Do You Keep Your Yorkie's Hair Long or Short? I usually let Otis' hair grow out in the wintertime, so he won't get cold easily. But at the first sign of warm weather, the buzzer comes out! I prefer to keep it short. He looks so much cuter with short hair! |
I keep both of my Yorkies hair long. That is why I got these types of dogs in the first place. I don't care for Yorkies with a clip, but that is just my opinion. The hair doesn't make the dog so I guess it is totally up to the owners personal preference, and I prefer the standard, LONG!!! :D |
Biggie Smalls is only 5 months-ish old, so I haven't had a great choice yet. I love the look of a really long-haired Yorkie, but I can't imagine how you keep them clean and groomed with long hair. That is my main pull to the short hair cut....I think they are ridiculously cute either way :) How often do you bathe your puppies? I am a clean freak and I have a hard time not bathing Biggie quite a bit. His skin seems really flaky though, and this concerns me. I'm not sure if it is the brutal Salt Lake City winter we are having, or frequent bathing, or a combo of both. Let me know what you think please. |
Good coats... If your dog can go long and be comfortable, go for it..My dogs seem to be itchy at the beach so i buzzem in the summer and letem grow in the winter...Id love to have a show quality coat on either one...but I dont kid myself...Id rather have a clean shaven happy dog than a long scraggly, itchy one...if your dogs coat is worthy enough of growing out, do it...i would... :) |

Coat Handler Shampoos. I already posted a link in another forum. It's great! Also, be sure to rinse rinse rinse! Also, at 5 months, isn't that about the time Yorkies lose their baby hair and grow in their adult hair??? I know Yorkies don't shed, and I'm not an expert on this, but I do remember the texture of Otis' hair changing around that time. I could be wrong. Any experts on this?? |
I've never heard about puppies loosing their hair in exchange for a different coat. If so, I would like to hear about it though. I currently have a shampoo with oatmeal from a specialty pet shop here. It is organic, and it was $15.00! That is what I know about it :) |
wow, organic shampoo with oatmeal! They really do have some ritzy stuff for our Yorkies! |

bettyanne: So Toto has long hair all over? His face is adorable! I brush Neesa about 20 minutes each day. When she was a baby, she hated it, but now she loves it. Little attention whore! (I don't mean that in a bad way at all!) Always loves to be brushed so she can be pretty. Kinda like her Mommy. :P |

i bathe brownie once a week i use a oatmeal shampoo and conditioner so it dont dry out his skin his hair is getting longer now i usally keep it short it funny though i dont even have to brush him everyday he never get knots his hair is really silky |
I bathe my girls once a week at least, sometimes twice. I brush them with a leave-in conditioner about twice a week (in between shampoos). I use baby shampoo, no tears, comes in all delightful fragrances. I "buzz" them myself, and after a few mistakes, they started coming out pretty good. I keep them rather short, because we live out in the country, and they would get all sorts of things in their hair. |
Hair I dont like yorkies with so long hair so when my baby pebbles is grown with long hair im gunna cut it maybe inbeetween! :) |
Zsa Zsa have short hair . Jade have long hair . |
I"m gonna keep his hair long it"s just starting to grow out . :) |
Well since we are in Fl, I usually give lil bear a short cut by march, this year I waited till I could do both lil bear and moose, they are both short now. Of course lil bear likes her clothes over her hair so she loves the clippers means better chance of wearing an outfit :D I start growing into an inbetween starting in Oct. |
Short. Tried to let it grow once but she matted it all up. No matter how many baths or brushes i couldnt get them out so i had to take her to the groomer. She came home nearly naked. Shes not to enthused about haircuts. Loves the bath though. Typcally she doesnt like scissors, especially around her face she tries to eat them, but shes doing better with that. Now she bites the safety on the clippers when it gets close to her head. I hope that with time shell overcome her fear, when she figures out her mommy would never hurt her. |
I cut it short... otherwise the little boy gets urine all over!!!! Its horrible, I dunno how you guys do it with long hair and a boy who likes to lift his leg. |
Maximus was long for a while...then summer came. We slowly started with short, shorter, to shave...he looks so cute. His hair has grown back pretty quickly, and we'll let it grow out for the winter. |

Prince Henry is only 15 wks but i know what you mean about the urine so wat i did was buzz his belly up to his chest as well as around the end if you know what i mean. It wked perfectly if you are wanted to grow the haie long! |

Not option for me..lol I keep some short and some long.:D |
Long until they obtain their Championship. Once I receive their certificate in the mail....off comes the coat. |
We keep Gypsy's short. I do not have the physical health to comb it out all the time. It gets tangles too much. |
I keep Chloe in between. I like her to have a ponytail but keep her face a bit short and body kind of short. |
I keep them all in between. About 3 in from the floor or so. I'm trying to let Ariel's hair grow out all over. Sebastian keeps his short b/c his urine gets all over?!!! In the back of his legs??? The hair by his elbows??? And still his hair is about an inch long and he manages all this!!! I do let him grow out sometimes then I bathe him every 2-3 days. Then I get my I love seeing him long fix and it all comes off again! LOL!:p |
Winter time or Summer time , I always keep mine with their long coats . |
right now, Maddie is in between--im letting it grow out longer, its just taking alittle while, but in the 4 months ive had her its grown about 2 inches |
