I send Pao to the vet for it. Never had to have it done until he got an infection of the anal gland and the vet told me that it has to be done every now and then so every time I bring him in to the groomer for a nail cut, I have it done as well. I don't go to the vet for it as they charge like $35..a little too much. The groomer did try to teach me how to do it by myself but he won't let me touch his butt and I am too chicken to do it so...oh well off to the groomer he goes. |
The vet did my Willow's free, it was the first time and I was afraid. It went all over, yucky smelly stuff. |
How did u know they were infected? |
You may not get a reply from any of these members as this thread is 10 years old. My personal experience with impacted anal glands is many many years ago when I had a toy poodle. There is a very foul odor, a sign they needed to be expressed. That poodle needed anal glands expressed once a month to every 6 weeks. I have had 5 yorkies since then, never had anal issues with any of them, and if I did, I would have my vet express them, not my groomer but that's just me. If you have any concerns have your vet check your pup to see if he/she has infected glands, they also do a lot of floor scooting and licking butt area. |
Thank you I have 5 month old puppy and feel a little pertrusion. No scooting but doe’s occasionally tries to lick her bottom. She is due to go in for a rabies shot so will have the vet check her out then. She is so young to be having this kind of problem already. |
