Not Housebroken Yet? If your dog is older than 6 months & not yet housebroken (defined as more than 1 accident a week), where are you trying to teach your pup to potty? |
I have a doggie door that mine go in and out of. |
outside and the pads. when we're at home we take him outside. but when he's home and we're not he usually will go on the pad. |
Mason Mason is 1yr old and trained KINDA to pee outside and on pee pads when we are not home or at night when we sleep. HOWEVER, Mason has NEVER Pooed outside Ok, one time but that was an accident. Can you believe this????????? |
I have been training Gizmo to potty outside, unless we have to go somewhere and he can't come. Then we leave atleast one pee pad down, sometimes two of them. |
My Tonee is 1yr old and still having more accidents inside than she should. She has been very hard to potty train. We take her outside. We tried over and over to use pads, one day she would go on it and the next day she would go all around it. She is very stuborn though.... |
potty training i am so glad other people are having the same problem i am, i just thought it was me :( my boy Harley is so bad, he goes everywhere, i have to keep him gated in the kitchen, i take him outside at lunch time and when i get home from work, he goes on the pee pads (when he feels like it) i do correct him when i catch him going to the bathroom where he is not allowed. i tried sprays and everything. i guess i just have to keep on my toes with him until he is trained. My little girl Haley was so easy to train, my little baby doll :) |
Funny this has come up. I just asked my vet today about it and he says my 5 month olds should be potty trained. They use the paper most of the time and my boy always goes outside when I take him out. My girl is slower to do that but she will given time. I felt awful until I read this. I am so glad I am not the only one having trouble. Sam and Dees mom. |

I know there are differing opinions on this, but my vet frowned when I told him we were using pee pads and taking her outside as well. He said it's hard to train them to pads and then transition them to go outside exclusively. He suggested crate training; no pads. Because of our schedules we are able to do this without leaving her for extended periods of time. The only time she has run of the house is when we can keep a constant eye on her. She is doing very well, and of course has accidents (or should I say we have the accidents by not watching her close enough), but then she is only 13 weeks old. Just thought I would throw this out for consideration. |
As I mentioned on another thread, yesterday we started "tethering" Missy to US. She goes everywhere I go in the house. I have this little pad on the floor beside me and she lays on it and goes right to sleep. We're trying to stretch out her bladder during the day. She isn't let "loose" on her own anywhere in the house now! The dog trainer said it was a greatttttt idea! Good luck everybody! |
My little Sadie Mae is 2yrs old..I have been using pee pads since I got her. She will use them most of the time but she also uses the rugs, floor, anywhere she wants...and for poop....she has been doing alot better going on the pads but she will still go where she wants. She has even pooped on my bed!! Ya...my husband really liked that one! lol I have talked to alot of yorkie owners and I hate to say this but,,,,,they all say the same thing...Yorkies are very difficult to house train. One yorkie owner's little one is 14 years old and still not house broken...but, I love my little Sadie....I will be getting her a little playmate this year. All I can say is THANK GOD the aren't St. Bernards! |
Luna was pee pad trained for the first 4 months we had her then she had some bad influences and now mostly uses the peepads but sometimes she just squats wherever she wants to i am hoping its just a faze she is 8 months old |
Missy did good yesterday as I "tethered" her to ME. She went 3-4 hours at a time. We're trying hard to "stretch" that bladder so she can keep going longer between "pit stops"! She goes ALL night without going out anymore. She sleeps from about 9-5 am. That's 8 hours - that's pretty darn good for 14 weeks old, so I think. |
Precious will pee on her pads if I take her there or if they are in sight, otherwise it's the floor! She also pops anywhere she wants....lucky for me I find surprises everywhere! Yuckyyy |
