I was wondering what everyone really thought. I think some people don't want to post their opinion because they don't feel like getting into an arguement. Your votes WILL NOT be public!

Yes.

As time wears on, I start to feel more and more sorry for all momma dogs --regardless of their size.

I am sooooo against it :mad: Extra Small dogs have enough to deal with due to their size - I think it's cruel to breed tinies.

I think it is very unsafe for the mom and the puppies. There isnt enough room in the womb for the pups and they are crushed together.

I agree that it is not safe but, if nobody bred them...we wouldn't have them

Hun, That's actually not true. Every litter has a runt. Actually the opposite is true. 2 small parents doesn't = a small puppy. There could always be a throwback. We all love small dogs. But if you want a tiny shouldn't a person just see if someone's litter got lucky and had one instead of someone forcing their 3 lb dog to go through painful c-section after painful c-section?
I started this thread to spread awareness on the subject. I want to let everyone who is looking for a yorkie know to look for a mother 4 lbs+. I would not want my money to finance such a breeding program. If someone says the mother is smaller than that (I have even seen people breed 2 lb dogs) then I suggest finding someone who has the dog's best intrests in mind. Thank you for your post and vote!

Breeders get smaller pups all the time by just having a small stud with a 5 lb or over female.. Its a safe way of producing small pups.

I would love it if people didn't feel this way - we SHOULDN'T have them that tiny - yes small ones can be born in a litter - but to intentionally breed tiny, just to get tiny, is cruel.... and I wish the whole world would realize this -

We probably don't even hear all the horror stories about tiny females being bred because most of those breeders who actually do this know it's WRONG... .

I think that the beauty of the Yorkshire Terrier breed is the fact that they are small, but not as small as Guinea Pigs. The spunkiness and size of a 4-7lb dog is what appeals to me. I am not interested in a dog any smaller. Of course there are going to be puppies who end up being smaller than standard - they are adorable and I love them just the same - the same goes for the ones who end up at 10 or even 15lbs. What I don't agree with is breeding down the breed so that pretty soon, a normal Yorkie is going to be 3lbs or less. I respect breeders who want standard sized dogs and strive to produce them.

I completely agree. There are just too many risks involved with breeding a tiny mom. It is unsafe and anyone who does it isn't truly thinking about the best thing for that poor mama!

I couldn't agree more. The best part of the Yorkie, IMO, is its big dog attitude and scrappy nature. I would always be worried about a tiny not being big and strong enough to live up to its own potential. I keep thinking of one tiny I saw (1 1/2 pound male, the owner said) that just sat and shook all the time.

I have no idea how a tiny little 3lber can birth and raise healthy pups? I have a litter out of a 5.5lbs female and a 3.10oz male she was only in labor 1 hour and delivered a puppy every 8 minutes. WOW i was very lucky but it was soooooooooooooo frighting wondering if she would be ok or have enough milk. She went into labor on day 59
I have given bottles daily just to helo them get enough nutrition and give her boobies a rest. I would be a paranoid mom if i breed a 3lber. I just can't imagine that being healthy. I must admit i have no experence with breeding tinies, so i guess i can only give my best Opinion. I WOULDN'T DO IT WHAT WOULD BE THE REASON TO BREED SO SMALL?
See this girl, she is on my website under RESCUE and i explain how her health was when she came to me from a fate of breeding to early and too small. I JUST DON'T GET IT.

Yes! Its cruel and mean! I think Yorkies are plenty small enough, and you can get them smaller without breeding little tiny dogs. Why on earth do you have to risk the life and health of a tiny little female just to get more money? :mad:
