Bitsy is beautiful! The tail suits her so well :) |
kind of on the same lines as .. would you marry a man/woman if he/she didn't have short/long hair? there are a lot of us on here who doesn't have the akc standard look. and we love our pets every bit as much as any one who has a 'winner'. everyone has their own look and personality. I personally don't care if my neighbor says "I wouldn't have that dog if you gave it to me, its ugly". (would never happen, by the way). I would just fly back with "I could say the same about your spouse!" |

What all is said and done here, I will be curious to know how many breeders will be changing their practices due to the poll results, whatever they may be in the end. |

Thanks for letting me show off Bitsy's tail :) |
I would have still bought Lola if she had a full tail. In fact, the first question I asked the breeder is..."where is her tail?" I was surprised that a small breed would have it's tail docked. But I like her stump now. |
I think this is a perfectly legitimate poll topic and I don't see why anyone would take offense to it??? I do appreciate all of the replies and I don't expect to change any breeders' minds but just show them that SOME people may actually "PREFER" the long tail and they may think twice about putting a pet quality puppy through the unnecessary trauma, especially those who are underweight at birth or not thriving. I think most reputable breeders already do this but some of the newer breeders may even "start a trend". If we ever develop a "Yorkie PET Standard" to compliment the "Yorkie Show Standard" I am sure it will include a full tail. |

personally, i would not care either way- i actually feel stupid because i hadnt known prior to YT that they even had their tails docked, i had also thought the same as another poster that they were born with them that short b/c they are a small breed. i dont think un-docked tails detracts from their beauty or anything, so it wouldn't weigh heavily on my decision to get any dog. imo. but i am just wondering if anyone knows why they dock tails on any breed? is always purely cosmetic? i thought i had heard that they do it because some dogs [esp. larger breeds] have very strong, powerful tails? i may be way off, but im just wondering...i also dont see how this poll is offensive? it seems pretty harmless to me. alot less controversial than some other threads, anyway. |
Docked tail for me & definitely no dewclaws. |
I have 2 with undocked tails and 1 with a docked tail -- I much prefer the undocked. |
Bitsy Michelle...I lOVE Bitsy's tail...she reminds me Jeannie..(I Dream OF Jeannie) I have never seen a blond tail...wonderful. |
I like Gucci's docked tail. But in the future if I find a Yorkie with an undocked tail i might consider it. I know the standard calls for docked tails, but if I find a yorkie like Bitsy i will get her without hesitation. I love Bitsy and her tail, too adorable. |
I love Tucker's tail docked, but I also love the look of the long tails. I didn't vote because I love it either way. :) |

Yorkshire Terrier Breed standard no where does it say "show" it is the standard plain and simple why must you always say "pet standard or show standard" |
