and that Gatlin's bowl is not. He will scratch at the door to go out, but he will only scratch at it once and walk away so you have to pay attention. He is a good dog though. |

Max is the barker...Sasha is the strong silent type, rarely barks...unless it is 3AM and she hears an imaginary sound then she stands in the middle of the room and barks for 30 minutes....Max likes to get my attention by jumping on me when I am in the recliner, walking onto my chest, sits down with his nose 3 inches from mine and just stares at me without blinking or moving a muscle... |

Our English Setter is not like that. If he is IN any kind of building he has to bark at anyone coming in to protect it! Doesn't matter if we are standing in someone's garage talking to them for a second, that is suddenly his "territory" to protect. He is a bit of a goof ball too. Now I have 2 goof ball boys living with me! |
Miah is the ring leader and the only vocal pup of the three. She sounds the alarm (BARKS) like a lunatic when she needs to go outside to go potty or she hears the mail truck coming around the corner !! Its the most annoying thing ever. Thank goodness for two non-barker pups. They only bark at the mail man and when someone knocks at the door. |
Sophie barks when someone comes to the door, when there are other dogs being walked or deer and/or turkeys in front of the house. Also, daily, without fail, at 10:00 am on the dot if she hasn't had her Kong treat yet . Sophie absolutely knows how to tell time ;) |
Gucci has been barking more lately when he wants something. It's usually, almost always, when his mama isn't here. Today, it was to be let down off of the couch.. Bark, growl, bark, growl... It was so cute, I was slow to respond and even had a little chat with him before letting him down. There we were barking and growling at each other from across the room. A few days ago, he just looked right at me and barked non stop, I got some special food for him, he kept barking, I tried a few more foods/treats, still nothing, he kept barking. I thought he was going senile... then after about a half hour of barking, I found that his water bowl was empty..... duh! LOL In the past, he had always tapped on his bowl if it went dry unexpectedly so this is a bit new for him and I. |
