Are boys or girls more "clingy"? I got up a couple hours earlier than normal today and noticed something I'd never paid much attention to before: My two girls -- Jillie and Lucy -- got up with me and followed me around the house. My boy, Eddie, stayed in bed. When I thought about it, I realized that's normal. I don't know if the girls are more curious or insecure or if Eddie is just lazier. But I thought I'd do a poll to see if anyone else has noticed their girls are more clingy than their boys. |
In our house it was the opposite when our Boxer Coco was alive. She would stay in bed and sleep when we would get up. Georgie on the other hand either gets right up or once we go downstairs and get good and comfortable he starts whining to get off the bed (Heaven forbid he uses his stairs:rolleyes:) |
Bogie is my clinger...Both he and Jada have to be in the same room with me, but Bogie has to be right on me, always!! |

I have two boys. They both are little adventurer's ... The only time they REALLY CARE to be right next to me is when they think I'm leaving the house. Then one of them will wait by the door and the other will stay right on my heels. Other than that, they love to be with me but they also like to explore. |
I have 3 boys and 1 girl, all the boys sleep with me in bed, while Lola sleeps on her bed most of the time. And throughout the day, the boys will follow me around the house, while Lola stays in the bedroom. I always thought that since Lola is the oldest and the only girl, she's more independent and likes to claim her space to show dominance over the younger dogs. Never really thought of it as a gender issue, but it's an interesting observation nonetheless. |
Riley is much more clingy then Lily |
Neither Scotty, my first Yorkie, or Jilly, my second, were clingy and Scotty was male, Jilly female. Tibbe on the other hand is quite clingy at times and he's male. So, I can't tell from my experience if it is gender- or personality-related as both my first Yorkies were supremely self-confident, calm and Tibbe came to me with much baggage and many behavior problems, on the nervous side. |
In my experience my boys have always been clingier and my females and those I know seem more independent. In the same breathe I have notice our males prefer women and females prefer men. Scoobers is the only acception but he and Milo, my son have a very unique bond. |
OK! OK! I admit it. Boys are clingier! I never would have guessed at those results. My wife reminded me that Eddie goes to her for nurturing, and she considers him clingier thank Jillie. So I guess some of it depends on who they're clinging to. |
I picked other because I've a got 1 boy only and he is clingy but I have nothing to compare with;) |
I've never had a boy yorkie myself, only girls. Both the female yorkies I've had have been pretty independent & only cuddle on their terms. As this is just like my daughter, I've never thought anything of it. |
We have one of each and they both require lots of attention! They are so spoiled and think they need to be held, played with or just shadow us where ever we go! |
I came to the conclusion that girls are more clingy to guys (human), and boys are more clingy to female (human), that's what happens in our house hold. Lola clings onto all men( my room mate, my dad, my brother, my male friends....), Riley, Oliver and Stewie cling onto me, my mom, and my best friend... |
I wonder if this is sex-specific. If I'd asked a group of guys which of their dogs is more clingy, would they say the females? Hmmm. Just gotta find a Yorkie forum dominated by guys. |

My boys are very clingy with me, mostly because they don't want to miss any opportunities for outings/activity. Teddy is equally clingy with grandpa, but Max is more likely to hang out in bed or watch the door when I am gone. Signed, Christobel (that is iPhone speak for Kristimo) |
Sapphire is more clingy with me... but she also refuses to miss a scrap or a meal. Her hearing is finely attuned to any food wrappings. She comes to me 6 or more times a day to be held or for a belly rub. She doesn't stay for long in my lap, maybe 5-10 minutes. She has man-fear, but is getting better with the DH, prefering to sneak up on him when he's in bed, lol. IDK, my 3 girls and my boy do seek attention from both me and my DH, I can't say equally bc I am home more than DH. Also bc my boy is ancient he has been more contented with napping, but in his younger years I would say showed relatively equal attention to us both. Hard comparison... |
All about how they are raised!! The sex of any dog, especially yorkies, doesn't mean they will be more clingy or not! It's all about how they are raised and treated! :) |

Nice to see another Alaskan! Welcome to YT! |
I can't vote because I only have experience with one....but I can't imagine another dog that clings more than Copper. He needs to be in the same room with me all the time. When I'm gone, hubby says he goes up and sleeps on my side of the bed. He definitely a little love bug! |

Thank you! But yes I have heard males are more clingy and territorial if not neutered..:animal36 |
I have a male and a female. My male is very clingy while my female is pretty independent. She likes me, but she loves her brother. I think if I didn't feed her, she really could live without me. My male however, I would be really concerned about him if I were to ever not be around for some reason... |
Well, my girl Little Genie Girl is so clingy, demanding, she follows me everywhere. She demands to be petted when she wants. When she wakes up she will come and get me up, too. If I didn't love her sooooo much... but she rules the house. Believe it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. |
Max is waaaay more clingier than Snow. They both follow me around, but Max always has to be on me. |
Agree with kazzy Molly will cuddle on her terms only but since having pups is wanting more attention and cuddles bless her she has been through a lot in a short space of time. Merlin has always loved cuddles first to greet you in anything but a controlled way bless him and hates been left alone even for short spells. Milo is really clingy too wanting to be on your lap all the time. So would have to say boys |
Met a couple walking their dogs at an outdoor mall yesterday. The husband was walking two boys and the wife was walking one girl. The girl walked right pass Stewie and myself, while both the 2 boys and Stewie stopped and started to sniff each other out. The owners and I also talked about how boys tend to be more playful and clingy, while girls are just way more aloof. |
I can't speak for boys but my Maddie loves me and has always been clingy to me, even when I first visited her at the breeders. The vet and vet techs also noted that she's very much a daddies girl, as she runs to me and reaches up for my shoulders when they come with needles and such :P |
